They just used the match wioth Benoit as an excuse to get them off TV. And to keep up his keyfabe reputation of "The Canadian Crippler" | Matt Tracker

Which is why the word injured is in quotation marks. He's becoming the alibi for surgeries. I'm asking how many people for whom he's provided this out. | Jim Smith

Trouble is, you never see the announcers talk about Benoit's victim list. By the time JBL and Helms have healed nobody will ever mention the cause of those injuries again. I'd all but forgotten about him "crippling" Mark Henry, which is crazy considering that--in kayfabe--Henry was MIA for nearly two years.
This is not to say they aren't pushing Benoit enough, but it's weird how they don't take advantage of this. They can remember Ric Flair's back injury 20 years ago and Undertaker's Wrestlemania streak, but not this? Heck, if they're so interested in sticking it to TNA, have Cole and Tazz regale Smackdown viewers with the story of how Benoit got his nickname at Sabu's expense.

I remember in the spring of 2000 they had Benoit slam a car door on Tazz's arm to explain his downtime. When Tazz came back he pulled a swerve by turning heel and going out of his way to not attack Benoit, so nothing really came of it. | sentonBOMB

However, a lot of these guys are guys they hope to build up again. They don't necessarily want to remind the viewers that Mark Henry, a guy who seems to be remotely related to the title picture at the moment, was put out of action by the current US champion. | JoshMann

Off the top of my head, Edge also had a shoulder injury, and Benoit sent him off to the DL. In that case, though, I think they acknowledged that there was a pre-existing injury that Edge was trying to work through, and that Benoit aggravated to the point that he couldn't. I'm sure there are more, but I can't think of any off-hand. | sentonBOMB

I'm sure that someone remembers that it happened, and I'm sure they will bring it up later on if it's needed. That's what the WWE uses backstory for: not for continuity, but to add fuel to angles when it's convenient. | SEADAWG

They mentioned Helms' injury prior to the match with Benoit, because they talked about how awful it'd be to take the Crossface on an already broken nose. Which it probably is. Ouch! | Cerebus
