Ok, can't wait for the official thread review. Gotta comment now.

Elliott - liked his second song much better, but he did pretty decent overall. He's definatly gotten much more confident, but still looks goofy so he's safe, but probably not much longer.

Paris - she just....doesn't know how to pick songs. Kiss was a joke. Her second song was ok, but kinda boring. She needed to knock it out of the park to survive another week and she didn't.

Chris - His first song was the best performance of the night, and his second wasn't bad but a little screamy and he did almost lose his voice. Don't think he did anything to hurt his chances here, though if I were him I'd go back to lighter stuff at least for next week to be careful with the voice.

Kat - I know you know I don't like her to begin with. That being said I don't feel it's biased to say she wrecked that first song. Her worst performance by a huge margin. The second she did a decent job of, even if I think being on her knees the whole time was a mistake. Just looked goofy. Yeah I know the guys are joking already and loving it, but 3/4 of the voters are supposedly women and I don't see that appealing to them. She did the apology thing after the first, but not as charming as when Pickler did it. She's likely safe, but more because Paris isn't popular than her singing tonight.

Taylor - ok he's gone a bit overboard now. The dancing was great entertainment on the first song, but his singing wasn't the best. His second was better vocally, but kinda boring. I kinda get the feeling that his act is wearing on people a bit, but he's not going anywhere yet. Bad song choices I thought.

Really a terrible night overall with just a few good performances. They seem to do much better when they work with a pro musician than these weeks when they are left on their own with only the Idol people to help.

Again, Paris was on the bottom to start and despite a bad night for others she didn't do near enough to change things. She's gone. If they go with a bottom two type thing I would say perhaps Kat is there with her.

Good thing you started this thread. I have let everyone down AGAIN because of my tomfoolery! I bought an XBOX 360 last night and just couldn't bring myself to recap such a sorry-ass show when there was Ghost Recon to be played.
That being said, I'm a huge Katharine fan (as everyone knows) and she SUCKED last night. I still don't understand the performance on the knees.
This will tell you how bad she was: her "Against All Odds" made me miss Scott Savol.
Paris goes home tonight.

Elliott - okay.....nothing special - he will make money but he won't win the competition

Paris - Kiss ? Damn I'm old. Prince was turning purple while he watched and Mary J. Blige didn't love you either. It's time to go home little girl.

Chris - I hated both songs but Chris sounded good on the first one - just strained & screaming in the 2nd number - he has the fans to pull him through

Kat - That was certainly a different take on "Against All Odds" - not a real good effort....and her voice isn't rich enough to do KT Tunstall but there are other songs of hers that I think would really fit Kat stylistically - it was fun and her fans were probably working overtime last night....and yes, I have McPheever......

Taylor - they talk about taylor being old but I remember when "Play That Funky Music" was released - he really looks like a drunk wedding singer rolling on the floor - and what chart did he look at - I have been scanning the net looking but haven't been able to find any chart that includes "Something" - sounded good.....the Soul Patrol won't let him go home just yet

Nothing tonight really stood and Kat's first song was the worst of the evening with Chris's scream ridden 2nd effort coming in 2nd......still no Kelly Clarkson moments to date

My Bottom 2 - Paris & Kat with Paris going home

America's Bottom 2 - Elliott & Paris with Paris going home

I got home right after Chris' first performance, so I got to see the following:

Katharine messing up the words not once, but TWICE on "Against All Odds", and when she did it the first time in messed her all up. Nice props to the producers and Seacrest for bringing up last week's wradrobe malfunction BEFORE she has to sing, as I'm SURE that did nothing but help. I enjoyed Simon accidentally calling it one of Kat's BEST performances, with everyone getting what he meant to say (that is wasn't) and him jumping in thirty seconds later to clarify that he didn't mean to say that.

Taylor's act to "Play That Funky Music White Boy" was the same ol' bouncy, twitchy Taylor, and I'm afraid that's gotten rather old for me. The background music and vocals were much too loud for this song as well.

I HATE the "songs of the current Billboard chart"-theme, because the songs are so current that they still belong to the artist, and they are all overplayed enough that I don't need to hear them again. Blah.

Elliott sings "I Want to Go Home" as Simon wryly points out how ironic that is for a song choice. I thought it was kind of sweet, but boring. Every time Elliott sings I can't help but think that Chris would take the same song and do it ten times better.

Paris sings a Mary J. Blige song, and it's easy for me to imagine her ripping off five albums of that kind of music and making a ton of money, even if it's not really my bag, baby. She has the best singing voice of anyone left and she's probably, objectively, the best performer (or at least the most at ease and fan-friendly) but she wasn't really that great tonight.

Chris's song choice of "I Dare You" seems to fit him, but he goes into "loud screaming"-mode instead of "intense singing"-mode, and the performance is worse for it. The judges all note that is voice is giving out on him, which he chalks up to having to sing the song five times that day. Dude, if you have to do that, pace yourself better.

Katharine's second performance is (as Wade suggested yesterday - hey you got a COUPLE right) THAT STUPID CHERRY TREE SONG THAT PROVES MY POINT IN HATING THE THEME. O-V-E-R-P-L-A-Y-E-D. (To further prove my point, Mrs. JJD's alarm clock turned on to that song this morning, for the 53rd morning in a row.) OTOH, if she wants to crawl around on the floor for every performance, that is fine with me. Since I went from "I HATE this song" to "that was pretty good, actually" it must have been pretty good, actually.

Taylor's "current" song is..."Someday" by the Beatles?! WTF?! Even Simon is like "WTF?" Boring, and a poor choice for the final song of the evening, even if it WAS well sung. I'm ready for Taylor to GO, and if I hear the words "Soul Patrol" again I might shoot someone. Please end it now.

