By December he was already starting his feud with Foley, and it was clear to both the company and the fans that he needed far more seasoning before being pencilled in as a headliner. | JustinShapiro

| #22 Posted on 25.1.06 1511.26 Reposted on: 25.1.13 1513.56 | Steve, you're not mistaken. The original idea in fall 2003 was for Randy and Batista to punk HHH and Flair out of Evolution and start an all-young Evolution with Maven, Jindrak, and Cade. Wrestlemania XX would've been babyface Hunter vs. heel Orton for the title. When it was deemed that this was too early for Orton, they pushed plans back, programmed him with Foley, and Benoit got the call.
The plan all through 2004 was Hunter vs. Orton for WM21, but when Randy started getting babyface pops, they decided to make him the babyface instead, totally fucked up the turn, and his career hasn't been the same since. They tried to plough ahead anyway, with the idea that Orton would win the title from HHH at Mania, switch to Smackdown as champion, and turn heel. But because Orton wasn't over and Batista's slow burn was, Dave got the call instead.
This year, the plan for Smackdown had always been Orton vs. Batista. When Batista first got hurt in November, Orton was going to get the title then. When he decided to tough it out, the idea was that Orton would challenge Batista at Mania 22 and win. Now that Batista's gone again and Angle took his spot as top babyface, they'll either stick with the plan of Orton as challenger, or he could lose out on the Wrestlemania main event for the THIRD YEAR IN A ROW. Sucks to be Randy. | Gugs

Plus, there's the expectation that WrestleMania HAS to have a "Classic Wrestling Match" each year. Last year had the Money in the Bank Match, Rey/Eddie and HBK/Angle. This year, based on predictions of the card, nothing stands out. I think that Benoit MAY get a chance at another main event simply based on his (and Angle's) ability to deliver a great match in a crunch. | chill

1) Ashley/Mickie (Diva's Match) -> Mickie wins with feet on ropes.
2) Boogeyman/JBL (Not quite a scientific match) -> Boogeyman wins by countout when he lands the worms on JBL.
3) Angle/Henry (WORLD Title Match) -> Angle wins by leglock submission. Daivari will get his nose in and get knocked out.
4) Edge/Cena (WWE Title Match) -> Edge wins by heel chicanery/Lita-ference
5) Royal Rumble Match -> SD Mystery Guy -> UT, Raw Mystery Guys -> Superfly Snuka and one of the Spirit Guys that debuted last Monday (any one). HBK is told by McMahon that he is the #1 entrant. Last 4 -> HBK, HHH, Mysterio, Orton. HBK & HHH the last 2, HHH wins when McMahon comes out and pulls the top rope down, taking out HBK.
6) Late addition: Cruiserweight title match -> Kid Kash vs the cruiserweight world -> Kash wins, don't know who else is in the match

Here are WWE.com's "official" odds (wwe.com) for 25 of the 30 participants to win the Rumble...
Big Show 3-1 Kane 4-1 HHH 5-1 Benoit 6-1 HBK 6-1 Orton 8-1 Mysterio 10-1 Viscera 10-1 Flair 15-1 Lashley 15-1 Masters 15-1 Booker 20-1 Carlito 20-1 Chavo 20-1 RVD 20-1 Shelton 20-1 Animal 25-1 Hardy 25-1 Jordan 25-1 Mercury 25-1 Nitro 25-1 Murdoch 30-1 S Dean 35-1 Sylvan 35-1 Coach 100-1
- I love how Rey and Viscera are handicapped the same. Though, to their credit, WWE is using Rey's performance in the World Title Battle Royal as rationale.
- What they say for Orlando Jordan: "Depending on the draw, Orlando Jordan can go either way."

| #32 Posted on 27.1.06 1711.29 Reposted on: 27.1.13 1711.44 | I see Triple H winning the Rumble, then jumping brands to face Angle at Wrestlemania. He last elimates Big Show (maybe with Kane's help), setting up a pre-Manis match with Show. The rationale is that Smackdown needs another big name or two. Trips winning the title from Angle at Mania lets Angle rest his injuries up, and sets up Trips to face Batista for the match that never happened last year when Batista was drafted away from Raw. While Dave is away, you have good matches with Benoit and Orton to play with.
Ashley beats Mickey, either Mickey or Trish goes heel, setting up a match at Mania.
Boogeyman gets DQed against JBL. This feud has legs and is every entertaining, they'll keep it going.
Angle beats Henry.
Edge retains, probably either by DQ due to Lita's interference or a non-clean pin from a belt shot. | Hokienautic

Honestly, I believe it could well happen. In my experience, 90% of the time, the winner of the Royal Rumble is able to be determined before it occurs in order of where storylines are going. The only return we know of happening is Rob Van Dam, and while I'd love him to win, I doubt it will happen.. there are two storylines being built up, one on each brand, for someone to win the Rumble, that being HHH returning to his throne, and Rey winning for Eddie and Batista. I honestly believe that Rey has a shot on several factors, namely: - Rey is over with the fans. He has been his entire career, and has bene particularly over in the WWE. He is one of the few 'small men' who has been believably built up as having technical prowess and speed to best a big man, and one of the few, alongside guys like Shawn Michaels and Eddie Guerrero, to have the fan support to allow Vince to believe people would 'buy' it. - Rey is the ultimate underdog, and we have a heel champ on Raw, and a champ that can be easily heelified for Rey on Smackdown, leaving him able to go either way for the title, assuming both hold the title (which I believe will occur). Additionally, both even have pre-built backstory with Rey. - Finally, Faces win the Rumble. This isn't always true, but it is almost always true. HHH is not a face, ergo, HHH doesn't win the Rumble.
Honestly, the 'smart money' (bad pun intended) is on HHH, but I think the story and the buildup is there for Rey to win, and to go on to win the belt at Wrestlemania. I just hope they're ballsy enough to do it. | Freeway
