Got back about an hour ago from TNA Impact Tapings at Universal Studios. Here's what you can expect over the next two shows, and I apologize if I'm missing something, because I'm totally doing this from memory:

Christian Cage comes right out, and goes into the bleachers in the Impact Zone. He crows a little bit about retaining his title calling it the most satisfying win outside of beating JJ for the title, dedicating it to the Peeps, and then says (essentially), "I'd better get to the ring and talk about what they want me to talk about." Slammiversary is June's PPV, and they're bringing back the King of the Mountain Match, and Christian's unafraid of who TNA brings on. Cue Monty Brown's music, and he comes out of the tunnel. Around the same time, Abyss climbs on stage, Ron "The Truth" Killings climbs into the bleachers on camera side, Raven climbs into the bleachers off camera side (right next to me), only to be followed by Jeff Jarrett and Scott Steiner by the heels' tunnel. JJ mouths off, but to follow up, Sting is seen in the rafters, and he responds. Finally, Larry Zbybsko appears on screen, and announces that there will be qualifying matches totally at random to determine who will be in King of the Mountain. Competitors include Abyss, Rhino (who was on the faces' ramp), Monty Brown, Ron Killings, Raven, JJ, Steiner, and Sting.

There may be a Samoa Joe vignette or interview here, as we saw a brief glimpse of him on screen.

Chris Sabin pinned Petey Williams after a cradle shock to win the World X Cup for Team USA. Excellent match live, and the crowd was totally into it. Afterward, Kevin Nash comes out, beats the crap out of Sabin, and smashes the trophy, doing his "X-Division sucks, I rule, size matters," schpiel. Alex Shelley came out with the rest of Team USA for the save, but Shelley leaves with Nash.

Abyss pinned Rhino in a King of the Mountain qualifying match after Bobby Roode and Scott D'Amore interfered.

Diamonds in the Rough beat AJ Styles/Christopher Daniels. Another fun match. Elix Skipper busts out a walking-the-ropes-into-a-hurricarana. Styles and Daniels now have matching outfits, and both whip off their ringwears' hoods at the same time. Daniels hits the Angel's Wings after AJ hits an insane plancha to go outside the ring, but AMW comes in, hits Daniels with a nightstick, and the Diamonds get the pin.

Pre-recorded Raven promo, talking about being in an institution, and harping on Raven-Jarrett. There's also another promo with Team 3D, blasting the James Gang for their conduct at Sacrifice the night before, and also taking a potshot at WWE, calling extreme to be "the flavor of the month," but stating that the people who can do it are all in TNA.

Scott Steiner came out and started ragging on/beating on Don West. Then Samoa Joe's music hits, he comes out, and he stares down Steiner, and Steiner walks off. Samoa Joe beat Chase Stevens by submission with the Kokina Clutch. I don't recall if this was an X-Division Title Match. Andy Douglas comes out after the match, but Samoa Joe discontinues the beatdown, though he spits at Stevens on the way out of the ring (and farts in his general direction, no doubt). Shane Douglas comes down the faces' ramp, appears to be mouthing some words to the Naturals, while the Naturals look at him. The Impact Zone chants, "Awk-ward si-lence," while this happens.

There may also be something on camera involving the Spanish commentary table with Konnan and Jack Melendez and two other members of LAX with a Mexican or Puerto Rican flag, and a sign in Spanish that translates to "White-Person-Free Zone."

Ron "The Truth" Killings pinned Monty Brown in a King of the Mountain qualifying match. Decent TV match, with plenty of back and forth action. Christian Cage came out for commentary for this match.

Bobby Roode pinned Andy Douglas after hitting the Northern Lariat. Chase Stevens and Rhino come out afterward for the save, and Rhino announces a match at Slammiversary - handicap match of Rhino vs. Bobby Roode and Scott D'Amore.

Team 3D's music plays, but out come the James Gang, with BG James dressed as Brother Ray (with huge umpire padding under his shirt), and Kip James as Brother Devon (complete with bald wig and being made up in black skin paint). I didn't dig the whole blackface thing from Kip James, but BG was funny as hell (even busting out a northeast accent) and Kip nailed, "Oh my brother, testify!!!" If TNA's trying to make these guys the heels, this might not have been the way to do it, because the crowd loved this.

X-Division Four-Way Match - Senshi defeated Shark Boy, Jay Lethal, and Alex Shelley by scoring a pinfall. After the match, Jay Lethal was laid out in the ring, and Kevin Nash came out again to do his schpiel, complete with Alex Shelley now with him with his camera.

We're told that a match is being taped for the TNA Knockouts DVD - Traci vs. Gail Kim. Let me put it like this, they're gonna need to do some serious overdubbing, because the fans hated this match. More than a few flubbed moves, "boring" chants - about the only thing that I enjoyed with this match was Traci's bra peaking out of her camoflauge t-shirt, then toward the end, she rips off the shirt, revealing that, yes, Traci needs two bras to try to hold those guns in place while wrestling. Gail pins Traci after AMW interferes and Gail hits Traci with brass knuckles or AMW's handcuffs.

