The trade goes like this: Stevie Franchise to the Knicks, and Penny goes back to Orlando along with Trevor Ariza.

Between Franchise and Starbury, over/under on number of games before either a) one trashes the other in the press for ballhogging or b) one crowns the other with a blunt heavy object on the court in order to wrest the ball away: 6.5.

I'll say this about Isiah: at least it's fun to see what he's going to do next.

It's not just Francis and Marbury. You could put together a lineup like

- Francis
- Marbury
- Crawford
- Rose
- Curry

I think Isiah figures if he gathers this many black holes in one place, it'll mutate the laws of gravity and logic, and somehow the Knicks will both wins games they haven't yet played and win games they've already lost. Basketball, who needs basketball when you've got astrophysics.

Once Orlando get's Grant Hill's $16 million dollar albatross off of their cap after the '06-'07 season, they'll be in great salary cap position. As for the Knickerbockers, they now are in salary cap hell through the end of this decade. Madison Square Garden can now officially be referred to as the World's Most Famous Toxic Waste Dump, as the Knicks have gone from a position where they could eliminate $40-$45 million to at least get closer to the cap with the elimination of Allan Houston and the expiring contracts of Hardaway and Antonio Davis and somehow parleyed it into worse contracts for additional years. If his fellow executives get to vote for the award, Isiah Thomas is a sure bet to win executive of the year this season.

The Knicks are starting to resemble the NY Rangers of old as the place that aging overpaid former all stars go to cash their paychecks and die. I bet Spike Lee is thrilled to be paying top $$ for his courtside seats now......

Ok, Isiah Thomas has to be some sort of double agent for the Pacers or some other team, right? He can't possibly make this many horrible moves in a row. I wouldn't trust him to run a lemonade stand.

Poor Stevie Franchise, he went from being a somebody with the Rockets to losing with the Magic, to a Knick. Note to Isiah, when Elgin Baylor and the Clippers front office starts laughing at you, you know you're in a lot of trouble.

Another interesting subplot-- Penny Hardaway returns to the Magic, and to the same coach that he forced the Magic to get rid of all those years ago: Brian Hill.

And, Penny and Shaq are back in the same state and the same division.

The look on LB's face says it all. Francis ain't exactly beaming himself there either.

The thing about Larry is, he's looking like that at Isiah, but he's only got himself to blame. He singlehandedly pissed away the Detroit job, and if he was still there, he'd very likely be adding another conference title and quite possibly another Finals championship to boot. And this makes me wonder, if a "genius" head coach makes this kind of career move...how much of a genius can he actually be??

It's not often that a trade makes me laugh out loud. There may not even be enough balls at the pregame shootaround for this team.

The Magic are actually just gonna waive Penny and pay out the end of his contract so the Knicks don't have to.

And the look on Isiah's face says "If Bill Simmons makes fun of me again because of this trade, I'm walking to LA and beating him within an inch of his life."

And on another topic; for all the talk of NY's expiring deals (Penny, A.Davis) getting players like KG in return, all NY got for them was...

Rose
Franchise
Denvers first rounder.

Either Isiah is the worst GM ever in pro sports, or expiring deals in the NBA aren't as valuable as they are made out to be.

He didn't have to- he just posted his emails:

http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/blog/index?name=simmons

So, now, on any given NBA game night we could see:

- The NY Knicks backcourt in a full-on brawl, amongst themselves, or

- The Portland Trailblazers comitting 3 felonies, and a misdemeanor on the way to a pregame shootaround.

I may have to start watching again.

"Though judging by the faces Larry Brown was making at the press conference yesterday, maybe those three on the court at the same time will happen sooner rather than later. He realizes he took the Knicks home from the bar, slept with them, and now that it's morning, he doesn't want to cook them breakfast."

I laughed so hard at this.

Okay, so this writer is suggesting that Isaiah's plan is to gather up "marketable assets" in order to make a trade for Kevin Garnett during the summer ...

Now, I know that some Timberwolves fans were interested in bringing Stephon Marbury back to the team (I'm not sure why, but the sentiment is out there), but you tell me ... If you were Kevin McHale, is there REALLY any combination of players on the Knicks that would be enough to pry KG out of your hands?

Just a dumb dumb guy, this Isaiah Thomas be.

"Every morning when I go to work, there is an old lady and an old man on a park bench," (Shawn Respert) says. "Every morning, I hope they're there. Because I understand, one of these days, they'll be gone. But when they're there, I smile. It's dumb stuff like that I would not have noticed when I was playing in the NBA."

If I were a betting man, I'd say the Lakers put together a package for Garnett (most likely with Odom as its centerpiece) before he ends up going to the Knicks.

If you are looking at landing places for Garnett, I'd think Orlando and Chicago would be the best bets. A Darko + Hill's expiring contract + a combination of #1 picks would probably be the best package Orlando could do. Chicago would be able to package potentially 2 lottery picks plus some combination of Gordon/Deng/Chandler. Chicago probably would be the best bet in that situation. Both of those are better than anything the Knicks could ever do, and it would be better than a Lakers package with the added benefit of Garnett being in the Western Conference.

Bill Simmons is frequently awesome, but this (sports.espn.go.com) was his best effort in a long, long time.
