Game on for Online "Jeopardy!" tests Tue Mar 21, 2006 9:37 PM ET

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - What is the online contestant test, Alex? The answer is, the innovative method "Jeopardy!" has devised for potential participants to take the first step toward appearing on the long-running game show.
Fans will be able to take the 50-question preliminary general knowledge exam online from March 28-30 at http://www.jeopardy.com/onlinetest. Each day is designated for a specific time zone and will get different questions from the other two.
"Jeopardy!" executive producer Harry Friedman said the contestant coordinators evaluate more than 25,000 hopefuls every year. About 400 of those get to sign their name on the podium's screen as an actual contestant.
This new secure online testing method will reach out far beyond the cities his team can visit in person. It also will be more convenient and less intimidating, Friedman said.
"Our online testing process allows our many viewers the opportunity to take the test from their very own computer, at home, at the office -- virtually anywhere," he said.
Cheating is theoretically possible, but it won't do much good. Those who pass the online test and are selected for an interview will have to travel to one of the in-person auditions and pass another test with proctors watching over them.
Fans must preregister and supply basic information, after which they receive a specific time during which they must log in and answer the questions.
Really now, PC only? Are they serious? Well, there goes MY shot. (Maybe I'll try with the Mac laptop anyway.)

I'm exceptionally excited. I've tried out in the past (at WPVI studios in Philly, about 10 years ago for the Teen Tournament). I failed miserably (apparently). I passed the written test for Millionaire a few years back for the college shows, too, but I guess they didn't find my personality engaging enough.

Entertainment Weekly and VH1 are teaming up to put on a "World Series of Pop Culture." They've been doing auditions around the country, and they're going to have a team composed of internet qualifiers. I'll be taking this test, because I can't really take the other one, now can I?

Originally posted by Roy.I dunno if anybody else took the test, but I thought it was very tough. I'm great on Jeopardy, but the old cliche about everybody doing well against the TV apparently is right.
I'm in the same boat. That test kicked. My. Ass. I'm always so good playing at home, too.

I'll be taking it tomorrow (since I'm in the Central), but I had already taken a sample test they included with a CD-ROM version of the game once. It is hard. 50 questions, each on a different subject.

I passed the test a few years ago at a Chicago audition stop, but I never got the call to go out to California. Since then I haven't been able to audition again. I'm hoping this time for better luck. I want to try and top Teapot :)

Is it 40? I know when I took the paper test the line was 35. I feel like I'm in that nebulous area right around the line. I hit a groove where I know I got 12 in a row, but there were a couple I just tanked on. I fear if its 40 I came up short, and might have just gotten over if its 35.
