Okay, I've given it two weeks.

You know how people usually like to say stuff like "If you like CSI, you'll love The Evidence?" Well, I like CSI. I can't say I'm feeling any amount of love for The Evidence.

I'm just not feeling it between Rob Estes and Orlando Jones. Are they going to take turns being moody? "Hey, is it my week to be moody or yours?" Maybe I just can't spot good chemistry - or, hey, maybe there's a lack of chemistry!

The gimmick of showing all the evidence at the top of the show and then making quick cuts to it throughout the show isn't working for me either. It ain't CSI. Trying too hard. And so on.

I'm not sure I actually WANT that cop to hook up with Estes - of course, if it'd make him less moody.

Oh and now we get to meet Orlando Jones' ex-con brother. Has he found redemption? Is he hiding something? Do we care?

All this and LANDAU! which I guess means we won't be seeing him play Jack's father on "Without a Trace" for the rest of this season - or should I be assuming this show won't get picked up? I guess I really should have checked the ratings. Oh well.

Hey, this is a crappy review! If it were a better show, maybe I'd do better!

(In reality I just get misty seeing all those San Francisco location shots. This must be why I stopped watching "Monk")

Anybody watch this? Anybody want to sell me on this show - or (God forbid) agree with me?

I must say I agree with you almost completely, Zed.

I think the show's downfall can be traced to this choice, specifically Estes. For all the flak Ted McGinley gets from the "Jump The Shark" types, Estes (imdb.com) is the absolute kiss of death. His emergence on Melrose neatly coincided with the end of its relevance to American pop culture, and he hasn't contributed anything since "Silk Stalkings," which was quintessential guilty pleasure cheese all the way.

Jones, on the other hand, is a great talent in need of a better agent. His acting on the first two epsidoes of "The Evidence" has felt very forced to me so far, as if to say "Notice me!"

While it's just been two weeks, this gimmick feels very tacked on and forced. They've taken two serviceable CSI/Law & Order type of plots, and shoehorned the flashbacks to the evidence into the script.

I have serious doubts about the ability of a show with gimmicks to catch on; I thought "Boomtown" was a tremendous show that, unfortunately, leaned too much on its own gimmick and ultimately led to its demise.

Ultimately, this show has some things working in its favor (Jones, decent scripts thus far, a genre that has shown tremendous legs, and a sweet beginning time slot) and some negatives (Estes). If it finds a balance with the gimmickry and can play to the strengths of (and finds some chemistry in) its leads, the show has a chance.

As long as it comes on after Lost, I'll probably watch until it runs me off.

Edited to add: Ted McGinley, not the awesome John C. McGinley. Sacriledge! (Thanks to AngryJohnny for pointing out my undue besmirching of a great actor)

It's WAAAYYYY too gimmicky. I felt like I was watching a disc for a DVD/board game. The other shortcomings pointed out by both yourself and CRZ don't help, either.

Has there even been a "gimmick" program like this that has actually succeeded in network primetime?

This probably isn't going to help, but usually I have to be drawn to watch a new show by the advertisements...and after seeing the ones for "The Evidence" I wasn't impressed. Rob Estes will always stick in my mind for watching Raw back in the first USA run, and as soon as it was over, you'd usually catch the opening for Silk Stalkings, which was pretty racy for a kid during the opening stages of maturity. But no, haven't watched, and don't have any plans to be TIVOing it anytime soon.

I watched it for the first time last night, and I thought Orlando Jones was decent. Everything else was pretty cliche and just "eh". The impression that I had before I watched it was that if you were maybe a little sharp and paid attention to the show, you'd be able to figure out at the end (before the cops) who was guilty. Perhaps I am sharp like a bowling ball and I fell asleep somewhere, but I didn't get it. In addition, the friggin bat had NOTHING to do with the murder...

What the hell is wrong with you people that you are debating whether or not a show starring Orlando (Fucking!) Jones is good or not?

Doesn't the fact that he's in it automatically put it into the 'Horrible Idea For A Show' category.

...I can't believe someone up there said he was a 'great talent'. Did you NOT see Evolution or any of those idiotic 7UP commercials?

I liked seeing buddy cops instead of more mumbling moody detectives. But that's the only appeal the show had for me.

Jack's dad died back in episode 80 (aired 12/8/05). So Mr Landau's looking for work. He's just a kid, you know.

I thought it was ok. I gave it two as well. My son and I were debating the evidence. We had the ice in the gloves and the bet really early. I like Orlando as the hound. I don't know. There's nothing else on

It's ok...