Taped for Xplosion:
A1 and Eric Young beat Sonjay Dutt and Sharkboy when A1 pinned Sharkboy.
Samoa Joe pinned Diamonds in the Rough's David Young. All three members of Diamonds in the Rough beat on Joe to start, until Joe finally hits the Muscle Buster. Post-match, and probably off the air, Simon Diamond verbally blasts David Young for celebrating when he had Joe prone, rather than pinning Joe. A breakup is teased, but they all make up.

Other odds and ends from the taping:
Dory Funk was in attendance and announced. Also seen on the Impact floor and in the bleachers at various points were Terry Taylor and Jerry Lynn. AMW was seen sitting in a crow's nest watching a match or two during the 5-25 show taping.
The events of Sacrifice, plus tonight's tapings, suggest a face or tweener turn for Samoa Joe. However, his opponents got a lot more offense in than they usually do. TNA best make sure that they don't weaken Joe's appeal, which is that of an ass-kicking monster.
Other likely matches for Slammiversary at this point probably include a rematch for the NWA World Tag Team Titles with AMW vs. Styles/Daniels, and some sort of hardcore match between Team 3D and the James Gang.
Other probable qualifying matches for King of the Mountain for the next taping (5-29, Memorial Day) will probably be Raven vs. Jarrett and Steiner vs. Sting.

And FYI, it is much easier to get seating for an Impact taping than for a PPV. I walked in literally right before the taping started, and still found a seat in the bleachers.

Meltzer was reporting that Joe suffered some kind of a knee injury. Did you see anything to that effect? A serious injury for Joe right now would be, to put it lightly, the worst possible thing to happen to TNA.

Other than Joe being a little tentative on offense, no, I didn't see anything to that effect. Unless Joe blew out his knee at the very end of his second match, if he injured it, I honestly didn't notice. I don't think he'd have hit the muscle buster if his knee was injured.

Hmm, that's kinda true, I can't imagine a Muscle Buster being hit if his knee was blown out. Things will probably clear up on this issue soon enough though. Hopefully Joe's okay. Definitely the last thing TNA needs right now.

For some reason I see Joe facing Steiner at the PPV, with Sting & Jarrett getting the other 2 KOTM slots.

I like the idea of putting Shane Douglas with the Naturals. Turn them heel & give them a new look.

I think Monty Brown is waaaaaaay over rated. I say bury him in the Jarrett angle. The less I see of Monty Brown the better.

Bad idea. He's entertaining to a lot of people and the crowd seems to love him.

Monty JUST got a title shot the ppv before Abyss. It was underwhelming and now there are a lot of other people in line before it's his turn again.

I'm not saying he should be a constant title contender. But he's done nothing since then, and he has no established feud. The heel turn hobbled him as a main-eventer as he couldn't face JJ for the belt while in his stable, and he has yet to recover. He's got a catchphrase (a rarity in TNA), a distinctive style, a solid look, and a move that's both hilarious and impressive.

This is a problem created by the X Division. Unless you are chasing the NWA singles or tag belt, you have no lingering angle. You are in freefall. Unless you can throw a hurracanrana or dive over the ropes, you have no chance in the X Division. It's the drawback to being a power guy in a organization with normal-sized champs and a show-stealing midcard. Monty is the biggest casualty of that.

Hopefully Joe didn't aggravate his already existing knee injury too much at the tapings. If Joe needs to take some time off, he should just take it and not come back before he is able.

Samoa Joe aggravated a knee injury last night at the TNA tapings which could sideline him for two to three weeks. At first, there was fear it could be much worse. He suffered a first degree tear of his PCL and a second degree tear of his MCL, and no ACL damage.

Joe originally hurt his knee in a match with Necro Butcher in ROH. He aggravated it last night in a match against David Young. Joe made it clear backstage he did not blame Young for the injury, stating he twisted it on his own. He was actually apologetic for suffering the injury.

He was treated backstage by TNA's backstage doctor, who is an orthopedic surgeon, then taken to a local emergency room for X-rays and an MRI.

Low Ki, A.J. Styles, Christopher Daniels, and Terry Taylor accompanied Joe to the hospital.

He may wear a knee brace as a precautionary measure when he returns, and within two months his ligaments should be fully healed.

I don't see how this has anything to do with the X Division. The Dudleys and The James Gang get tv time without being in the tag title hunt right now. Raven has an angle going. Joe isn't wrestling X Division matches and he's got something goin on. Jarrett, Sting, and Steiner are having a feud. I don't see where this notion that you have to do backflips to go anywhere comes from. TNA is doing a good job of balancing out X Division matches and other matches, there's more non X Division matches than there are X Division matches on these tapings. The truth is TNA just has a good heavyweight division. Jarrett, Sting, Steiner, Dudleys, AMW, Daniels, AJ, Joe, Christian, Abyss, Rhino. All these guys are either bigger names, better wrestlers, or big investments for the company. And let's not forget they have only 40 minutes to work with. If they had a two hour show and he wasn't getting more airtime it would bother me but right now there's just more important wrestlers.

Given their taping schedule, he's got a couple weeks right off the bat to work with, if the shorter estimates hold out. If he needs extended time off, set up a backstage with Steiner and Jarrett to take out the knee and there's even more heat on his return. I don't know that I'm crazy about Joe vs Sting, but at least they're coming off a PPV with an almost perfect setup if he does need several weeks off.
