Yeah, I'm late on this bit...

Viacom owns Comedy Central. Viacom also owns Paramount, which is putting out MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: III.

As bad as all this is with Tom Cruise being able to 'censure' SOUTH PARK, this is also great for the show as well. Think about it, sure they might not be allowed to rerun the episode, but it'll be on the boxed set. This will boost sales for that set, lining Parker and Stone's pockets with more money. This will also bring in viewers to the new season, which is also welcome.

Viacom, not wanting to lose money, which is what it all boils down to, will end up making even more money from bowing down to Tom Cruise's cult's wishes, while probably meking some board room deal with the SOUTH PARK creators, making everyone happy and getting more money.

Here's a strage article about the controversy (foxnews.com)

It's basically a gossip piece on Fox News, so who knows if it's true.

I can tell you that Hayes is in no position to have quit anything. Contrary to news reports, the great writer, singer and musician suffered a stroke on Jan. 17. At the time it was said that he was hospitalized and suffering from exhaustion.

    .......

Friends in Memphis tell me that Hayes did not issue any statements on his own about South Park. They are mystified.

Isaacs been concentrating on his recuperation for the last two and a half, three months, a close friend told me.

Hayes did not suffer paralysis, but the mild stroke may have affected his speech and his memory. Hes been having home therapy since it happened.

That certainly begs the question of who issued the statement that Hayes was quitting "South Park" now because it mocked Scientology four months ago. If it wasnt Hayes, then who would have done such a thing?

Interesting, for sure, but how true? I'd hate to think Trey and Matt are burying him while he's out of it and unaware of what's going on.

EDIT: I repeat myself too much. I repeat myself too much.

Oh MAN and I'd just seen him on "Conan" in December and he was AWWWWWWWWWWWWWESOME - that's a real shame. I hope he makes it.

Also, this story is getting weirder and weirder.

I'm starting to think maybe this IS all a work.

But if it isn't, I'd kill to have John Lyden, Eric Idle, or someone equally inappropriate be the new voice of Chef.

I just saw a promo for the premiere during The Daily Show. In the clip (which appears new, and not recycled from a past episode), the boys are playing in one of their living rooms and the doorbell rings. They open the door to see Chef, who says, "Hello there children!"...and it's clearly Isaac Hayes.

Looks like they're going the route of re-edited Chef dialogue snippets.

On SouthParkStudios.com at http://www.southparkstudios.com/news/index.php?sid=62d3e445009cb3820e8bc1be61e139a2 Matt and Trey put up a five second quicktime teaser of the new episode, and to me and my girlfriend, it sounds like Chef's dialog is spliced from two different recordings/episodes

What the hell is wrong with me? I better not have been suckered cause that memorial service almost brought a freakin' tear to my eye, especially in light of the gossip piece.

The splicing was beautiful. The jokes were hilarious, but only the first time around (but that's not the point of the episode).

This is what the Super Adventure Club actually believes.

[Darth Vader voice] "Suck my balls. My chocolate salted balls."

But, seriously-- it was almost painful watching Chef's death scene. It was damn sure unsettling.

It gave me a little smile when I saw Elton John at the funeral......and then I got a little choked up when they showed Terrence & Philip also at the funeral crying.

But I was kinda disturbed by the part where Chef decides to turn around and stay with the child molesting group on his own unbrainwashed freewill. It comes off as Chef really liked molesting young boys all along.

Looking what they did with Chef's character, it sure seems like Matt and Trey are still quite bitter about Hayes walking out on them. I really loved the "turning to the darkside" and "betrayal" message they clearly sent out aimed at Hayes with their Darth Vader ending.

Well, it certainly seems as though more than just Darth Chef is going to be a recurring character. They took their shots and it'll be interesting to see where this ends up. If Hayes ever does come back, they've got the whole final battle from Return of the Jedi to fall back on.

And ekedolphin called it. That was really unsettling to see the death scene. The eulogy was also very well done.

Haven't seen it confirmed yet, but someone over at AICN said that "Darth Chef" was voiced by Peter Serafinowicz (aka the voice of Darth Maul, aka Duane in "Spaced", aka Pete in "Shaun of the Dead"), which, if true, makes this already awesome episode about 1000 times more awesome.

You could tell Matt and Trey were just sad about Isaac leaving. All their anger was directed squarely at that "fruity little club".

I loved last night's episode and thought the whole splicing was hilarious. I also loved the pot shots at Scientology. All in all, a satisfying end to Chef. This gives South park a chance to bring in a new secondary character.

I am not sure but did I see Big Gay Al at the funeral?

What got me was the scene on the bridge where Stan, in quite possibly the saddest tone that Parker OR Stone have ever adopted, said "But...Chef...we love you...". That was absolutely heartbreaking.

Then, of course, they go and make me horribly uncomfortable with his death scene.

I got the impression he was still brainwashed, especially since he had been in the "deprivation chamber" for awhile before the kids went down to get him out.

YouTube.com has most of the episode but its broken up in different videos. Watch them has:

south park chef returns part1
south park chef returns ii
south park chef returns III
south park chef returns back IV
(there is some of the episode missing between these two videos)
South Park - R.I.P. Chef

"South Park" has got to be one of the easiest series to download episodes from on the Internet. Not that I'd ever encourage people to do that, of course.
