(image removed) This photo comes to us courtesy Oliver and it's the something something something Vancouver something. I think I got that right.

If you have something you think might make a good logo of the week, please send us your photos, photoShops, photons, and photox to us via PM, IM, EM, SM, or B - no, on second thought, no.

Right on the money, CRZ!

Sweet! My second "W" to be posted...my first was the old Woolco logo from years back.

I'm not sure how many people here are from the Lower Mainland; but the building that hosts the huge "W" at the top is the former Woolworths building. It used to be the crown jewel of a department store chain that went under in the 80s.

Anyhow, the controversy: this building has stood empty in downtown Vancouver for over a decade, and there were countless fights between city council and poverty activists. City Council wanted to sell it to developers, to create new condos...and the activists wanted it to become social housing, a community centre, everything. Many standoffs and sit-ins have occurred, but in the end, the City got its wish, and well...it's going to be a ritzy, trendsetting building for anyone willing to fork over $300k (canadian) for a one bedroom unit.

Aparently, part and parcel to the deal was that the huge "W" was to be kept at the top.
