Great episode this week.

Some firsts:

-First ever meeting between Aaron Pierce and Jack Bauer. Hard to believe, but in 5 seasons of 24 Aaron and Jack have never met each other, apparently on screen or off. They also teamed up for the first time and it was awesome.

-First on-screen meeting of Jack and Mike Novik.

-First on-screen meeting with Jack and President Logan.

Ok, so Logan seems like he will be a good guy for now, but he's weak and easy to manipulate. Jack getting ghetto on Cummings with that knife was brilliant.

Jack and Audrey pairing. Essentially the writers have made this what Michelle and Tony was last year. Will Jack and Audrey reconcile or be able to get back together by season's end or not?

It seems Jack can continue working for now without China finding out. So Jack's back to CTU for now.

Who's the other person in the penthouse in the preview?! Is it a kid? A woman?

Nice block by the First Lady on Logan's reconciliation.

Jack with the knife at Cummings' face was awesome.

I was so expecting McGill to fire Buchanan when he called him out of the room.

Overall, decent episode. I can only wonder what is going to happen to Diane and Derek on their way back home.

Well Behrooz is a loose end from season 4. We never know what happened to him. He could come back to haunt Jack in the future. Especially since Jack was indirectly responsible for the death of his mother.

I guess the question is though, will we even see Behrooz this season or not?

Jack should have taken out Walts' eye. That, along with that video of what the 'virus' is supposed to do would have made this the grossest thing on TV this week.

Jack and Logan's hand shake felt creepy to me... like it was forshadowing one of them getting killed later in the season. Since there rushing into a movie of 24, for summer next year, I'm safe in guessing Logan isn't gonna make it through this season. (oops! Was this a 'spoiler'?)

I'd like to see Novik become POTUS in a later season, I think he'll easily live up to the "President Palmer' standards.

Great episode with action AND storyline driven, which has been a problem with this show in the past where the storyline driven shows are lacking the action.

Actually, Jack and Pierce did meet in Season One. Pierce was the secret service agent that inadvertantly let Jack in to the Palmer breakfast speech with the gun (it was hidden in a laptop and Pierce didn't catch it). I think he may have also met Jack when Palmer's hotel room blew up.

But, it was the first time they had teamed up. And, man, was it awesome!

After Walt Cummings was the guy who ordered the hit on Bauer last season, it was great to have Jack finally meet up with him and go back to his intense "I will shove this towel down your throat" self.

The stuff with President Logan and Walt Cummings, after Logan had found out Walt was behind killing David Palmer, was great. I really like what they're doing with the President this season and it seemed that, by the end of the episode, Logan was really trying to make good on himself and set things straight. But, he was totally under Walt Cummings' EVIL spell the entire time. Like that one bearded guy in that trilogy about the ring.

"So, you killed David Palmer? Well, all right."

So, we're only 1/4 of the way through the season and we've already got the guy who ordered the Palmer hit held responsible. I sure hope they have a lot more planned for this season.

The mention of sending Jack to the "Class Three Detention Facility" was also cool, for those who have watched the show since Season One. Technically, Jack Bauer does not exist. Like Michael Knight!

EDIT: Another first worth noting is that this is the first time Jack Bauer has been in the room with the President of the United States, be it Palmer, Bush, or Logan. And the President was totally all about letting Jack get away with whatever he wanted! That was cool.

Kinda hard to do that, considering Nina's, well, dead and all.

You know what my first thought was? Kim. It'd certainly be an interesting way for her and Jack to reunite, and she *is* due to return this season according to the leaks we've gotten.

I do believe I called (The W) the fact that Walt was pulling a sting on the terrorists. Certainly wasn't a good idea to do it behind Planet Stasiak's back, though. And I don't believe him for a second when he says he was acting alone. I'm willing to bet there was someone else inside the gov't involved who was playing double agent for the terrorists. Can't think of who that might be, though.

They really should have kept Nina on the show as the one nemesis Jack couldn't get rid of - before having her killed in the series finale of course. Maybe we can find out that Season 3 Nina was just a fake that went to the same plastic surgeon as Surveillance Video Jack.

I don't know about Logan being on the side of light quite yet. Two minutes after Jack saves the day, he's ready to send him away again becuase of the China thing. Not cool at all. But yes, the knife thing was incredibly fantastic, and I was hoping it would actually lead to Cummings losing an eye. There's only so many times you can tease taking an eye out before you deliver.

Walt still had Palmer killed, and because of him a doctor in the CTU office was killed. The man is a scumbag. I hope Jack knifes out his eyes just for the hell of it.

My bad on missing the first Aaron/Jack meeting from season 1.

Also, Elisha Cuthbert confirmed on Love Line a while back that she would be back this season with a significant role. Sadly I might add though .

Agent Aaron Pierce made my eyes swell up with tears of patriotic pride. Not quite the same as the tears Walt Cummings' eyes were swelling up with.

President Charles Logan is becoming a man. But Jack disappearing IS in the best interests of everybody involved, especially the population of the USA.

What intrigues me most now is this...now that Yellow Tie Man's plans to smuggle the gas into Russia have been squashed, he's gonna turn around *on the fly* and attack the US with it? I'm curious to see how this pans out.

Oh, and...

"I'm done talking with you, you understand me? Now you read my file. First thing I'm gonna do is I'm gonna take out your right eye, then I'm gonna move over and I'm gonna take out your left. And then I'm going to cut you. I'm going to keep cutting you until I get the information that I need, do you understand me? So, for the last time...where is the nerve gas?"

