I wasn't disappointed. Great "big show" feel from the opening interviews (a nice nod to the "old school" SNME openings), good looking set, no real dead spots for the whole two hours and although I don't know if they'll get a lot of additional buys for WrestleMania out of it, I'm just as sure they won't get anyone to change their mind and NOT buy WrestleMania from it.

No problems with not having the Booker/Boogeyman match since it was pretty much a given they were going to have it for Mania anyway. Entertaining enough way of writing it out tonight, mostly because Booker and Sharmell once again carried the entire angle on their over the top (in a good way) performances.

Austin was awesome - JBL was awesome - surprisingly, that still managed to add up to pretty awesome

The street fight's ending may have been a little obvious in retrospect, but I can't quite figure what else they could have done (without Marty Jannetty's involvement).

I hope "Heist" gets 10 million extra viewers so NBC is tricked into running more of these in the future. (That *has* to be the reason they plugged that incessantly, right?)

If I'd actually taken notes, I'd probably have something to say about EVERY match, but it was a good show for sitting back, having some corned beef & cabbage and (not green) beer and enjoying the WWE.

But that's just my two bit opinion.

Yours?

After, what, seven months, they pull the trigger on the Trish crush angle. I also think Victoria got a nose job.

The opening match was hot but short, and I liked the "finisher buffet" ending.

There was no way for the Shawn/Shane match to go anywhere but down after the ladder stunt. That was madness. I so love that Shane is willing to die becuase he wrestles so rarely. The ending all but promises Bret will be involved at WM.

Taker/Henry was blah, and I don't see how this makes me want to see the match.

JBL was hot tonight, and it looks like Austin's gotten back in shape.

I loved the entrance ramp and the inclusion of the monitor floor last seen at WM XX.

The set reminded me of WMXX, which I guess I wasn't alone in thinking....The opening contest was all right, but was missing something. I did like Rey pulling Orton off Cena after Triple H put him on top for the pin....I liked when JR called Trips "The Monarch of the Mat," a play on his "King of Kings" nickname....

I thought JBL was pro-America, to a fault? Why is he bashing it now?....Despite the drinking challenge going to a no contest, I thought it was done well, with JBL trying to sneakily beat Stone Cold....Can we add Trish/Mickie to the WM card?....Solid "big bump" in the final match of the night. Good match overall, for what it's worth. Solid show- nothing was filler, and a good job promoting WM.

It was happy to FINALLY see Mickie turn on Trish, although it could have been done a bit better. The thing is, I think Trish is more of a heel than Mickie is. I don't wanna boo Mickie James at all really. She just wanted to be loved, is that so wrong?

But the opening was awesome aside reusing old PPV theme songs. I was really hoping for Animotion's "Obsession" but I wasn't surprised to not hear it.

And Shane can wrestle matches better than half the roster at this point. Maybe its because he only wrestles once every year or so, which makes his matches have a big time feel. But, he can bump with the best of them. The suplex/table spot was really well done.

The one thing I didn't like was all the bleeps during Austin/JBL's segment. I mean, is "ass" and "sumbitch" really that bad to say on primetime these days?

Overall though, a kickass 2 hour show. Can't really complain about much of anything.

The opening promos were GREAT, as it brought back fond memories of the original SNMEs.

Tonight's show felt so much different from most WWE shows, and that's a great thing. Even the small stuff like the white ropes and red posts go a long way in making the show seem special.

The writing of the show was WWE at it's best. Good variety, great pacing, and everything made sense. Even though there wasn't that one blow-away match (although Shawn/Shane was very, very good), the show was still excellent because everything seemed to go down perfectly.

I was annoyed by the Montreal ending at first, but after thinking about it for a while, it does fit in perfectly with the storyline of Vince being obsessed with Montreal and Shawn wanting him to move on, so I guess it was fine here.

Honestly, I had more fun watching this show than I have watching ANY show (outside of ECW ONS) in years. It's funny, because when WWE wants to put on a kick-ass show, they do it better than any other promotion. Unfortunatley, 9 times out of 10, we get the same cookie-cutter shows we're used to. Tonight, however, was different.

Great, great show.

It sorta felt like the old shows, which was nice.

JBL seemed like he was really on tonight and alomst got Austin to laugh a couple of times. Austin looked really fit as well.

