The new trailer for Ghost Rider (apple.com) has been released. And holy moly does it look pretty f'n sweet.

I'm a Nicholas Cgae fan, so I'm pretty excited about this & on top of that, Sam fuckin' Elliott is the Caretaker.

Though I don't mind Nick Cage and like Sam Elliott, there's very little in that trailer to assuage my fears of another movie written and directed by Mark Steven Johnson. The guy is just plain awful as a director, and even worse as a writer.

Nothing really jumped out and made me go "oh, cool." I do like Nicholas Cage's hairpiece, though.

This movie will have one of the major problems that Daredevil had, I can't take the lead actor seriously as a superhero. Nicholas Cage, along with Ben Affleck, just do not fit the superhero mold. Maybe it's because of their look, or maybe it's because they're already so famous that I can't believe them as already well known characters, I'm not really sure.

I'll probably still go see the movie, and I'll hopefully love the parts where Cage is Ghost Rider, but when he reverts back to just Johnny Blaze, I'll go "UGH, couldnt they have gotten someone else?"

It looks interesting to me, I get what samflange is saying about someone famous playing a superhero, but I'd never lump Cage into the same category as Affleck. Not that I hate Affleck like a lot people, but just because Nicholas Cage has pulled off some great performances before so I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt that I wouldn't give Affleck. It does seem like lesser known guys like Christian Bale, Hugh Jackman, and maybe Brandon Routh do better than ultra famous actors though.

Don't forget David Hasselhoff as Nick Fury, Agent of SHIELD!

Agreed, Quezzy--With the exception of Michael Keaton, most of the memorable "superhero cinema" roles have been with relative unknowns (Christopher Reeve, Jackman, Bill Bixby, etc).

With a famous (or semi-famous) actor, it usually seems to take the audience's focus away from the character and onto the actor.

I thought I had heard May or August 2006 as original release dates for Ghost Rider. Was it pushed back? 2/16/07 is almost exactly four years from the release of Daredevil. Something I'm sure will not be ignored by critics and fanboys.

Well, okay. The CG doesn't look all that cool. The part where he is reaching out, stumbling and being shot by the cops looks STUPID. And wasn't Johnny Blaze younger?

Call me crazy, but I thought it looks pretty good for what it is. A popcorn flick to go see in a drive-in and get really drunk.

...I'm there!

He was younger and didn't have a Southern accent.

I dunno. This could go either way, but its from the people who made Daredevil.

Sony looks like they want another Spider-man with this. Why is he riding up buildings and flying around like Spider-man? When did GR do that?

One instance was when the Fantastic Four disappeared and were temporarily replaced by Ghost Rider, Wolverine, Spider-Man, and the Hulk. I clearly remember a scene of him riding his hog vertically up the side of a building.

I bet there's more, but I was never really into the character beyond the guest-spot appearances he would make in other books.

The only issue I ever bought had Ghost Rider kidnappng Weather Wizard to end a small town's drought. To get the villain, he had to drive up the wall of an asylum. This was the first volume of the title, with the slick blue costume.

Looks good, I have to admit...I can't say I'm excited about it, but I'll probably catch it if the reviews are good.

I liked his jacket in the previews.

Though...I'm not sure I like the casting. I've never really seen Cage in a superhero role, even in my mind.

Thankfully, it never happened... but about 15 years ago, Tim Burton wanted Nic Cage to play Superman.

THAT was gonna suck HUGE!

Yep....and it was originially planned to be filmed in Pittsburgh. Burton walked away from the project when the studio felt his plans for the film were far to expensive for their tastes and wanted him to cut back on the budget.

There were even rumors flying around that Michael Keaton would do a cameo in the film as Batman.

Knowing hardly a thing about comics, and nothing of Ghost Rider, I checked it out on WikiPedia...and I'm still confused.

But it's about an evil-type biker superhero, so I may have to check this out. Hopefully, neither it nor Superman Returns will suck. *crosses fingers*