I'm not sure if they met then, but they *definitely* met up when they were setting up the sting on the Drazen brother who was sleeping with a campaign staffer. 24 apologized to Aaron for causing all the havoc that morning. You might even say they teamed up a little bit, but nothing like this. I'm a huge mark for Aaron Pierce, so I was very happy with his role tonight.

The segue from one plot to another was, for a change, done logically and effectively.

This is a really interesting idea. After last season's ridiculously complicated plan from Marwan, it is a novel touch to have a terrorist threat that is basically flying by the seat of their pants. It makes it much harder for CTU to plan against.

It took over 100 episodes, but finally they brought Aaron F'N Pierce and Jack F'N Bauer together to dispense some serious ass-kicking justice in one of the best scenes in the show's history. I am also a Pierce mark and I thought it was a nice touch, much like the acknowledgment of Buchanan's investment in Michelle (that someone here pointed out), to acknowledge his loyalty to and friendship with Palmer.

Season 4 took a lot of flak for the immense amount of suspension of disbelief necessary to enjoy it, but if anything, that season introduced tremendous new characters. In fact, 5/9 of this season's opening cast (Audrey, Edgar, Bill, Curtis, and Logan) were introduced last season. While Audrey, Curtis, and Edgar are good characters portrayed by fine actors, it is Bill and Logan that stand out to me as casting triumphs, and they had some really good moments on this episode. Bill convincing the incredibly uptight and by-the-book Lynn to disregard a PRESIDENTIAL ORDER did not seem very realistic, but it was the way that he convinced him that really drove home the older-but-junior mentor/younger-but-senior leader dynamic. It was nice to see Bill meet and match Lynn's good call earlier in the day of stopping the assault, and hopefully Lynn can take this as a valuable lesson.

Just the fact that someone like Bill is running CTU is astounding to me. After Erin Driscoll's power plays and so-so decisions, it is nice to see someone who seems to have some common sense and is willing to put his balls out there to do the right thing. Another thing that I really enjoy about this character is his obvious-yet-silent contempt for Logan. He has alluded to it a few times, but is too professional to actually say something about it (sans an offhand comment to Audrey in the premiere). Logan, meanwhile, is played brilliantly. The revelation of Cummings' involvement allowed him to display shock and indignation, yet ultimately cowardice in the face of potential public embarrassment. I was very disappointed in the fact that he was willing to keep this under wraps, yet felt the need to "confess" to Jack that he was "coerced." Jack, for his part, looked pretty let down that a bumbling asspony like this was running the country.

Anyway, the strength of these two characters makes me think that a solid future subplot might be Bill getting involved in politics. Why not? The actor looks the part, and he seems to have solid decision-making skills.

Kim Raver is a very beautiful woman, but the Audrey character is serving to irritate me all over again. I can respect the fact that her emotions are being thrown for a loop, but she really needs to let Jack concentrate while he's, you know, trying to save the world again. Also, I was a bit saddened by the lack of Chloe and Edgar this week.

About the mystery person in next week's preview...I, too, thought it was Behrooz...he was the second person that popped into my mind. The first was Mandy. Of course, whoever it was looked as if they had short hair, but I digress.

Much love all around for this episode. Action Aaron and Mike Novick yelling at the agents made it a plus. One question, though...if you were Jack, would you go with heart-on-her-sleeve DoD hottie Audrey, or MILF-a-licious with a kid who finally respects you Diane?

I actually think Mandy is eventually going to end up in this role (or at least I hope so, because she has been treated nearly perfectly for it thus far). Until the very last episode last season, Mandy meant death for anyone she came in contact with, and actually was astoundingly efficient and effective in staying off everyone's radar. Last year, it took basically the 24 version of the Justice League (Jack, Tony, Curtis, Michelle with Chloe running point) to finally take her down, and she still almost got away under impossible odds.

Behrooz would be awesome, but a definite head-scratcher as to his involvement here. My money is on Kim.

I completely agree, and genius of you to pick up on this, Big Bad. That has been the drawback to many of the season-long plans of 24, that they are too intricate to be possible. The notion of a terrorist with one goal (in this case, picking up the poison gas) and then a few ideas of how to use it to really fuck up some shit that you can decide on based on the way the authorities are chasing it is brilliant in its simplicity. If this is the case, then a tip of the cap to whomever thought up this Gordian Knot of a plan.

Amazing episode. 24 and Lost continue to justify my owning a TV.

best episode so far this season. still trying to figure out if Cummings killed Michelle and tried to take out Tony and Chloe. Killing Palmer is something even Logan wouldn't put up with. even though he agrees with the last person he talks to, he wouldn't allow the killing of even an ex-president. seems like it would've been easier for Cummings just to tell Logan about the gas in the first place, he's so flaky he could've been convinced to go along with it.

Bill was also good last week on his interrogation of the mole. Chloe was complaining about sleeping with him and Bill is wanting her to leave her bedroom out of this.

I still don't forgive Novick for siding with the lame VP against Palmer.

What a horrible chief aide that first lady has to sell her out and act like its nothing. Now lets see less of the first lady and more of the Audrey/redhead catfight over Jack.

This has apparently made it to me through enough third parties that I don't really know who originally created it, although http://www.notrly.com/jackbauer/index.php?topthirty seems to be the earliest source I can find:

Facts about Jack Bauer:

life.

2) If Jack Bauer was in a room with Hitler, Stalin, and Nina Meyers,
and he had a gun with 2 bullets, he’d shoot Nina twice.

3) Upon hearing that he was played by Kiefer Sutherland, Jack Bauer

4) Jack Bauer’s favorite color is severe terror alert red. His second

I expected a bunch of Chuck Norris facts with Jack Bauer replaced into them but was happily suprised at how many of these are Jack Bauer specific and hilarious.
