I'm assuming Batista would have kept the title until the big one and dropped it to a heelish Orton. | Promote this thread! | | Batista79

I think they would be building to a Taker/Batista Mania.. I heard somewhere that they were going to us the same plan with Angle that they were going to use with Batista | hayden

I'm pretty sure the original plan for Batista wasn't him and Taker at Mania, as they were advertised to fight at No Way Out. My guess is that Angle is being plugged in for Batista, as you said, and that it'll be Angle/Orton at Mania instead of Batista/Orton.

They've retooled, rebuilt, and released him back into the top tier. After beating Taker at Summerslam it really gave him that momentum for the rest of 2005 so I'm not to surprised there is talk of Orton picking up some gold at Mania. | oldschoolhero

Had they put Orton over, decisively, in the Hell In a Cell, maybe they wouldn't have to pull out all the cheap-heat stops with him by having him insult a guy who near-literally gave his life for the company on national TV. | ekedolphin

I'm convinced that Eddie Guerrero was going to win the World Heavyweight Title the day he died, while remaining Batista's "best friend" on camera.
Batista, then, would have had the time off to heal, and wouldn't have made his injury worse. I think WWE did itself a disservice by not calling an audible and having Batista drop the belt shortly after Eddie's death to, I don't know, Orton, Taker, Benoit or somebody. Instead they had Batista tough it out, and made it worse by booking him against someone as big as Mark Henry. Then they wonder why he ended up re-aggravating the injury.
Anyhoo... had Eddie not died, Batista would've been able to mend, and Eddie would've defended the World Title successfully against all comers through the Royal Rumble or even No Way Out. Then in time to re-establish the big Batista/Eddie angle for the WrestleMania main event, one of them would have turned on the other.
Eddie would've defended the World Title against Batista in SmackDown's WM22 main event, and depending on which man turned heel, the other man would've won. Obviously they were teasing an Eddie heel turn, but I think it would've been more surprising and exciting had Batista turned on Eddie.
Anyway... God, I hope Orton doesn't win the World Title at WrestleMania 22. Let's go Rey! Beat him at No Way Out and then beat 'Taker or Angle for the title at WrestleMania! | redsoxnation

He would probably still be a heel on RAW with Davairi managing him, which means he would be beneath Trip and Edge on the heel title contender list, as he would have run out of chances at Cena. Michaels was going to be tied up with Vince, Kane/Paul Wight don't seem a good fit against Angle, so that would have left someone out of the combination of Flair/Shelton/RVD. They gave away Flair/Angle already, so that would have been doubtful. Shelton probably is going to turn heel by Mania, so that would have eliminated that, although that would have been the best match out of the bunch. That would have left Van Dam or an intershow match against either Taker or Benoit (I won't even consider Angle vs. Boogeyman). You can roll out Angle vs. Benoit any day and it wouldn't get old with me, but it would have probably have been Angle jobbing to Taker or Angle facing RVD in an awkward match. Thus, Kurt has really benefitted from the Batista injury, as he'll be in the Mania Main Event rather than in the second or third match. | thecubsfan

In the newsletter, Melzter stated the plan was for Eddie to win the title in the scheduled Batista/Orton/Eddie three way, but he was to turn on Batista at the end of the match to do it, so they wouldn't have kept being friends but Eddie would'v been able to take responiblity for the injury. | ekedolphin

According to Meltzer's Eddie obit, the plan was for Eddie to turn on Batista at the Supershow.
