I'm probably the last person who should be starting a thread here, but I just happened to be at the Ducks game last night - their last regular game of the season against Calgary.

I don't think we saw five straight minutes with both teams full on the court. The Ducks did pull it out in the end, 4 to 3. A combined total 102 minutes in penalties, and I don't know how many fights. 4 second left in the game, and they were still fighting.

Anyway, I'm not the biggest hockey guy in the world, but this game got me pretty interested in the upcoming quarterfinals.
Just thought I plug it...

I may be a homer, but I call it Calgary in 5. The Flames have home-ice advantage, and the physicality advantage of Phaneuf, Regehr, Warrener, Simon, Marchment, McCarty and Yelle against...whoever the Ducks have.

Signs you are a homer: You are convinced your team will win when you can't name a single player on the other team How do you know they aren't better if you don't know who they are?

Well, Ryan Getzlaf played awesomely for the Calgary Hitmen in junior, and the Ducks have a lot of good young players like Corey Perry and the like. They are also bolstered by the Niedermayer Bros. and the surprisingly awesome Teemu Selanne.

The problem is that Calgary plays a tough, physical style of hockey. They MAY get penalized a bit in the early goings, but they'll wear Anaheim's skill guys down.

I'm a Duck fan, and had a great time watching their push to the Stanley Cup in '03. They've been scoring more than I figured, and like Freeway said, their young players have stepped up (Beauchemin, Getzlaf, Kunitz, Perry, etc.) and Selanne has done more than his share this year. Still, they've had trouble with the Flames this year (if memory serves), so it certainly will be a battle.

All bets are off if Jiggy returns to his '03 playoff form, though.

Man, if I ever needed you to still be living in Southern California, it's right now.

I am hoping for at least one massive brawl between these two teams at some point in the series.

The season series was split 2-2.

The Ducks and Flames split the series in regular season. Each team won their home games against the other.

In the last half of the third period, there was almost more fighting than hockey. Worry not - there will be plenty of brawling. These are not two teams that like each other.

Don't underestimate the Ducks. They hung right in there with them, and had no problem mixing it up.

Hey Rob, I still have the condo for another month. PM me if you want to fly down, we'll figure something out.
