Yet another 24 cliche, a suspect or someone is about to die and needs to give Jack something and hands it off to Jack right before he dies. In both this season and the second season he had to get a chip from the bad guys as they were dying. In season 4, he needed to get a key from a dying CTU agent to his cuff, and memory sticks from a security guard.

Looks like Audrey is having to work outside protocol and under the radar which she was very upset about in season 4.

Lynn is such an ass-clown. He's not telling anyone that someone stole his key card. And now a scum bag can possibly sell it to somebody even more dubious. And he's taking out that aggression on CTU. Lynn and the President are the undoing of CTU and the US.

Next episode, Curtis gets to be badass!

I love love love this season so far. The previews for 4:00 - 5:00 PM have me pumped. Just one thing...

Wouldn't Audrey outrank Rudy?

She's DOD. He clearly doesn't outrank her, since he can't touch her (besides his moaning about her father.) Since DOD has control over CTU's budget (Season Premiere, Day 4,) couldn't she pull rank on him? Or at least threaten to call daddy?

Well she did kind of pull that card. And I guess that's the reason Lynn can't put her into custody.

The tension with Lynn would be more....well, tense if Bauer didn't establish earlier in the episode that he had the President's go-ahead. If Curtis had let him make that call, Jack could've avoided this whole bit of nonsense. Also, it could've saved Curtis from getting the Brutus Beefcake special, but hey.

Things would also be more tense if Sean Astin hadn't played Rudy and a hobbit in his career. Geez, that guy is done for life.

President Logan is such a fucking weasel. It's great having a POTUS this slimy after Palmer's admirable, but predictable, nobility.

Worst...episode...EVER.

This episode was utterly ruined by two colossolly stupid moves:

1. Jack gets the phone call from Mendelson--why doesn't he just TELL Curtis about it? Curtis obviously wasn't thrilled about taking Jack into custody to begin with; if he knew that Jack had a lead, and that the lead would only talk to Jack, there's no way he would stop Jack from pursuing it. Hell, he'd help. In past seasons, Jack has gone rogue like that because the authority figure was intractable, or because there was a mole he had to keep the secret from, or because the bad guy would have known if he wasn't alone, but none of those things was true here. Even Lynn would have been happy if Jack had a lead that might actually go somewhere. Having Jack tell Curtis and involve CTU would have been more logical, and more original. But, no, we need to manufactured conflict, and we need to follow the formula. Yuck.

2. Neither Logan nor Novick can think of another way to handle the situation? Took me about ten seconds. Give them a *fake* itinerary, throw together a fake motorcade of Secret Service/FBI/CTU people, and try to apprehend the terrorists there. Or work with the Russian president to send the real motorcade out without him, and do the same thing. It's not exactly rocket science.

And we got the return of Lynn's stupid family drama, too. I swear, I came really close to bailing on this episode entirely.

Jack had just heard that Rudy was "on the warpath," and you expect him to leave it to CTU? Would Jack *ever* leave it to CTU, given the choice? You just start watching this season? ;-)

Besides, Curtis may be bad ass, but he's by-the-books bad ass. No way he lets Jack on his own and covers for him. Everybody acted in character last night.

How do you know it *wasn't* fake? Novick's the one who retrieved and gave out the info, not Logan. And Novick seemed none too pleased with how Logan wanted to handle the situation.

I liked this episode last night. They totally pulled the ol' switcheroo, getting rid of the last two villains from the first 8 episodes (Nathanson and Yellow Tie Guy) and switching things to this new evil Russian guy, who sorta reminds me of Max from Season 2, The Warlock!

I think the character arc of Lynn McGill is that he's basically a wannabe-Napolean figure, trying to maintain control and not being respected (or ruling under the assumption that no one respects him). The stuff with Audrey, Chloe and Bill could have been done a little better. Audrey really didn't know enough to have to cover for Jack like that and wiping out her phone logs was a bit too extreme.

And, yeah, this is at least the fourth instance on the show where a dying person has given Jack some sort of thing as they were dying. Walsh in Season 1, Wallace in Season 2, Ronnie in Season 4, and now Nathanson last night. I can't remember if there was anything like this in Season 3 or not.

I'm thinking the motorcade will be attacked next week. That's why they put Mrs. Logan and Pierce in the limo, to heighten tension. This is 24. Imagine Logan basically signing the death warrant of his own wife. They've done worse.

Next week, 24: The Game comes out. Even if the gameplay sucks, it's supposed to bridge the gap between Seasons 2 and 3, so it may be worth it just for the story.

I liked the episode too, its getting the story back on track. I also think Jack could've convinced Curtis to go along and let him escape.

I'd hope for the motorcade to get hit just to stop Mrs. Logan from being so annoying. Another option is the president could threaten to blow up Chechnya or wherever these russian terrorists are coming from. He should show some power; what being president and all.

Being DOD doesn't really outrank CTU, see also at the start of Day 4 when Jack was DOD and nobody really listened to him in spite of his budgetary powers.

Rudy could just report that he lost his security card and needs a new one.

Lynn and Logan are both douche bags and should be shot execution style by jack... that said... it was a pretty good episode. I love it how any chip or disk or memory stick in existance somehow plugs into jacks phone and works perfectly. I want one.

So why is the current lead bad guy British and anti-Russian? What's his deal?

Also, was the new head villain played by Adrian Sands?

Just like you can't go any higher on the badass food chain than Imhotep himself, you can't go any higher than Sands.

He was THE WARLOCK, man.
