We (Mrs. Hogie and myself) just got back from seeing the movie. Short story: It's the best videogame-to-movie adaptation ever done, period, hands down, game over. It's also the best horror movie I've ever seen. I have never reacted to a movie this strongly -- at times, I don't know who was squeezing whose hand harder. The entire movie, there's only a single part of one scene I would change. If you like horror movies at all, go see this.

*has millions of Christophe Gans' manbabies*

Now, for the detailed version:

The movie is based mainly off of SH1 and SH3, with parts of SH2 flavored in (mainly the soundtrack and PYRAMID HEAD~!). People who know nothing about the game may be confused at the end, because they don't mention/explain a few key plot background points. (Aside, if anyone does see the movie and would like an explanation, please feel free to let me know.) However, those who know the game background will know exactly what's going on. At the after-movie dinner, we discussed the movie and everything fits.

Again -- EVERYTHING fits. EVERYTHING has a valid explanation, which is something that I can't ever recall happening before. Gans said in interviews that he's toiled over this, and it SHOWS. The minor details for the fans (the scraping noise of Pyramid Head's blade on the ground as he walks, the bugs, the way the worlds are handled, etc.) are spot on to me. The cinematography throughout the movie does a great job of mimicking SH1's fixed cameras and the overall feel of dread that comes with traveling through the game. I thought all the acting was great -- no bad acting jobs in my opinion (granted, I am a fanboi). The only problem I had was the nurses scene -- if/when you see the movie, you'll understand, it doesn't come off as creepy at all, it comes off like a damn Beyonce dance video. But the script adaptation from the game was incredible -- they did change the story up, but it all fits and works fantastically.

I'd love for some horror fans here who know little/nothing about the game to see the movie, to see how y'all take it -- whether it makes sense or not.

There were a number of OMG AWESOME scenes in the movie. The ending is bloody bloody bloody bloody bloody. I won't ruin anything else

In short, if you like horror, GO SEE THIS MOVIE. It's one hell of a ride. You will tense up the next time you hear an air raid siren. Trust me.

They taped a good part of the movie in an abandoned and boarded up shopping mall down the road from my old place in Hamilton, Ontario...they closed off my street for a month to film it. So, naturally, I want to see what it's about.

You know I saw the previews for this and almost made a thread predicting that this be by far the best video to game movie ever.
I'm wondering how many scenes are there from the school because that was by far the freakiest part of the game (possibly any game) and I always wanted to see those visuals on film.

Oh man...this one was really good. Completely horrifying. I would probably agree with everyone who would say that this is the best video game to movie translation ever. Every little thing is done right. I even think I heard Rose mention the classic Konami code when she was memorizing the hospital map.

Man, this movie sure did earn it's R rating, didn't it? The burning scene was the stuff of nightmares.

The school's there, complete with courtyard in the middle. And the huge windtunnel in the back room. And You Know Who is so totally there in the school. Is he ever there . . . . .

The burning scenes (for both Alessa and That Other Person) were horrifying. And the climax -- boy. At least we got to see a few Mortal Kombat fatalities in real life, eh?

Mrs. Hogie and myself are plotting to raise money for the babysitter to see a 2nd viewing. This will be the 2nd time ever I've tried to see a movie again in the theater.

To anyone who's played the 1st Silent Hill game and may still have doubts about the movie: The beginning of the game is pretty much scene-for-scene just like the beginning of the movie, right down to the claustrophobic camera angles, chain link fences, and tight tight dark corners. It's just perfect.