At this point, there isn't a clear favorite (in my mind, anyway) except MAYBE Chris and Katharine establishing themselves as the best two by a slim margin, so I'm fine with whoever wins and whoever they send home this week. (I hope it's Taylor, though.)

Elliot: Broadway – Tough starting, but once he hit that first rift, he was good. He also did his own rifts, so it was more his own. I liked it. Home - Great vocals. Love this performance much more. Nice and clean. Maybe one of the W’s local to Richmond can confirm this, but I heard that fans of Elliot in the Richmond area were complaining about redial capabilities and there was a big announcement stating that it was finally fixed and they should have no problems voting last night. Is this true? If so, maybe he won’t be in the bottom tonight…

Paris: Kiss - I was worried about this song choice for her, but it wasn’t too bad. I didn’t love it, I didn’t hate it either. Be Without You - A little too grown up for her, but I guess that’s how late 20-something, African American Females feel about Mary J Blige and her love songs. Good performance anyway.

Chris: Renegade - Consistency, consistency, consistency!! He does great performances every time. I Dare You - Well, there went that mantra of “Consistency, consistency, consistency”… It was rough, but each season, someone blows their voice out for this competition and I guess Chris is the one this season.

Katherine: Against All Odds - Not crazy about this. It was flat in many places. The arrangement sucked. Her inner Mariah wasn’t working for her last night. Black Horses and Cherry Trees - Like the original better. I think this was a mite faster than the original and I didn’t like it as much.

**Side Thought** What’s with the more favored Idols getting guest accompaniment? Chris with the mariachis, Taylor had a guitarist as well and now Katherine has box drummers? What about Elliot and Paris getting some help, eh??

Taylor: Play that Funky Music - Taylor Hicks Returns!! And I don’t care anymore. I guess dancing gets you more votes, note Katherine dry humping the floor during that second performance. Someday - Great performance, granted… My only complaint is that one would assume that if you were going to pick a song from this past week’s Billboard listings, they would be the more contemporary and newer songs and not from compilation albums. That’s almost like cheating. But, still a good performance.

Overall… Not a great showing from everyone, but pretty good. Bottom Two, for me were: Katherine and Taylor. But, America doesn’t listen to me, so it’ll be: Elliot and Paris.

Either way, Paris is going home and Elliot will be next Wednesday.

Regarding Taylor's Beatles choice of Something, Seacrest said it is on the Billboard Catalog chart at number 6, and sure enough, there it is. Between Rod Stewart's Great American Songbook and Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon, which has been on that chart for 1,499 weeks.

I am partial to the Tom Jones version. Paris should be going home tonight.

Even though y'all think Taylor should go home, he's been consistently the top vote getter for the last three or four weeks according to dialidol.com. I think he might win.

Taylor has been listed as the top vote getter on dialidol pretty much every single week, but as we learned last week that was not the actual vote. They said on the show Kat and Chris were the top two vote getters so I'm not really sure if Taylor really is getting as much support as dialidol makes us think.

Also, there's been a few weeks where they have Kat lower than she ends up and Elliott higher than he does too. Always consistent it seems in those two and Taylor for some reason. Maybe it's got to do with text voting.

One half hour to go before the results show, and we just finished watching yesterday's show. My thoughts, 5 to 1.

5. Katharine - The usual "Against All Odds" AI Standard. I actually thought the first song was good, but a little too high. The second song was great.

4. Elliott - Good songs, hope the "I want to go home" line haunts him tonight.

3. Chris - OK, except I was thinking McDonald's/Burger King during the second song.

2. Paris - Somehow, she stays on.

1. Taylor - I have never done this to someone in the pimp spot. I would have loved to hear "Afternoon Delight" for the first song. Take you, your weird antics, your head-tipping, gray-haired body off my screen, NOW!!!

Did anyone have a couple of instances of audio problems, with the first being Elliott's intro package for the first song, and while Paris was singing her second song?

Also, did the entire cast have a few before the show. It just looked a little silly to me. Twenty before the results show, and a couple of hours before my thoughts of that.

Dude, kat's first song was good????? Nevermind, I'd just let my bias do the typing.

Anyway, just read that for next week each contestant must sing two Elvis songs. Should be pretty easy for everyone to find stuff that works for their style there I would think.

I wonder if Paris will cry at her own elimination?

Elliott was in the Bottom Two, Paris is out. Pretty much expected, unfortunately, I thought that Taylor was going to go. Not only she was smiling during her "Bad Day" video package (glad they had the normal version back), she was actually dancing to the song a bit.

END SPOILER

Elvis next week. I would not be surprised to see Taylor do "Jailhouse Rock."

As for Katharine's "Against All Odds," I said that it was good. It was not the best, but it was better than some of the other songs I heard last night.

Maybe a good call? Well let's try this song list spoiler thing again and see how badly I fail this time.

Elliott Yamin: "Trouble" and "If I Can Dream"

Chris Daughtry: "A Little Less Conversation" and "Suspicious Minds"

Taylor Hicks: "In the Ghetto" and "Jailhouse Rock"

Katherine McPhee: "Hound Dog/All Shook Up" and "Can't Help Falling in Love"

Ok, so I can't think of the Elliott tunes in my head right now. Maybe if I heard them I would recognize them.

Chris, hmmm I'm not sure about ALLC. Not something I would have pictured him doing, but then again maybe he has some rock band remake in mind.

Taylor....I give up. He's gonna run around like an idiot for Jailhouse Rock and In the Ghetto is not a song I dig at all.

Kat at least picked one peppy song which is what I want from her, but I don't know that she can do well with Can't Help Falling in Love. I like the deep voice it's sung in and she can't do that.
