Some other things I found while digging around Nintendo's press site:

-The controller shell is apparently ditched. Its replacement (Wii Classic?) looks like a hybrid of a SNES and Dual Shock controller. I'll much prefer this to whatever shell nonsense they were thinking of for the controller.

-There is a new, sidescrolling Paper Mario title coming out for the GameCube later this year. The screenshots are gorgeous-thank goodness for the backwards compatability on Wii, because it looks like a definite pickup.

If it doesn't bother the Brothers Zim (tm), I'll post what I found. In the interest of full disclosure, though, it was on the Nintendo Press site, which is not available to the general public, so while the images are floating around on the Internet, I don't know if any of it has been released to the general public yet.

That games video on wmatastic's link is awesome. Though the graphics indeed aren't a step up (it seems Metroid looks exactly the same), the gameplay is what's important here. I am super stoked.

I dunno about the other games, but Red Steel is a definite step up from the Cube. Mario looked fantastic as well.

I suspect that, when it's all said and done, the graphics are going to be better than everyone thinks they'll be. Sure, they won't match up to the 360 or that $600 beast from Sony, but they'll be lots better than the Cube.

After watching the press conference...I'm less convinced about that controller than ever. If you watch it, check out the guy aiming the bow and arrow. Having to do motions like that repeatedly, while you're getting hit and trying to aim...ugh. Not the best showcase for this "innovative creation."

What's shocking me so far (and I say so far, since there's still plenty of E3 left to go) is that there's been absolutely no mention of the next Super Smash Bros., a title I would have bet the house on as being a sure launch title. Methinks the developers are still working out a few kinks?

Launching Zelda simultaneously for the 'Cube and Wii could mean one of two things. The 'Cube Zelda will either be DOA and gather dust, or gamers rejoice over not having to shell out an immediate $200+ on a new console to get their Zelda fix. I'll go with the latter.

Releasing Zelda for both systems is a pretty great idea. My guess is that Nintendo's marketing push for the Cube version of the game is going to be "yeah, the GC Zelda is good, but look what you can do with the Wii!"

I'm sad that there's no Mario launch title, unless they decide to move up Super Mario Galaxy and make it a launch title. That, I could live with.

Personally, I'd like to see Rygar remade for the Wii. Swinging that sweet grappling hook with the Wiimote? Yeah. That would rule and stuff.

My problem with the twin versions of Zelda is that I'm not sure how that effects my (now year-old) preorder for the GC version. I mean, maybe I would rather have the Wii version, but on the other hand, I already have a GC and no guarantee I'll be able to get a launch Wii. I'm conflicted, and I don't even know if I'd be able to change my preorder. I'll have to look into that.

It depends on who you preordered with. If you went through Gamestop or a major retailer like that, then you'll be able to change it easily. There might be a bit of a price difference, but then again we don't really have any clue how much the individual games are going to cost.

As far as not being able to get a Wii, you can preorder that, too. A buddy of mine who works at Gamestop here in town says that they're going to start taking pre-orders for the Wii next week. I'll be first in line to plunk down my money for that bad boy.

Good advice, but we all know they sell more preorders than they can actually fill, so even with the preorder you're sometimes out in the cold.

Holy shit! SOLID SNAKE is a playable character?! I seriously never thought I'd even come close to hearing that. Now THAT'S out of left field! And it makes this game even more of a must-have than it already is!

I was really happy to read this. Not just because motion-controlled at that pace would be nigh impossible, but also that Nintendo's not going to try to force the option on every title released (meaning more versatility).

I'm going to buy my first console in six years (last one I bought a used N64 off eBay in 2000), and it's going to be a Wii. I haven't wanted a console system this bad since the SNES.

Is it too early to say that Nintendo has stolen E3? Looking at the game lineups for all three companies, I would say Nintendo has got them beat by far.

Plus, if you get a second, check out the hands-on review of Madden 07 for the Wii. That sounds pretty awesome.

Now that E3's essentially over, and we've seen the games, I wonder-does everyone still hate the name?

I think it was smart for Nintendo to release the name a week before E3, so everyone could get their complaints out of their system beforehand. Otherwise they'd be digging themselves out of the PR hole Sony currently finds themselves in.

After unveiling the console itself, the virtual console controller, the light gun shell, the new Zelda, the new Metroid Prime, the new Mario, the new Super Smash Bros. (with SOLID SNAKE~! and PIT~!), the new Duck Hunt, the new Wario Ware, the new Paper Mario, and the gaggle of new DS games, I think I can safely shelve my complaints about the name "Wii" for a while, thank you very much.

You are so right about this. Kid Icarus and Bionic Commando are the first two games I will want to download on the Wii if all this happens. This shows that Miyamoto, or other Nintendo employees can see that Kid Icarus is a cult classic game at this point. I don't even care about a new game, just let me play the old game and try to avoid the pesky Eggplant Wizard again.

To answer Battlezone's question though, yes, the name still sucks. Unlike the people though that wouldn't buy the Gamecube because it was a "purple lunchbox," no name or look will stop me from picking up this system as soon as possible.

Now Sony executive Phil Harrison is recommending people purchase the Wii (thewiire.com), as a second console, of course.

I don't get that though... if you figure people are evenly split between the 360 and the PS3 (and they won't be), but if everyone buys the Wii as a second console, won't the Wii have the largest install base and thus be regarded at the #1 console? I think Sony's officially gone nuts.

In response to the question above - the name is still awful. How could all the interesting stuff they showed NOT be even better with the Revolution name instead?

Mildly impressed with what was shown but still skeptical. After watching the Zelda footage, if I owned a Gamecube and a Wii I'd buy the Gamecube version. It looks more tedious and frustrating to use the remote than it would be to just use a regular controller. I do realize Zelda probably isn't the best game to use for a demonstration of the controller's capabilities, they just used it because everyone loves Zelda or whatever.

Tennis looked kind of fun, but it looks like there's going to be no way in hell I have room for four people to play it.

I don't get the Sony rep's quote regarding buying the Wii. The whole point of Peter Moore mentioning it was to cut into Sony's sales by suggesting you could have two more appealing systems for the price of one lackluster offering. What is Sony trying to prove? You can buy a PS3 and a Wii for the price of two XBox 360s? Wow - game, set, and match.

I don't remember which of the tons of articles that have been linked to in this thread which mentioned it, but one of them said that the Gamecube controllers will be compatible with the Wii for some things. I'm assuming that something like Zelda that will be launched for both titles would be one of these.
