I'm finding it hard to believe that MNM won't be on the Wrestlemania card, and will at best make the pre-game Heat. These guys have been the brightest young stars of the year for WWE --- multi-time tag champs, are both great workers, have a good gimmick and a great manager, can talk (from what we've been in backstage segments, at least) and have been upper-card staples on Smackdown basically since the day they debuted.

What gives? WWE can't even manage a thrown-together match against (I dunno) Burchill and Tatanka, or the Mexicools?

Probably for the same reason there is no cruiserweight match on the card.

According to Smackdown's "preview" page, Teddy might be adding matches to Wrestlemania next week, so you just may get your throw-away tag match. MNM has no feud, so at this point I'd rather they not be on the card than have them take up space just to get them on and crowd other matches (like the MITB) match. You KNOW they won't be taking time away from the Triple H/Undertaker matches, so it'll be coming from the matches we want to see. Wrestlemania is PERFECT for MNM's over-the-top entrance, but at this point I think they've missed their chance at making anything of a Wrestlemania appearance. Missed opportunity for the WWE for sure.

I'd imagine (or like to imagine) that there would have been a cruiser-weight title match had Helms not broken his nose. He was a fairly significant part of Smackdown before the injury, but he's probably still 3-4 weeks away at best.

I was a big proponent of 'future stars come from tag teams', but look at who the big stars were during the most recent 'salad days'. Rock, Austin, damn I'm drunk...I'm pretty sure none of them came up through the tag ranks. HHH, Angle, Foley, UT

Even though Austin did have an immediate run as TV Champ in WCW, it was his time teaming with Pillman in the Hollywood Blondes that really helped him develop.

InsidePulse keeps listing a "tentitive" MNM/London & Kendrick/Mexicools/Kash & Noble tag match for WM, which I would actually be looking forward to more than anything else already on the card. MNM did dump London & Kendrick out of the battle royal last night, maybe that'll be enough to kick start their on-and-off Velocity-ish feud and get it onto WM22.

I'd quite like to see that match, but in terms of easy-to-book-towards, easy-to-pop-the-crowd combos, I would think that MNM Vs. Tatanka/Burchill would be a good way forward. Tatanka's had issues with MNM for the past month or so, culminating in them eliminating him in the Battle Royal this past week(side note: why the FUCK wasn't that fourth-last man slot given to Burchill?!). Melina issues her WrestleMania open challenge this week and Tatanka answers, saying he's found a man who's "just as proud of his roots as he is" to help him finally take the tag titles. In swings Burchill, and presto! A nice, heated midcad-filler to add to the PPV.

Plus, it gets Pirate Paul a big payday, and at the risk of torpedoing my geek cred I have to admit that I'm becoming quite the mark for him. :)

It would simply just be a throwaway match like the tag team title matches at WM XX. Nothing special at all.

Got to make room for Boogey Man vs. Booker T and Vince McMahon strutting his roided stuff.

It really doesn't much change that the tag team divisions on both shows are in the toilet and have been rotting for a long time now.

I think MNM definitley deserves to be on the card. But, with 11 matches on the show already, I'd be more shocked if they got on then if they are left off.

It seems like every year, one guy who should really be on the card is not. In 2003, it was Rob Van Dam. In 2004, it was Matt Hardy. In 2005, it was Booker T. In 2006, I'm thinking it will be MNM.

I was actually thinking something similar as I drove to work this morning, but it was actually more like "Whatever happened to the Mexicools?" At one point, they were the #1 tag contenders, and then after that, had a match that was supposed to be for the title with MNM, but by that time Batista and Mysterio were the tag champs, and the feud kind of fizzled. I've always thought the Mexicools had potential, and they'd be a great feud for MNM, if for nothing else than the obvious class differences (MNM the snooty celebs, Mexicools the working class heroes).

While it will suck if MNM is left off the card, there is no one they could wrestle that would not seem thrown together at the last minute. It is a sad state of affairs in the tag ranks (on both shows).

It's more a sad state of affairs in the booking than in the tag ranks themselves. The E seems convinced that every angle should an ME-style draw or throaway crap, so a team like MNM get bounced around by the big guys occasionally whilst their viable rivals-teams like Spanky/Kendrick, the Mexicools, the Gymini, the FBI, even makeshift duos like Noble/Kash-are kept to Velocity or used solely for squashin'. Hell, you can lather, rinse, repeat when it comes to the cruiserweight division-they've got the exact same problem, with nothing but lack of brainpower preventing them from reaching a solution.

It's a shame, because MNM has "superstar" written all over them. They've got something for everyone - the cool gimmick which can work as heel or face, the hot valet w/ the fantastic ring entrance, the guys are attractive, and they can work. With the right booking, this team can be a legitimate draw for the company - a team in the vein of the Hardyz, Dudleyz, Edge & Christian.

That the WWE has no clue what to do with these guys is ridiculous.

Well, MNM is being booked fine (aside from being squashed by main eventers in angle advancement handicap matches.) It's that they haven't built up a program for them in months.
They just get tons of screen time and tag with Mark Henry in main events.

About them not being on Mania. Well, we'll see. I'm sure they'll have screen time in some way, shape or form.

Agreed. They've even got the perfect foils for recreating the Hardyz/Dudleys/Blondes dynamic in the Mexicools and Spanky/London. You put those three teams in a ladder match for the belts at the next SmackDown PPV, you get all six over-well, more over in the case of MNM-in only twenty minutes' of air-time.

Well, Melina will, at least. If they get on the show, it's because of her.

Something to consider here is time. WMXX was alloted 5 hours and featured 12 matches plus 1 HOF segment. WM21 only had 8 matches, plus 1 Piper's Pit, 1 Hogan segment and 1 HOF segment for 11 total "segments" to fill 4 hours. For WM22, we're already looking at 11 matches, plus *something* with the HOF, to fill only 4 hours. The RAW tag title match, the pillow fight, Trish-Mickie and Boogey T *should* all be 5 minute specials (or 30 seconds, in the case of the pillow fight), so I guess you could fit another 5 minute match there.

Makes you wonder what they'll open with if there isn't a SD tag title match.

I thought they were just about the hottest things going on that show until they were castrated by losing the straps to Animal and Heidenreich (!) That really killed their momentum. While they are in high profile matches on SD (like last week's battle royal) it rarely revolves around the belts.

Its sad to see that a freaking lingerie pillow fight makes it on the show, and two of the best workers on the Smackdown roster do not. As Lance Storm says, its a "travesty".

The night before Mania, Lance Storm is going to compete in a match that will probably put everything on the card to shame or a joke in comparison.
