Two NBC specials were part of the agreement in the WWE-USA deal right? So maybe NBC just can't get out of this part of the contract. At this point I'll be shocked if there's a third, though.
Perhaps this time they'll learn their lesson and run SNME in SNL's timeslot. | Tribal Prophet

Not that the XFL would have survived to the next year anyways, but Lorne Michaels certainly put one of the last nails in it's coffin. I can't imagine how the talks would go between NBC and Michaels if they tried to get him to give up one of his slots.

Do you really think he cares that much over a timeslot during SNL's summer rerun season? I mean, I cant imagine it would be that big of a deal, or that he would huge a grudge from the XFL stuff. | Tribal Prophet

These guys aren't exactly known for letting things go, sometimes with grudges that started with "he was rude to me" lasting years. Michaels didn't want the McMahon run XFL as a lead-in before, and with the ratings this SNME one got when it was promo'd more than Wrestlemania itself, there's no way he can want it anywhere around "his" timeslot let alone taking it for even a week and he's a big wheel at the NBC cracker factory.

He only lost it because it was the highly-promoted Jennifer Lopez edition of SNL (it may have been during sweeps--I can't remember now), and being delayed by the XFL hurt what was expected to be a monster rating. Pre-empting SNL for SNME on a night when SNL would have been a rerun anyway is a whole other matter. I'm sure, though, that the arrangements for SNME specifically avoid conflicts with special first-run episodes of SNL, because of the XFL/J-Lo incident.
But even if Lorne still has it out for Vince, it may not matter. He can gripe about it all he wants, but he's not in charge of NBC; the execs who want to avoid another 3.2 overnight rating are.

To pull out an oldie but a goodie, Lorne Michaels needs to drink a big, frosty glass of "Shut The Hell Up."
Not only is SNL unfunny (with the exception of WU), but half the time, it airs a re-run.
I'd take SNME over it anyday over watching some idiot promote their movie that came out 6 months ago. | numbskull

| #9 Posted on 21.3.06 1017.31 Reposted on: 21.3.13 1017.45 | From what Meltzer is reporting it appears NBC wanted to give them a try in Prime time instead of the originally planned SNL slot so the next one could go either way. Pwinsider had a link to some ratings stuff that said even though SNME finished last in the overnights the 18-49 audience was actually up over the previous weeks on NBC. Pair that with the NCAA tournament doing a much higher rating than anything ever does on Saturday Night and it might be possible to do a much higher rating the second time around in prime time. Also, The NBC/Universal deal that brought RAW to USA guarantees WWE 2 SNME per year for each of the 3 years covered by th contract. I think WWE & NBC both hope for more but the ratings for the 2nd one better be way up if that is going to happen. | ALL ORIGINAL POSTS IN THIS THREAD ARE NOW AVAILABLE |
