The PWTorch newsletter reports that The Undertaker recently threw a fit backstage when he found out that WWE officials apparently had knowledge that, as a teenager, Bob Orton had hepatitis and was told to bleed with Undertaker in the ring. Hepatitis apparently remains contagious for life.

To be perfectly honest, can you blame him? I'd say it borders on gross negligence for a company to put one of their employees in a situation as risky as that whilst having prior knowledge.

Huh?
Do you mean Randy Orton?
Isn't Bob Orton OLDER than Undertaker? Why would UT be in the ring with a teenage Bob Orton? Or Randy for that matter?

Bizarre story

EDIT: Oh never mind. I re-read it and get it now.

It think it might be a reference to the Hell In A Cell match. IIRC, Bob Orton bladed outside the cell, then came in towards the end of the match.

Hyatte broke this news last week.

Apparently Cowboy Bob Orton Jr told John Laurenhoweveryouspellit, that he has Hepatitus. Johnny Ace knew about it, and still allowed the blading to take place. UT and Randy both were exposed to it.

Hepatitus can be FATAL depending on the form you get, and the severety of the damage it does to the liver.

UT can probably own half of WWE if he contracts it and sues.

Sorry, I don't blame Taker in the least. There has to be some trust with the people you're working with, ESPECIALLY when you're dealing with someone like Bob Orton, who has been around forever and knows the way the business works. Even if it was some young kid, it's just common sense that you disclose something like hepatitis up front...

Edit: After reading the item again... maybe it wasn't Orton's fault entirely, if WWE officials knew about it, too. That makes it even worse.

I'm guessing this wasn't the Cowboy's first blade job in his 30 years as a wrestler, so how many other wrestlers have been exposed to hepatitis by getting in the ring with a bloody Bob Orton, especially in the days where sanitary conditions were slightly subpar?

I'm not sure how (or if) anyone is blaming Taker. It's a SERIOUS virus. Whether or not he contracts it, this is outrageous. So Vince McMahon holds a backstage meeting with his wrestlers about protecting them from themselves with drugs, and airs it on WWE.com... but how is this not more serious when the company itself is 100% to blame for this situation? Hopefully nobody else gets infected.

Nah, I'm pretty sure it was first mentioned in the Jan. 9 Observer. But what you say about Johnny Ace knowing ahead of time and then playing dumb is true. Also, Bob tried to claim it was an accidental hardway cut. Okay. But Bob also didn't think his hepatitis could be contagious because he had it so long ago.

I bet you can chalk this up equally to irresponsibility and ignorance. Like someone else pointed out, it's likely Bob Orton truly believed that since he was diagnosed so long ago, it wasn't contagious. It's also possible that Laurinitis had no idea, although he should've known enough at least to look into it and ask around. If the question was raised, the effort should've been put forth to investigate further. Then again, a man in his position probably has other things on his mind.

Bob: Listen, John...I know you want me to blade and all, but I had hepatitis when I was a teenager. Should I be worried?
John: *internal dialogue* Hmm...Hepatitis...that sounds like my last name...
Bob: Uh...John?
John: *internal dialogue again* And if Fit Finlay can make a comeback...well, the American audience wouldn't know Johnny Ace or John Laurinitis. But they'd sure remember Johnny Hepatitis!
Bob: JOHN!
John: What? Oh, sorry. Yeah, sounds like a good idea to me.
Bob: You're the boss.
John: And now entering the ring, weighing in at two hundred and fifty-seven pounds, "The Communicable" Johnnyyyyy Hepaaaaatitiiiiiiis! Oh, wait, communicable? Bob? BOB! Oh well.

Does it say anywhere which strain of Hep virus this is? If it's A, then UT has nothing to worry about. If it's B, then UT "probably" has nothing to worry about. If it's C, then UT should sue the pants off Vince and make him join Undertaker's Kiss My Ass Club.

It was highly negligent of the WWE not to investigate Orton's health after he disclosed his history with Hep. Hopefully, Orton had a non-chronic strain of the disease and this will serve as a wake-up call to the WWE.

With all the blading going on, and those matches where two guys are covered in one another's blood, everyone in the company should be tested for Hep C and HIV and any number of other diseases before they do a blade job.

Stilton's dead on the money .... Without knowing the story, we can't say how serious this is.

I am going to suggest that Bob was probably not a carrier of the disease, because I cannot imagine any company being so negligent as to allow an employee to enter conditions whereby bleeding may take place with fellow employees while having KNOWLEDGE of the hepatitis.

Having suffered from it in his teens, I'm going to assume it was an acute case of the virus, and nothing more.

However - if it turns out to be otherwise, in the Undertaker's spot, I'd be tempted to leave the company immediately and file a lawsuit. I'm not one who approves of suing people for the sake of suing them - but this is one time it would be unquestionably irresponsible of the WWE to have allowed this to happen, and I would support it 100%.

I don't think irresponsibility is even the word for it. This seems more like a solid argument against getting rid of the practise of blading altogether. Is there any other business in the world where people would even consider being soaked in one another's blood? Even the porn world has fluid exchanges which are less demented and arguably more natural than wrestling's. It's 2006, people. They make capsules for this kind of thing now. I doubt today's fan would even care enough to notice the difference.

Edit: It's NOT 2005. It's 2006, for God's sake. I'm dumb.

My dad has Hepatitis B and when he first got he was sick as a dog, turned yellow and so on. And he can't give blood either so it's bad if he gets cut open he doesn't want anybody to touch him. Because he's afraid that either me or someone else will get it.

And I can understand my UT is mad because it is something that you don't wanna get. Especially if you can avoid it.

Is this why Undertaker hasn't been on TV lately? Or is he just taking another one of his lengthy "breaks"?

And, knowing that such "exchanges" are a part of a porn "actor"'s job, they are tested rigorously for communicable diseases. How the WWE doesn't do that is beyond me.