Shane McMahon garbage wrestles and bumps well for a 40 year old nonwrestler even if he is a spot stealer.

The show could have used more Smackdown, and I kind of like JR as the voice of the joint shows.

I agree 100% - I was hoping for "Obsession", but I knew they weren't going to use it. I was also hoping for the interviews to be with the blue screen where they have a logo behind them. Neat, nonetheless.

Got to see this card live at Cobo tonight. It started at 6:30 and half the crowd wasn't even let in fast enough to get to their seats on time. They had Big Show beating Carlito in a dark match before the taping (which Lillian said was "live").

The set was damn cool looking, and they played SEVERAL WM 22 promos and now I'm actually getting Big Time stuck in my head. Also, after the whole Mark Henry-Taker brawl, it looked as though Henry got into an altercation with a fan. Security simply escorted the fan away from Henry, but Henry was PISSED.

I'd be interested to hear how JR, King and Taz were on commentary. People were damn excited to see JR back.

I'm glad to see the show was good on TV, because it wasn't nearly as good live. I didn't expect it to be, but stuff like having Edge come out twice because something got botched (using the old "I'M GOING TO GO UP AND COME BACK OUT AND YOU'D BETTER GIVE ME THE RESPECT I DESERVE" thing), relentless and repetitive Wrestlemania 22 promos, and playing JBLs music for 5 minutes before he even comes out really sucks the life out of the crowd.

Insane reaction for the suplex off the ladder. Scary stuff.

Was sitting next to some guy who constantly made really annoying "look how knowledgeable I am" comments like "did Vince blade?" and "that was a crazy bump." Ugh.

...that same guy also insisted that Papa Shango had been brought back twice as Papa Shango.

Running joke in my section about management telling Cena "Don't worry, they were saying Boo-urns."

JBL got a sizeable positive reaction for ripping on Detroit's crappy mayor. I'm not a fan of either Austin or JBL but the segment wasn't bad.

Old-style opening promos were great. I heard multiple people bitching about Boogeyman not appearing live.

Annoyingly, the broadcast was preempted in Detroit by a Pistons game. I'll have to aquire the broadcast by other means I guess.

I'm gonna have to go ahead and disagree with KaneRobot on this one. I too was at the show live, and I loved every minute of it. I think I had a better time at this show than I did at Survivor Series in November.

The superplex off the ladder through the tables was freakin' nuts, though, wasn't it?

So...updated (final?) WrestleMania card:

WWE Championship: John Cena [c] vs. Triple H
World Championship: Kurt Angle [c] vs. Rey Mysterio vs. Randy Orton
Shawn Michaels vs. Vince McMahon
United States Championship: Chris Benoit [c] vs. John Layfield
World Tag Team Championship: Big Show & Kane [c] vs. Chris Masters & Carlito
Women's Championship: Trish Stratus [c] vs. Mickie James (Almost definately to be announced on RAW)
Money In The Bank II: Rob Van Dam vs. Shelton Benjamin vs. Finlay vs. Ric Flair vs. Matt Hardy vs. TBA (Lashley)
Hardcore Match: Edge vs. Mick Foley
Casket Match: The Undertaker vs. Mark Henry
The Boogeyman vs. Booker T

I have to admit, that other than an MNM or Helms title defense, there's not much else they CAN put on the card.

I totally agree. Although it was completely obvious to the whole world that Mickie was going to turn on Trish, the way they did it tonite was really really weak.

The two-on-three match was nice and chaotic, wasn't it?

You could tell by Steve Austin and JBL's expressions that they were having the time of their lives during that beer-drinking contest segment. Steve, in particular, looked like he thought JBL was funnier than hell-- between the Brokeback Mountain thing and "you must've been talking to my wife." Especially on the second joke, it was clear to me that Stone Cold was doing all he could to stop from breaking character and busting out laughing. Good to see him enjoying himself like that!

Also, it's nice to see that they didn't completely get rid of the WrestleMania 20-style set design. ;)

After this show, Im psyched to see WrestleMania.

For the set design.

This show was enjoyable overall. My biggest gripe is actually with Jim Ross. He was flat out pissing me off during the opening match. The way he was throwing out new nicknames for HHH stunk of somebody who knows he wont be on TV again for a while and who was trying to leave his own personal mark on the promotion of the product before he disappeared. The Monarch of the Mat? The Wrestling Aristocrat? I gagged.

