I'm acknowledging that I'm jumping on the movie bandwagon so here we go:

Which scenes scared you the most while watching them? I mean heart pounding in your throat, ready to pee your pants and scream kind of scary. I'm mentally scarred forever from watching Friday the 13th Part 2 as an impressionable 12 year old but there was no one scene that stands out as scary as I was watching it.

I'm looking for scenes that affected you as you watched them and had you shaking.

#3. Ringu. Probably cliche but the end of Ringu scared the crap out of me.

#2. Ju-On. Half this movie had my heart racing. This is the only movie I ever had to stop and restart multiple times because I was scared. And I'm a grown man.

#1. Training Day. Obviously not a horror movie, but I have never been more terrified while watching anything than I was when Ethan Hawke was sitting at the kitchen table after Denzel left him with his friends. I was on the edge of my couch, heart pounding in my ears, because I knew something bad was about to happen to this guy. All I could think of was how real it was and how terrifying it would really be to be trapped in a house full of mexican gangbangers who are ready to kill you.

Samara coming out of the TV at the end of The Ring scared the shit out of me (so did the quick shot of the girl in the closet).

Pretty much the entirety of The Exorcist.

The end of Friday the 13th, when Jason jumps out of the water to get Alice.

Kids, I am damn near 50 years old and only one movie has really scared me - and it scared me so bad that it still affects me today. Birds. Saw the movie, I am sure, on TV, probably Black and white when I was a little kid, 8 or 10 maybe.

Those evil, retributive birds scared me so bad that today, I am afraid of birds. If one comes near me, I am jumpy. No way I can be in a house where a bird is - even one in a cage makes me nervous. When birds are flying around in Home Depot, I am crazy. Three or four years ago, I was in one of those places and a bird flew, probably 30 feet over my head. But I heard the winds, ducked my head and tossed my back completely out. Had to go to the hospital. Try explaining that.

If your therapy is watch it again - nah, I have tried it. Scares the crap right out of me. The whole damn thing.

I am with you, AWArulz. That movie scared the piss out of me. When Tippi Hedren is the phone booth and the birds just keep coming at the glass over and over. It's so damn intense.

I also had hard time when I first saw "To Kill a Mockingbird" when I was about 7. I was staying with my aunt for the night. Who the hell lets a 7 year old stay up and watch "To Kill a Mockingbird" anyway? Maybe she wanted me to see Gregory Peck, since that's who my mom named me after?

I'm VERY SORRY I just laughed out loud about this. I'm afraid of spiders like that, but for some reason, some guy in Home Depot throwing his back out because a bird flew by is kinda funny. If it helps you feel better, I once knocked myself out when a spider jumped at me.

-----

This scene no longer has this effect on me, but back when I was a wee lad and I was allowed to pick out movies to rent from Pharmor back when they were $.69 rentals, I discovered a WONDERFUL film called THE GATES OF HELL.

About 20 minutes into the movie, this woman starts puking up her intestinal tract.

Watching this for only 30 seconds or so, I clicked off the TV, ran to the bathroom and puked. I tried NOT to throw up, because I was afraid MY INTESTINES were gonna come out, like in the movie.

That night, I had a nightmare that the evil priest was after me, from the movie, and trying to make me puke my intestines out.

I never made it through Jaws the first time, and I still have never seen the whole thing in one sitting. We own the DVD, but it's really just for my wife. I refuse to watch it.

Same thing when the scene of Cujo comes on where the mother and child are trapped in the car with the big, rabid, snarling dog outside barking at them.

This may be odd, but here's mine. In 2001: A Space Odyssey when the 2 astronauts are in one of the pods trying to talk where HAL can't hear them, you see the shot of HAL's red light and then see from that perspective that he's watching the guys' lips move and knows they're talking about shutting him down. There was always something very sinister and creepy to me about the HAL 9000 and the idea of AI that would turn against man. Of course, he later kills 4 people on the ship so...yeah. Still, the red light is eerie.

