| #1 Posted on 8.2.06 0834.42 Reposted on: 8.2.13 0834.52 | Mike & Mike in the Morning just announced that Mike Tirico, Joe Theismann, and Tony Kornheiser will be doing Monday Night Football for ESPN, with Suzy Kolber & Michelle Tafoya manning the sidelines. They also announced they're elevating Mike Breen to the #1 NBA on ABC announcer position, freeing up Al Michaels to jump to NBC.
-----------------------------------------------
Originally it was planned that Al Michaels was going to stay with the MNF brand and jump to ESPN, but after a change of heart is going to NBC to stay along side John Madden, and will be doing the Sunday Night games..
Glad to hear Al & John are going to be able to stay together, and am very interested to see what Kornheiser brings to the broadcast, as I watch PTI every day. | Promote this thread! | | GodEatGod

I could definitely live without the other two, Theismann in particular, but it'll be okay. Too bad about Michaels, though, as I've always found him to be sort of the unsung, solid, workmanlike guy on MNF. He deserves better than being the anchor holding down the Madden Hot Air Balloon. | Bullitt

Well, Michaels wanted to leave with Madden, so don't feel too bad. I'm sure he gets a nice paycheck. | bash91

I wish I could agree, but I'm afraid Kornheiser's really going to suck unless he's got control over Theismann's mute button. My opinion is colored by the fact that I think that Theismann is in a close race with Cris Collinsworth for the position as worst color guy / analyst on television, but I just don't see the chemistry in that booth resulting in anything but lots of really painful silences following most anything that Theismann says.

Not happy.
-- no more radio -- PTI on the road -- I don't usually watch MNF anyway
Amazingly, I was at PTI two weeks ago and this wasn't even a story yet. Now, it's done.

| #8 Posted on 8.2.06 1857.26 Reposted on: 8.2.13 1859.01 | I've always like Tirico, so it's nice to see him bumped up. Will miss him on Thursday Night College Football though. If ABC had held onto the BCS(outside of the Rose Bowl), I thought Tirico could move into either the #1 or #2 college booth to replace Jackson and/or Brent. Who has to break the news to Tony that these are night games and that traveling is required? Of course, when it is mid November and he gets 2-7 Cardinals vs. 1-8 49ers, he better rip the game on the air to retain credibility. And, no matter how bad Theisman can be, at least ESPN didn't put Stuart Scott in the booth.

I actually really like Collinsworth, which brings up my question: will he still be on the NBC broadcast? The original plan was Madden/Costas/Collinsworth on Sunday nights, but with Michaels coming over I can't imagine they'd go to a three-man booth. Collinsworth on MNF with Tirico and Kornheiser would be roughly a thousand times better than more of Theismann's crap. | drjayphd

As far as Mr. Tony goes, it sounds like a good idea. I like Mike Tirico, and if they could replace Theismann with a good analyst they'd have a really strong team. | EddieBurkett

| #13 Posted on 9.2.06 1624.25 Reposted on: 9.2.13 1625.24 | So the official announcement that Michaels would be joining Madden came today, which surprises nobody, but the conditions of how NBC got Michaels from ABC/Disney are crazy! (sports.espn.go.com) ABC gets Ryder cup matches, expanded sports highlights (including from the Olympics), MNF ad time, and the rights to Oswald the rabbit. Who knew that a man could be worth a cartoon?
