Ken Griffey Jr. is at it again. No no he's not hitting homeruns or making great catches. He's bitching about his hometown fans again. Here's a link... http://espn.go.com/mlb/news/2002/0506/1378859.html
This guy just doesn't seem to get it. He's a big star, with a big contract. Those guys get the spotlight and the spotlight isn't to comfortable when your not playing well or just not playing. Griffey even stated that Cincy is worse than Seattle, when it comes to *beating him up*.

Oh yeah in other news the Mariners held a ceromony for Mike Cameron and his 4 homerun performance ... http://espn.go.com/mlb/news/2002/0507/1379723.html
"It's a feeling I don't think everyone around the league gets playing at Safeco Field," Cameron said of how fans have embraced him.

Wow, those very SAME fans that Griffey just HAD to get away from. Well one man's trash is another man's treasure, or is one man just an ungrateful ass?

*sigh* I used to hang out a little with junior when we were kids in Cincy. He was a good guy then. Now, even I have to say I wish he'd get the hell out of town. Reds fans are loyal to their stars, if not always to the team itself as long as said stars played and at least occasionally produced (witness the LOVE this town still had for the way-past-his-prime Johnny Bench in the early 80's, when the Reds were perennially the worst team in baseball, simply because he played hard and his injuries were those brought on by many years catching and a freak accident as a first baseman).

Maybe we can con somebody into taking him off our hands in exchange for a #1 starting pitcher and a top shortstop prospect to take Larkin's place when he eventually hangs up the spikes.

EDIT: fixed some spelling and capitalization errors

I think his problem is that everyone's getting on him for constantly being injured.... and not producing when he is.... and being a prick to the hometown fans.

Oh, wait, those are valid reasons to be upset with him, aren't they? I remember one of his nicknames - "The Kid." Kind of fitting now, isn't it?

Simple; he had all that potential and there was all that talk aout him being a potentia great, and the only time he lived up to it was during the M's miracle run in the 90's. ANd even then, that was more Burhner Johnson and ~EGDAR

Actually, I feel for Ken Griffey's case.

Sure, the Reds outfield is looking amazing right now - but SEVENTY FOUR percent of the fans in a poll suggested he should be the guy getting benched in his return. This is Ken Griffey Jr. we're talking about - a guy who can consistently hit .300, hit 50 homeruns, and is a gold glove centre fielder.

He's a guy who took about half his market value to play for the Reds, and is deferring cash so they can be a competitive club.

The fans so quickly forget. I don't want to get into the argument that "he should be happy with his $10 million a year" because I'm talking market value, not how overpaid baseball players are in general.

He can't help being injured. They'll forgive and forget as soon as he has a full Griffey season...assuming he hangs around long enough to give them one.

He really shouldn't be getting so worked up about some rinky dink poll in the first place, but he always does. Griffey's biggest enemy has always been Griffey. I for one can't blame Cincy fans, since they've yet to see much of anything from Junior yet.

He's a guy who COULD consistently hit .300, hit 50 HR's, and play a gold glove centerfield. I think his injuries will make all three of those nearly impossible now, though.

If he'd stretch and condition more, which he just doesn't do, he'd be a hell of a lot less injury-prone. So, in a way, he can help being injured.

My biggest kvetch about Griffey is that he's basically engineered his own trade on one occasion and then forced the Reds' hand in resigning Barry Larkin for waaaaaay too much. Players should not have that much control over things.

Just ask Jeff Bagwell.

Our problem Giffey is thus- when he is in the lineup we lose, when he is out of the lineup we win. Isn't the point of Baseball to win? Griffey obviously does not make the team better, so get rid of him.

Anyone who has half a head about them knows that when a team is winning like the Reds have been, you don't mess with the team. Griffey completely changes the makeup of the lineup and the team. And how are you going to justify benching Austin Kearns, Juan Encarcion, and Adam Dunn. You can't. Period.

Trade Griffey while you can still get a legit #1 pitcher for him or else count us out of the race in the NL- its that simple. He's done (in Cincy anyway).

WOW! The use of cause and effect here is...stunning!

I'm certain the Reds would have no problem moving Jr.

And there's ALWAYS a reason to bench Encarnacion.

    WOW!
