Guru, I don't dispute the thinking behind TNA's hiring of the guy. But it's faulty thinking. Can you sit there with a straight face and tell that Steiner's, for any name recognition he might have over people like Joe, would actively encourage people to watch the show?

And Tribal, c'mon. Steiner's run wasn't doomed by his booking as a face. He looked fragile and weak in the ring, he blew up almost instantaneously, he could barely lift HHH. How does that translate into "unstoppable heel"?

I think it really doesn't matter either way. As long as TNA is known as "TNA" people won't ever get it and it will always stay in the muck.

To say TNA to most people is to say T-n-A, which stands for we know what (I don't want to be rude). No one could ever take seriously a product with such a stupid name (WWF sounded professional, and WWE at the very least is passable.).

I honestly think that until TNA becomes the full-fledged NWA again (name and all) and utilizes the 50,000 NWA mini indy feds they have and organize them into old-style NWA territories, TNA will never get past that big hump it needs to be competitive.

Either that, or until they really just gamble and get the chance to put their hour or so of programming up against an hour of RAW.

And, as a sidenote in keeping in line with the title of the thread, is it just me, or does it seem kind of counter-productive/character to have guys whose whole deal is supposed to be about the perfection of their body . . . and yet have very visible tattoos like Masters has on his arm and Steiner has emblazoned on his chest?

Well he made me tune in and sit through that horrendous Christian/Monty match just so I didn't miss his appearance. So yes, I can say with a straight face that there's every chance he could encourage people to watch the shows.

Jarrett having over half the roster in his stable is more of a problem than Steiner. If Jarrett was only sporting say ... three guys and Gail Kim, having Steiner show up might actually mean a little more.

It is probably just you. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that someone like Steiner who has a huge tattoo in a prominent place looks even MORE like they are committed to shaping their body/look a certain way.

I don't see how. You'd think narcissistic characters would be anal about any damage or mark placed on their body.

This is especially contradictory when the tattoos like he and Masters have are big crosses/Christian symbols. It seems somewhat counter character to be a backstabbing, angry heel but then have something on your person that screams "PROPS TO JESUS; PRINCE OF PEACE, BRAH!"

So, here we have a guy with a gigantic cross on his chest (Steiner) trying to break the back/neck of a guy whose similar Christian faith is known widely by fans and is on some level a part of his character.

I dunno, doesn't seem to make a whole lot of match sense to me . . .

Unless their narcissism makes them believe that the tattoos make them even MORE good looking. Like when vain teenage girls get fake tanned to the point where they look orange. They still think they look hot.

That's part of what I'm saying. You don't put him in the ring until the final match. Before that, he can kill people backstage/during promos all he wants at his own pace. Without taking any damage back, he doesn't have to worry about any bumps. If his match at the PPV was him as a heel instead of a face, then the burden of moving quickly/the big comeback wouldn't be on him. A heel can plod around the ring for most of the match, but the face is the one that has to work hard to get the crowd fired up.

We'll have to see how TNA uses him though. In any case, if someone's channel surfing and they see Steiner on TV, they might stop to see what's going on just out of curiousity. They won't do that if they turn on what looks like their local indy fed (TNA's production/wrestler attire problems have been talked about to death before) unless they're just starved for wrestling. And if that was the case, then Steiner would have served that purpose too. As long as they get rid of him when they've gotten the most out of what's left of his name, then it's a good hire. If in a year's time he's holding onto the belt before giving it back to Jarrett....

I actually liked the feud with Test. Entertaining mid-card crap.

Has it been posted how much Steiner is making? I mean, let's not assume they're breaking the bank for the guy.

The problem with bringing him in is that he makes everyone look tiny by comparison. I mean, Jarret and Shelley look like little brothers hanging out.

That said, he's a recognizable name to people who flip around. If he's not put over the young stars, it'll be fine.

If they book Steiner right in the ring it'll work. Come in for short flurries, suplex, belly to belly, Steinerline, tag out.

Team Jarret is ridiculously crowded. It's like 20 people deep. I think on some level they book it for comedic value. Those backstage shots of everyone hanging out in that little room watching the Shelley cam is just ridiculous. Half the team doesn't even have speaking parts. It's very latter-day NWO when Hogan would be cutting promos and you'd see Hennig and Hall just having a conversation.

He was better as just Scott Steiner.

Not Big Poppa Pump. His lack of mobility and his borderline 'roid rage isn't good.