The Edge-Foley feud confuses and angers me. A lot of the hype for this match involves Foleys poor WM record and legacy and Edges perfect WM record. So what would it say about Edge if he lost to Foley? Then again, what would it say about Edge if he won? Edge has nothing to gain and a lot to lose. All for a feud that ideally shouldnt have happened in the first place.

Booker T and Sharmell were the MVPs of the show (who didnt wrestle).

The ladder superplex was sick.

When HBK went out to throw Vince into the ring, I got this thought about what would happen if Vince fucked up his knee again, as he did at the 05 Rumble. Im intrigued about the facial reactions Vince has been giving lately to Shanes sadistic attitude.

I want to be excited for WM. But Im not. Watching this show helped a bit, given its the first time they devoted a whole two hour show to hyping WM. Seeing the match graphics got me a little psyched. Each match has the potential to be enjoyable, except for the casket match. The show, overall, might be great. Im just not excited about the feuds going in (especially Edge-Foley as mentioned).

"Edge is trying to end Mic Foley's career!"

Yeah, after months of (very good) buildup and with Mickie being such a Deranged Woman and all, I was hoping that when she finally snapped, it would be a much more violent and memorable angle. But her doing the Trish Point on the Statusfaction was cool.

I was immediately thinking along the same lines when that happened, especially after seeing what appeared to be Vince's one knee catching the ring apron when he was thrown in. And when Vince stayed on the mat for a bit, I was really pondering if he was just begging HBK not to kill him, or it was the '05 Rumble all over again and he couldn't get up.

I counted 6 commericals plus the two add reads. (And I was actually a million times more intrigued by Teachers, so I'm insane.)

The main kinda annoyed me, because we went from two guys crashing thru tables to somehow being in a front facelock after a break, and then Shane stopped selling it after a minute. But it's a Shane match and so I got what I should expect.

The opener was a bad idea concieved and a bad idea in execution, though the match itself was fine. I wonder if the tide has been turned and they're setting up a Cena heel turn with stuff like putting him in against Rey where's sure to be booed; they've down about a 135 (not quite a 180) from overprotecting him to overexposing him.

By all rights, back to back 20 minute non-match encounters in the ring should really drag a show to a screeching stop, but I think both of them were really excellent and memorable in differing ways.

I liked the video packages they did thru the night, explaining to non-regulars what was going on quickly. They could get people up to speed quick.

Having King only talk during RAW stuff and Tazz only talk thru SD! makes sense, but it seemed weird when one would unexplainably disappear for a few segments. Tazz and JR were the less pair as you'd expect, but JR was working hard trying to make it work. I thought his "You may like John Cena or you may hate him, but you have to admit he's a warrior" line was pretty good.

I got the distinct impression that JR was deliberately avoiding the "King of Kings" moniker. I'm not familiar with his personal beliefs but he might find that sort of thing blasphemous. (Then again Austin 3:16 never bothered him.)

As an aside, it doesn't bother me that HHH is swiping Jesus Christ's gimmick, but it does bother me that he doesn't seem to know it. He uses "King of Kings" like it's no different from "creme de la creme"--some generic term for the best of the best. I keep waiting for him to acknowledge the religious significance--compare himself to a god, for example--and he never does. It's as if he just thought it up one day and had no idea someone else used it before him.

Yeah, but whose fault is that? In Edge's mind it's all Foley's fault, so all he has left to gain is revenge. As poor a job as they've done selling Edge vs. Foley, I can't deny that Mick is the only compelling opponent available, given that Edge didn't get the main event.

I havent watched a whole hour of any raw or smackdown in a few months. My gf used to be into it when the rock still had big side burns. Being bored and intrigued, we watched most of it (flipped off for the UT/Henry segment).

We thought Booker/Boogeyman was hilarious. What is the deal with his teeth? Its like why is this so funny?, but it is.

Austin/Bradshaw (gf: THATS JUSTIN 'HAWK' BRADSHAW?) was .95 on the Rock n Sock scale of pointless mic time.

OVERALL though, wheres the beef? There was only one match. (plus one short ladies match and one sub-sabu caliber spot fest)
