One of the all-time greats has passed.

Don Knotts, TV's Lovable Nerd, Dies at 81 - Yahoo! News

Knotts died Friday night of pulmonary and respiratory complications at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Beverly Hills, said Paul Ward, a spokesman for the cable network TV Land, which airs "The Andy Griffith Show," and another Knotts hit, "Three's Company."

Unspecified health problems had forced him to cancel an appearance in his native Morgantown in August 2005.

If ever there was a death that called for a National Day of Mourning, this is it. Why must the good die so young? TVLand better do a nice 120 hour Don Knotts Marathon.

One of my favorites of all time ... Just thinking of his facial expressions alone make me smile.

The Apple Dumpling Gang was one of my favorite flicks when I was a kid. Give the guy credit, it's not like he was taking it easy as he was growing older.

RIP Mr. Furley

I really feel that he was the reason that Three's Company lasted as long as it did, even as it plodded along after the loss of the Ropers and Chrissy. The Roper's were great, but Mr. Furley's outfits and reactions to (basically the same) outrageous situations every week really saved the show. His nerd who thought he was macho character (and facial expressions) stole scenes.

I was obsessed with The Incredible Mr. Limpet when I was a kid. I watched that movie so much (and it always seemed to be on TV!).

While by no means an afficionado of his work, I've always been a Don Knotts fan. If you've never seen The Ghost and Mr. Chicken, you owe it to yourself to check it out.

Wow, according to this article at E! Online (eonline.com), his good friend and co-star Andy Griffith was at his side.

That just sorta gets me ...
