Yeah, I'm shocked, too.

ESPN.com - NFL - Cards agree to deal with free-agent RB James

The deal is for 4 years, $30 million with up to $11.5 million in bonuses.

I know the Colts weren't treating him well, but seriously, the CARDINALS?! Kiss any chance of ever seeing a Super Bowl goodbye, Edge. (Well, for the next four years, anyway.)

I beg to differ. If the line can protect Kurt Warner, the Cards will have an explosive offense.

They were saying on ESPN that the Cards had the best throwing numbers in the NFL last year (although I dont quite believe that) so if they did, and James can be anywhere near as productive, they will be doing really well.

I don't think the line is the question so much as Kurt Warner. His window, if it's not already closed, is closing very quickly. The Cardinals need a ton of defensive help right away if they want to get to the Super Bowl with him under center; if they're taking a slower approach, it may be time to bite the bullet and turn the reigns over to Josh McCown.

Which would be all well and good, but McCown's a free agent now.

Same could be said for the Colts.

This would seem to eliminate any draft question for Arizona, who are going to be looking for defense, defense and more defense.

Interesting move for the Cards, and I have enough respect for Denny Green that I think he still has a plan, but it's taking time to shake off the detrius that is basically the entire Arizona team history.

As far as the passing offense, yes it was very dynamic last year with Fitzgerald over 100 catches and BOldin (despite missing 2 games) at 97-98 catches. Of course, the argument can be made they had to pass that much because their running game sucked.... (71 yards per game, not over 100 in a single game (for the ENTIRE team, not just one back), until we played Indy's 2nd string the last game of the season).

Yes, Warner is brittle, although he did look pretty good when he wasn't on his back. I would prefer they went with McCown, but Denny Green didn't feel comfortable with him, and I get this impression he needs to win THIS year (especially with the new stadium).

Hey - at worst James can go to a Super Bowl with the Cards, we host it in 2 years!

On Topic: Hey, this is the best move the Cards have made since picking up Emmitt Smith.

Seriously, what were they thinking? Wasn't there a chance they could talk Thurman Thomas or OJ Anderson out of retirement?

Hey, at least they are trying, which is more than I can say for San Diego.

Philip Rivers? The same Philip Rivers who has been lighting it up the past couple of years? Words fail me. Oh well, one playoff appearance per decade is good, isn't it?

You're taking that the wrong way. What I mean is that Edge has way too much tread left on him to fit the Cardinals strategy.

And San Diego signed -- a safety. And we have AJ mother-fuckin' Feely. You heard me.

Sad thing is I bet this time next year we're looking back at more Feely starts than Brees OR Culpepper.

Ah, gotcha. I misunderstood. However, I'll take that bet because I'm certain that, despite his public pronouncements about not interfering with the coaching staff, AJ has made it very clear to Marty that Rivers will be the starter and will remain the starter until the Bolts are out of playoff contention, in 2009. The only way we see another starter at QB is if Rivers gets his arm ripped off at the shoulder and is then clubbed to death by an irate fan. Brees will end up starting something like 14 games for the Saints and will get them closer to the playoffs than Rivers will San Diego.
