According to this article from the LA Times (ktla.trb.com) watch sales are falling across the country as more & more people are using their cell phones and/or other electronic devices to tell time. So it got an old guy like me wondering, do you wear a watch ?

I have an old gold plated Seiko that I wear to the office and to any event that requires either a suit or a tie. I also have an old beat up Casio for weekends, giving my kids a bath or working in the yard.

Yeah, I wear one. And I always get asked what time it is by others who DON'T where them. And its nothing fancy, just an el cheapo that'll tell the time.

I wear one (that needs a new battery cause it keeps dying) when I go out, but I don't at home.

I think it's probably at least 15 years since I last wore a watch. With pagers and cell phones I just don't need a time piece anymore.
Even back in college and high school I owned a watch or two but kept them in my pocket/bookbag. I just hate the way the plastic and metal feel stuck against my skin.
One of the last watches I had was some dorky digital calculator watch with no wristband. The band broke off bit by bit until there was nothing left but the watch itself.
It's interesting that watch sales are down. I have a friend that wears at least two. It's all about that "ice" and "bling-bling".
On the radio this morning someone mentioned that younguns are wearing giant wristwatches. Anyone know what that's about? I know I'm getting old but I thought that whole Flava Flav thing went out in the early 90s.

I stopped wearing watches early in high school because I hated the noise it'd make when I hit my wrist against a desk or something, I hated the little ring of pale white skin around my wrist and I hated that I always ended up playing with the watch on my wrist when I got bored in class.

A few years ago, the cell phone company I work for offered a handset that had no clock.

I didn't think it would be that big a deal.

It really was that big a deal.

I still wear a watch.

Of course, a couple of companies are working on a cell phone that IS a watch.

Not for a while. If I did, I'd totally get one of those watches that get their power from the movement of your arm though. I think those are cool.

I've developed the distinct ability to tell the EXACT time of day - with a margin of error of a few seconds - by glancing at the sun and determining its precise position in the sky1.

I also feel 100% naked without my watch, even though there's a clock in my dashboard, a clock on my car stereo, I always carry a cell phone, and there are 100 clocks in my house & at work.

I actually check my watch quite often, even minutes after I've just looked. I always have to know what time it is, it's a bit of an obsession.

No, I haven't worn a watch since college.

Wait -- I bought a watch in Disneyland a few years ago, and I wear it when we go back -- you know, it's important to know what time it is (when does the parade start? When do our FastPasses expire?) and there's usually not a clock right there.

But no, not in regular daily life. We have a lot of clocks around the house, though.

(My wife doesn't wear a watch either -- she can't keep analog ones going. If she wears a watch for a day or two -- or even carries it around -- it stops working forever. Seriously, it's like the electromagnetic waves that her brain sends out breaks them. It's pretty weird.)

Getting a real job didn't make me feel grownup.

Moving out of my parents' house didn't make me feel grownup.

Buying and wearing a watch with a metal band, that did it.

It's just a cheap Timex Expedition, but it tells the time and tells the date and I can Indiglo it up in the dark and that's all I need it to do.

Ditto. And, you don't have to ever set the time (for Daylight Savings etcetera). Small convenience, but another reason why I flip open the phone to check the time.

I do not wear a watch. Analog watches always seem to stop keeping correct time after no more than a week of my wearing them. I do own a really awesome Pinky and The Brain pocket watch that I would like to carry but it no longer keeps correct time and I keep forgetting to take it to see if it can be fixed. I use my cellphone for the time, because I hate how ugly most digital watches are.

I do, and I wear it on my right wrist.

This always leads to the assumption that I am left handed, which I am not.

I never understood that and had the same problem. Why the hell would you want to smash that thing into your wrist when you write? I finally said screw it and stopped wearing them.

Always had a goal to get a pocket watch. But I got a cell phone first so that was that.

I'd die if I didn't have a watch on. It's always a cheap piece of crap, so when I break it, I go and get a new one. This one is analog and from (looks) no identifiable manufacturer. I believe it was 4.99 from Wal-Mart