Exorcist 3. The long, single-take corridor scene.

About halfway through the movie, we see a nurse's station at a hospital where evil abounds. It's the dead of night. Utterly quiet. The hall lights are dimmed. The viewer is about 30 feet away from the nurses as they attend to paperwork and walk through an intersection hallway. Nothing is happening, and that can mean something's gonna happen.

One of the nurses begins to check the patients' rooms, and she slowly makes her way up the hallway toward us. Again, this is a single LONG take, possible three minutes of nothing happening. By this time, the scene is determined to wait you out, make you get somewhat bored with the suspense and drop your shields. You watch the nurse go from room to room. She enters a room, gets out of our sight, and comes back to the hallway. She closes the door behind her, not looking at the doorknob. She's acting on habit.

As soon as she lets go and moves toward the opposite room, the door flies open, a figure completely clad in a bedsheet runs toward her, arms extended. The camera launches toward it, and the silent scene explodes with a shriek and large, seismic bass rumble.

It's startling and upsetting. You know it's coming, you know it takes a while, you can't hold the tense muscles for long, you relax, and then the scene nails you.

Outstanding thrills.

I've seen Jaws about 15 times, and even though I know its coming, the scene where the guys rotted decayed head appears out of that hole in the boat.

Also a scene that makes me jump out of my chair everytime is from the very first Alien movie when the guy is crawling around in the ships duct-work, and the aliens head suddenly pops out screaming in front of him.

The Ring (pretty much the entire movie but especially when she crawls out of the tv)

I heard a lot about this movie, but had no idea what it was about. It wasn't out yet here in Holland.
I was on the plane back from a trip to the USA and watched it.
Scared the shit out of me.
Then I got pissed off at the "Hollywood ending" thinking this shouldn't be the way to end such a great movie.
Then the tv scene happened..I almost leaped out of my chair..

The reason I 'love' this movie (and most of the followups) is because you don't really know what actually happens.
I had the same thing with the original Blair Witch.
I wasn't so much scared by that one, but just had a lot of weird thoughts on what actualy took place.

Any eye related scenes. I can generally endure a standard amount of gore, but when it gets to eye mutilation I just get uncomfortable. To this day, I still can't get myself to watch the scene in Terminator when Arnold cuts out his eye, revealing the red one underneath. Or the scene in Kill Bill when the Bride squishes Elle Driver's remaining eye.

Now, I wouldn't say Jaws scared me, but there were scenes that startled me. I remember watching it at a theater in Minneapolis at a Legion convention sitting next to a girl I thought I kid of liked with a cup (a big cup) of soda sitting between my legs when that Damn shark came up while the sherrif was chumming? (you know: we're gonna need a bigger boat"). My legs came together and that soda pop became old faithful. I don't think I ever had a chance with Patty after that, but it worked out well.

The end of Carrie where she reaches out of the grave. I have seen it about 20 times and it still scares me. Possibly because the music fakes you out a couple of times.

The end of Saw just really perturbed me. I remember just watching the man walk out and close the door and my heart pounding as my mind raced with thoughts of how somebody I don't know was going to torture the shit out of me.

Not a horror movie, and maybe scary isn't even the correct word but the last 25 - 30 minutes of "Full Metal Jacket Jacket". Wow. And I also was little, like AWA, and although it looks cheesy now, The Birds scared the crap out of me.

Yes. Without a doubt. That part freaks me out more than the twins or the REDRUM part.

Also, the scene in Event Horizon where they look at the recorded video footage from the previous crew. I will not watch that EVER again.

And any vampire movie. It just makes my skin crawl when a vampire bites someone. Hell, even the Space Vampire episode of Buck Rogers scares the bejeezus out of me - and he never bites anyone.

Rosemary's Baby scares me. The whole movie. There's just this general creepiness about it, especially the (wonderful) Ruth Gordon and the "What did you do to his eyes?", "He has his father's eyes" parts. God, I love that movie.
