Rey defends against Orton...

Yeah, that reign didn't last long.

It's a standard rematch following a PPV main event. Let's not run to the bomb shelters just yet.

Oh, I know. It just seems that they didn't want Rey to be champion but backed themselves into a corner with the Eddy exploitation. Orton has been positioned as the top guy on SD and I find it very hard to believe they're not going to pull the trigger on the switch.

They're in a dangerous zone with Orton. He's going to turn into Lex Luger if they're not careful. We all predicted that Rey, if he won, wouldn't have a long reign.

But again, I'm speculating.

Congratulations, you were the first guy to make this prediction.

Can I be the first guy to predict Rey comes out of the show still holding the title?

Then we can see which of us is "smarter."

I mean, really? Come on.

Hey you know what would be fun? If we all managed to go until Friday without seeing Smackdown spoilers. I know, I know, dare to dream and all that.

Shouldn't Rey be defending against Angle, though? I thought it was the Champion who had the right of first rematch.

Besides, it was Angle who made Rey tap out in their last one-on-one encounter.

Good point; Angle should have the right of first rematch, and for that matter last night was at least the third time in his career that he's lost a title without being pinned or made to submit. No doubt both of those things will annoy Angle to no end. At the very least he'll probably have even more of a "Me vs. The World" mentality than he already does, and he may even be so frustrated that he'll just start randomly beating the shit out of people and turn heel again.

As for Rey/Orton on SmackDown, while I wouldn't be shocked to see Orton walk out with the title, I think (hope?) that WWE's smart enough to give Rey some time to run with the ball. Having a guy win the World Title at WrestleMania and lose it five days (in reality two days) later is just asking for trouble.

Which, of course, doesn't necessarily mean that WWE wouldn't do it just to piss people off. But I think Rey will retain, only because for some reason I have faith that even WWE isn't that stupid. I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt after a kick-ass WrestleMania 22.

...they'll probably lose the benefit of the doubt sometime around the Great American Bash if not sooner, but...

Guys...we're talking about the WWE here. Who says that this is concrete? I'll wait until they tape Smackdown before anything.

Just remember: they change the Raw previews even on the day of the show.

They're probably saving the Angle rematch for PPV.

See, that's just the thing. The fact that Angle isn't getting the first rematch is what leads me to believe Rey's first defense will be successful. Let's face it, Angle, having lost the title without being pinned is the justified pissed-off face now, and if he loses his rematch, it just nuts all over him. Meanwhile Rey is nutted all over if he doesn't defend his title sucessfully even once. That leaves Orton as the odd man out, but he really isn't harmed by another high-profile job, as it only gives him more boo fodder when he's back in the title picture undeservedly after having failed to defeat the Champion.

In short, I agree with CRZ (heh, and that NEVER happens).

Considering what you pointed out (Angle losing the title without being pinned) and the imminent return of Batista/confrontation at Mania, I suspect they're going to go with a Rey/Angle title feud and have Batista/Orton duke it out to see who becomes the #1 contender for Summerslam.

And, with Batista coming back, I'm convinced that Angle will be a face for the next...oh, 17 hours or so. :)

I agree that they will save Angle/Rey for the next PPV, and Angle will go over to setup a match at 'Slam with Dave. But they can't turn Angle heel again, tweener is as far as he can go now because the fans love him too much, see also HBK, Flair.
