I always believed that team nicknames should be intimidating in some regard. That's why I was okay with "Mighty Ducks." But just "Ducks"? I don't know. I guess they really wanted to get away from the Disney connotations?

Yes, like the dreaded UC-Davis Anteaters?

I always found it amusing that they were the "Mighty Ducks of Anaheim". As far as weird and unwieldy team names, that ranks up there with the "New York / New Jersey Hitmen" and the "Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim".

There's also the NY/NJ MetroStars- I know there's a reason they had to call the teams "NY/NJ" but I can't remember what (stadium issues, maybe?).

You would think that instead of removing just the "Mighty" part, they would just completely change the name. What is native to Anaheim that would be intimidating anyway? Anaheim Antelopes? Anaheim Amigos? Anaheim Armadillos?

They'll never be rid of the Disney stigma until they move the team out of Anaheim or, as suggested, just change the name entirely.

Anaheim SubarbanStars?

Here's the best part. Now it's just The MetroStars. That's it. If you want bad team names, you really can't go wrong with MLS. FC Dallas, Real Salt Lake, Houston 1836, CD Chivas USA...

At one point, wasn't it the KC Wiz and the Dallas Burn? There's a bad combination.

I dunno about BAD, they're just different. MLS might as well go there, since they tried to "Americanize" the game a bit and it just turned off soccer diehards.

I think the New York Cosmos of the old NASL dropped the New York from the name for a few seasons.

Aren't the Anteaters from UC-Santa Barbara?

UC-Santa Barbara is the Gauchos.
UC-Santa Cruz is the Banana Slugs.
UC-Davis is actually the Aggies.
and UC-Irvine is the Anteaters.
Proof that something is wrong in California.

I can FULLY support any team naming themselves after "The O.C." The "O.C. Ducks" or "the Angels of the O.C." would rule. (No, I don't watch the show. I see all I need during the endless promos during "Idol" and NFL games.)

EDIT: In fact, since my thought was "horrible traffic", I'll go ahead and nominate "the O.C. Gridlock" for any team that wants it.
