Start Me Up has to be one of the most overplayed songs ever, so what's the point in censoring it. Everyone has already heard the song with the word included, so deleting the one word really doesn't mean anything. Well, it just reinforces the perception that the Stones don't have any, well...stones. They changed the lyrics to Let's Spend the Night Together to appear on Ed Sullivan (30 years ago, after they were already huge), so I guess nothing has changed for them since. | Promote this thread! | | Roy.

The lyrics in question from the new song, for those who've never heard them:
From Rough Justice
One time you were my baby chicken Now you've grown into a fox Once upon a time I was your little rooster But am I just one of your cocks
We're apparently a nation of Puritans now. I hear Start Me Up two or three times every time I go to a Phillies game, and I'm sure nobody's complained. What a joke.

I was on IMDB.com the other day and they've got stories from the Stones people saying that they're pissed that they got censored, and pissed that people are trying to say that they were okay with it.

Am I the only one who thinks this verse is meaningless except as a cheap excuse to get away with saying "cocks"?

What part of the song do they play, though? I'd expect them to play the song's hook to warm up the crowd between batters, but the hook isn't the controversial part. The only way they'd get to "You make a dead man come" is if they play the entire song, and I can't see them doing that two or three times in one game without complaints. | | ALL ORIGINAL POSTS IN THIS THREAD ARE NOW AVAILABLE |
