One would think it would be fun to play a character on the island, and have the chance to run around exploring the island while avoiding polar bears and the Others. Somehow, I think that a game like that would answer too many questions, and I have a feeling this will wind up another largely disappointing attempt at cross-marketing.

I wouldn't worry too much about spoiling things. Besides if they have the game interact the seasons already passed we all know how things go already right? They may use the time old alternate character scenario. While the show followed this characters point of view, in the game we get to play as an alternate character see whatever they were doing.
Or they could go the opposite and this will be based on things before the survivors arrived and the show started. You'll do things that the survivors interact with when they arrive and we seen on the show and things like that. Maybe the end of the game will have some interaction with the survivors when they first arrive, but usually the prequel thing is easiest thing to do.
But what kind of game will it be? 1st person, 3rd person? A puzzle game where you bascially click on things like CSI? And the odds this game will be a console is remote, I'm thinking it will be a PC game only even though they announced it for consoles as well.

I don't have high hopes for most tv or movie video games, but I'll say one thing this could have for it is that there is so much stuff going on the island that they can reveal a whole lot of stuff exclusively on the video game that they will probably never get to in the tv show.

TV show games suck. Hard. They may have a lot of good story, if written by the actual show writers, and maybe some good voice acting, if done by the show talent, but the budget usually goes to all of that. Once a developer gets his hands on it, the money's all been spent, so you get a game where you shoot people in the head, but just stare back at you.
