I've changed jobs twice since this thread, the first time is detailed here. I was Assistant Manager at a Walgreens for 10 months. Ladies and Gentlemen, I hate retail.* I don't recommend Retail anything to anyone that's not willing to work 12 hr days and be on-call 24/7 and work Holidays and deal with hateful customers and... well, you get the idea.

Fortunately, my Alma Mater was advertising for a Database Programmer. I applied and got it. I've been to a 5-day, totally comped conference at Disney World. Next year, the same conference will be in Las Vegas. I sit on my tushy all day, create reports, create Oracle applications, and cruise the-w.com WAAAAAAAY too much, all of which are FUN for me. Best of all: I'm home EVERY weekend, work banker's hours, and have holidays off, AND vacation & sick time. Hoowa! *does a little dance*

Also, we have added a fourth little rinberg to our collection since the original Jobs thread. He is 9 months old and hopefully(!) my youngest child from now on. Mind you, I'm not griping but four seems like plenty.

*-- For those wondering (yes, both of you), there was nothing that was both satisfying and well-paid available locally when I started Retail and I wasn't moving anywhere, so I went with the well-paid part. I took a paycut when I quit for the college, but I'm still paid more than the previous job and much happier.

So, what's your job?

edit: This is job # 6 for me.

Last thread, I was an air & ocean export agent for a small freight forwarder at LAX.

Now I am an air & ocean, import & export agent for a different not-quite-as-small freight forwarder at LAX.

This is job #11 for me over all.

Still doing what I was doing only I got a promotion so I am now management - underwriting & marketing insurance products to mid-sized energy related companies - and now it is in NYC instead of close to home in NJ.

I have also added some non-paying jobs - I am the Chairman of the Board of a Non-Profit Organization, a Trustee at my children's school and a director/secretary for a charitable foundation.

Sorry, but this joke just writes itself: After working at both a library and a retail store at the same time, are you sure you're working at a psychiatric hospital, or are you one of the patients?

As for me, I work for Blockbuster as a lowly peon customer service representative. Though I'm 24 and have had a job continuously for all but about three months since I was 16, this is only my second job overall. My first job was as a service clerk at Marsh Supermarkets.

Though this is the fifth separate store (third for Blockbuster) that I've worked at.

Last time I was in the process of dropping out, hoping to go to Fitchburg State College. Now I have successfully dropped out, and I'm enrolled in Mount Wachusett Community College. I'd like to go to Fitchburg State, but if I should happen to win the lottery and Syracuse becomes an option, I'm there.

AAAHAHAHAHA you're stuck in Storrs. (Unless you're at a different UConn campus.)

Thought we had this thread going in here before, but I guess not. Sports and general news reporter for the weekly linked in my profile. Practically an assistant editor, but seeing as anyone who's held that title has lasted about as long as (stale and moldy analogy warning) the drummer for a certain mockumentary subject, maybe it's best I'm not.

I didn't participate in that old thread for some reason. I don't know why. Maybe I was embarrased. At the time I was working as a clerk at a gas station while going to college, majoring in Computer Science. They noticed my ability with the registers, and computers in general, and ask me if I'd like to help them learn the inventory management system they wanted to set up in the store. Did that (our big breakthrough was figuring out how to sucessfully keep accurate gross profits on scratch-off lottery tickets, given the money the state credited us in guaranteed winnings), and after about a year, we had the system totally up and running, giving us true and accurate numbers every step of the way. I ended up dropping out of school, but so far it's worked out alright, because we decided to make a business, using the inventory management software that we learned, that would do the same thing for other gas stations. So far, we have 5 stores that we oversee, and we hope to eventually strike a deal with a large local franchiser (with about 20 stores nearby), switching over all their stores to our system.

So it's good, using both the accounting I learned in high school, along with my technological expertise. I have no real title, but on surveys I like to put Chief Information Officer (when you're in small business, you can get away with things like that, because it's basically true).

Can't recall if I participated myself in the old thread, but around back then I worked in a warehouse for a big clothing store chain up here (Simons), but since last month I now work for Bell Relay Service, wherein I relay conversations for deaf or hard of hearing people (TTY users).
