On TPIR, this girl gets called to contestant's row, and during the second bid, gets a perfect bid, and pockets $500 plus the prize they bid on. Not bad. She goes up, and is playin the game of the first half that could win her a new car. She has to pick 1 of 6 cards to win, and hits on her first try. Nice. New car, $500, and whatever she won during the bid.
Next she takes on the Showcase Showdown, and hits $1 on a combination of two spins, and pockets another $1000. Didn't get the bonus spin, but is already having what would be considered a pretty good showing. Wins her place in the Showcase, where she ends up being the top winner with the right to bid on the first showcase or pass it on.She passes on a showcase w/ hot tub and telescoping RV for a showcase with a complete bedroom set and 6 wheel ATV. She bids $17000+, and ends up missing the bid by $8. And since she was within $250, ends up winning both showcases.
All in all, with the $500 bonus, $1000 bonus, new car, and all the stuff she won in the showcases...she took in nearly $60,000 worth of cash & prizes...I can't remember anyone ever getting nearly that lucky on that show, it was quite impressive. Promote this thread! | | Whitebacon

That was a rerun. I'd seen that happen several months ago. Cool to watch, but I haven't watched Price in a while now. | KJames199

The one who didn't get to play was quite good-natured about the whole thing. | Matt Tracker

Was that before they started saying "Joe Smith from Somewhere, USA?" I thought they did that way back when. I haven't seen the show in ages. | drjayphd

I thought she was kind of disappointed when they showed her showcase and she saw the big prize was... an ATV. Still an incredible showing. Wonder if anyone else has pulled off anything nearly as impressive. | ManiacalClown

I think I saw one person ever beat the whole game, that's why the final prize is always so impressive. Personally, I'd be happy to walk away with the second prize, because it's usually pretty good too. | StingArmy

Bob started reading the actual retail price slowly, revealing that it was $17,000-something. That usually means the contestant has barely gone over. When he finished it off as $17,508, my jaw just dropped. And stayed there for a couple of minutes.
Has anyone ever seen a better bid?

| #11 Posted on 13.4.06 1414.27 Reposted on: 13.4.13 1415.19 | I've been a fan of TPIR since this came on the air. I recall the showcases used to be worth much lower, it was a very big deal when they exceeded $10,000. The first double winner I can recall seeing was someone missing by $5 - they bid $6995 and the price was $7000. It was so cool to watch their face as Bob read the price slowly, they kept expecting him to say something after thousand, and then see they also won the other showcase as well.
As the prizes got bigger, we used to complain when someone would win a $20,000 showcase and be $150 off - but the rules hadn't changed. I'm glad they changed them, but we still don't see that many $40,000 double showcase winners. I seem to recall hearing several years ago two people were both off by the same about - something like $3200 off, but they awarded both showcases.
This is an impressive win. With a show that's been on as long as this, the law of averages suggests a number of close finishes. | ALL ORIGINAL POSTS IN THIS THREAD ARE NOW AVAILABLE |
