WWE.com reported (technically, their mobile alert system reported, by I read it on the .com)that ECW has made its first signings, bringing back the following names from the past:

Sabu
Jazz
Axl Rotten
CW Anderson
Balls Mahoney

Sabu, Axl and Balls I'd heard they offered contracts to. CW and Jazz were news to me.

This certainly will be interesting, the only one of those names anyone would buy a ticket to see is Sabu.

Off topic, but does the wwe have a ring tone that goes WOOOOOOOOOOOO! ?

Good to see Jazz on the list...I wish she'd go back to the WWE, though. Her matches with Trish were always top notch.

With Danny Doring signed, and Roadkill likely to move up from OVW, I wonder if they'll be defending the ECW World Tag Team Title, or whether they'll have a tournament to decide new champions.

Obviously, we don't have to ask that question regarding Rhino's ECW World Heavyweight and World Television Titles-- those will both need to be given to someone else at some point. RVD's obviously the heavy favorite to be your next ECW World Heavyweight Champion, but I wonder what the sitch with the TV Title will be.

Remember that Rhino still calls himself the last ECW world and TV champ. I wonder if TNA is getting nervous about his status.
I heard his contract ends july first?

In an interview recently he said he has no real bad feelings towards WWE so it's not like he doesn't wanna go back..
Would be cool. RVD stands there with the belt, bragging for a few weeks when suddenly Rhino gores him through the ring.

As for 'only buying tickets to see Sabu' *shrug* how many of the WWE guys sell tickets? CW, Balls, Axel..those guys might not be the main event but were surely popular in their own ways.

Arn Anderson had a match or two with ECW, didn't he? Perhaps he'll be helping C.W. to get over.

It's too bad Steve Corino won't sign on.

I'm all for putting the TV title on CM Punk. He could be the breakout "new" star of the company. From the reports I've read at various sites, Heyman really digs Punk's work.

Im not too impressed by the signings so far. Sabu is on his last leg and the rest are none too exciting. Dreamer is fat and out of shape. I dont see them moving Tazz out of the booth. Sandman is something to look forward to if he slams beers and smokes like the old days. The rest with the exception of RVD were ECW midcard at best.

I'm not real impressed with the roster either but I'll probably watch it just to see Al Snow and Stevie Richards again and I'm interested in what OVW guys they bring up to be a part of it.

Since I haven't seen him lately, how out of shape is Dreamer? Is it bad enough that there's no way he'd be in reasonable shape by the time the promotion's relaunched full-time? It's not like he was ever all that cut or anything.

I can't see any five-star matches that could come out of it, but I think a Punk/Dreamer feud would be pretty interesting. That's working on the assumption that Dreamer would be an actual performer, which considering the other talent they've brought in seems likely.

As far as Sabu's concerned: if he can stick around long enough to help establish the brand and provide nostalgia pops, he should be fine in the short term. If they've signed him for more than a year (which I'm pretty sure they did), I can't really see him going that long. Then again, I thought he was on his last leg six years ago, and somehow he's still chugging along.

Also, what's PWInsider's source on this? I seem to recall them being inaccurate with stuff like this in the past. I hope at least the inclusion of C.W. Anderson is correct, because I was always sort of a mark for the guy.

Sabu, like several of the other big names, is signed on a one-year rolling contract, ie. at the end of the first year they have the option of picking him up for another year, and so on.

First off, Deputy Marshall is a wise man.

Secondly, I think my hope for this is that the ECW "name" guys give the fed credibility, while they use the younger guys out there, hopefully picking up a lot of the best indies not signed to TNA, in order to make it worth watching. Get the people watching the fed with the old time feuds and names like Sabu, Sandman, Dreamer, Richards, and all them, and then give them guys like Punk, Jack Evans, Bryan Danielson, Colt Cabana, and others who can go the way the guys were going back in 1994 before they got older and broken.

I think the best hope for this is that this isn't going to be a nostalgia tour. The former stars are going to put over the new generation of ECW guys. Probably the only older stars that will last long-term are RVD and Dreamer, the rest will eithe be jobbed out, break down or be released due to their inevitable screw-up.

Y'know, I hope JBL doesn't try to rub any soap on any of those dude's asses in the SD locker room. He'll end up getting cut by someone.

I've read somewhere, maybe gerweck.net, that part of Sabu's role in the new ECW is to be the #2 guy in the promotion. I love all of Sabu's old stuff, he was a reolutionary in so many ways. I don't think he gets enough credit for all his contributions to wrestling. His storyline with RVD was never really resolved, I'd like to see those two work a program together.

I'm not sure about Sandman. His gimmick was awesome, and the crowd eats up all his stuff, no matter how shitty a wrestler is. I know we saw a taste of it, but I would really enjoy seeing an angle involving him and Steve Austin. I know the match has the possibility of being bad, the promo's would be awesome.

I'm glad Masato Tanaka is supposedly going to work for the new ECW, even if it is on a rumored part time basis. His matches with Mike Awesome are some of the greatest I have ever seen. Those of you who are familiar with thier Japan and ECW history know what I mean. Just like RVD and Jerry Lynn has a incredible chemistry, Masato and Awesome had a brutally stiff poetic rythum to thier matches that you had to watch each at least twice.

I think I would like to see Paul Heyman in an on air role, and have it be just as frequent as Mcmahon's. The more Paul E. the better. His promo's are compelling, and he know how to get an angle over.

For the first time in a long time, I can't wait to see what happens next in the ECW storyline. The fan reaction is one of the things I'm mostly looking foward to.

The last PPV I bought was One Night Stand 2005. I'm mostly broke and rarely order a PPV, but if things don't get fucked up storyline-wise, I will definaley pay the $35 bucks to watch this. I've been waiting for something different to come up, seems like for years WWE/F has gone to shit compared to the late 90's.

I wish Corino would sign too.

I was always a fan of Amish Roadkill and I have no idea why. The name? A big man who can move ok? I have no clue at all.

I thought Whipwreck was retired.

They don't have to sign old ECW guys to get me to watch they just need to have the things I want to see.
