I was going to say "all that was in the 70s" but, then again, so was Baretta.

Correct, hence my saying it would have been ALMOST as big as with OJ. OJ is and was the far bigger celebrity.

Perhaps, instead, let's consider (i.e., steal) a hypothetical Jerry Seinfeld murder trial. Seinfeld gets charged with murder, the person who finds the bloody glove in his car is a member of the Nation of Islam, the race card is played, and Jerry's high-powered, over-priced attorneys get him off scot free. Righteousness and indignation soon follow.

The one thing I'm not sure about, is if not for OJ coming first, does the Robert Blake trial get more attention or less attention? Did OJ desensitize everyone to 'celebrity allegations of murder', or did OJ introduce the cable news networks to the notion of 24 hour coverage of what is really an insignificant event, all things considered?

Good questioning.

The way I view it, COURT TV's around the clock coverage of OJ's trial desensitized the public to celebrity murder AND it showed us what a big crock of shit and a waste of time it all was. If you are a celebrity in LA and you do wrong... you get a free pass.

One thing that really pissed me off back during and after the trial were the threats of rioting if OJ was convicted. I remember some of the jury (after the fact) saying that this was one of the things that helped sway the way the voted.

As for Blake, no one threatened to riot for him if he was found guilty. Hmm...

Anyways, who really cares about those things now when there's the whole Pellicano can-o-worms opening before our eyes to get into. That shit's gonna explode any time now.

Not if Jerry hired Jackie Chiles. "Who told you to put the balm on?"

I think the seminal event in the OJ case was the car chase, and everything else followed from that. It's one thing to have a celebrity charged with murder....it's another thing to see him live TV trying to 'escape' down a freeway.
