I am surprised no one posted this yet. I think this is good news all around. Disney won't put out a shoddy version of Toy Story 3 and Pixar retains Disney's marketing and distribution power.

I think it is good for Pixar. This way maybe the legacy of such movies as Monster's Inc. and Toy Story can be protected by them.

A lot of people think this is bad for Pixar, and they are wrong. Pixar gets to keep the Disney name and brand on all their movies which is important. As well as getting their dynamite distribution and promotion. Jobs is a large shareholder so I still think Pixar will still be alotted their creative control or what not.

But I'm just saying, for a decade they've been doing well and have grown immensely under Disney. For Disney, they recognized that Pixar is an asset and an ally they can NOT afford to lose.

The only problem I see is if Disney management wants to be too "hands on." "Hey, put a character in here based on a famous ethnic hero but make them talk and act exactly like a white person."

As long as Pixar gets more or less free reign, they should be fine. If Disney execs come in to "improve" the product by doing it their way........

I think the installation of John Lasseter as head of Feature Animation AND Theme Park Development pretty much quashes that fear, but I could be wrong.

How about NO version of Toy Story 3?
http://www.animationnation.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=011040;p=

Leave a good thing alone I say.
Good for Lasseter. I'm glad they put him in charge of Imagineering. Based on what I've seen of him on the DVD extras, he seems to really "get it" in terms of what audiences want. Plus, the tour of Pixar makes it look like one of the coolest places to work ever. I think they had management approved paper airplane competitions off the lobby balcony.

I'm glad.
A Warner Bros./Pixar or Fox/Pixar film just wouldn't seem the same somehow.

It sounds to me like they can still make Toy Story 3, except Lasseter and the other original creators will handle it. Exactly the way it should be.

Ugh. I loved TS and TS2, but I feel a TS3 would be awful. What type of plot could they have to keep an udience interested for 90 minutes. This move sounds more Disney ($$) than Pixar.

Now that Lasseter is in charge, it will only happen if they feel they can make something just as good or better. So don't worry about it.

Not for nothing, but "Dolls get kidnapped/re-located and have to find their way back home" isn't exactly Kubrick, is it?

Well, not to worry, as it looks like Toy Story 3 has been scrapped.

The plot looked to be pretty bad as well:

"According to talk in Hollywood, Disney was struggling with a script in which Buzz Lightyear, one of the two stars, developed a fault and had to be recalled to Taiwan for repairs."

Steve Jobs=King of the World. All he has left is to take a stake in video games.

Seeing as how the gist of the first was acceptance of change, and the second was the acceptance of mortality, I'm not sure where you'd even go with a third. Though the geek in me believes you need to complete a trilogy. Maybe Andy grows up and has kids that Buzz and Woody get passed to?
