From WWE.com

"This Monday night on RAW, for the first time ever, Edge will put his newly-won WWE Championship on the line in a TLC Match. His opponent will be 16-time World Champion Ric Flair."

This is interesting, especially since Edge wrote in his autobiography that it would be impossible for just two men to sell a TLC match correctly. I'm surprised they'd throw a TLC match away on TV as well.

I like this. A nice, grueling match to build up Edge's credibility a little (before Cena kills it dead at the Rumble), plus it's basically Edge's signature match, so it makes sense.

The surprise I have, other than the fact that it's a one-on-one TLC match, is that his opponent is Ric Flair. I mean, c'mon, the guy bumps well for a 54-year-old, but not that well.

Flair's nearly 57 actually.

I dunno, is it really a good idea putting these guys in this type of match-up? With Edge's neck injury and Flair's age as well as his back.

Or maybe to paint him as an opportunistic/chickenshit heel who saw the moment to strike (when everyone else was down and the injured Benoit was climbing the ladder), much like the way he won the title?

That too, but everyone else seemed to be doing a lot more work in the match than he did. Christian was an "oppurtunistic chickenshit" heel as well.

A TLC match and Angle/Michaels? Gee, it's almost like WWE is worried about the live UFC event on Spike or something....

On the bright side, people are always complaining that wrestlers climb too slowly in ladder matches. Having old man Flair in there creates a realistic reason for doing so.

Considering "old man Flair" has managed better PPV matches than 75% of the roster for the last few shows I'm willing to see what he has to offer in this kind of environment.

Actually, Edge had MITB II against Matt Hardy at Homecoming, and he took quite a whupping in that, IIRC.

In a move guaranteed to make Edge hated by the masses, I think this match will last about one minute due to heel shenanigans. Flair took a big Concerto last week and a headshot the previous day; he has to be more vulnerable to head trauma than normal.

Maybe this will lead to the return of Moppy, or Flair can get put into nut house, and Scott Hall can show up for no reason.

Then all we'll need is Shelton Benjamin vs Kanyon in a "Shelton's mom on a poll (I mean forklift) match" and this will be the best Nitro ever!

75% of the roster isn't legendary, and can't necessarily get a massive reaction for merely being competent at doing the three moves he can still do.

It amazes me that workrate freaks can sit through Ric Flair matches. He's just doing chops, folks. The crowd reactions are out of respect for his career, not out of exhilaration over anything he's doing now. If anyone else was going out there, doing thirty chops a night, a double-ax off the top, hitting the buckle upside down at low speed, hemorrhaging inexplicably and calling it a night no one would be reacting this way.

This is a case of being famous for being famous.

Now, that doesn't mean the match will suck. As long as they stick to using it as a weapon and don't even consider having Flair bump off it, it should be a good brawl. But this is one match, heel or no, Edge should not have to cheat to win.

I was hoping we'd see variations on last week's main event:

That is so absolutely WRONG, on any level I can imagine.

I agree with everything you say, but I'm wondering how Edge CAN cheat in a match like this. Doesn't the concept of the match allow for any foreign objects (especially the T, L, and C) to be completely legal?

Aside from whoever is Flair's next challenger for the IC belt running down and interfering, I think it'll have to be as "clean" a finish as possible.

Although I would REALLY like to see Edge barely win this thing through cheating. The WWE always feeds at least one person to a new champion to give them credibility so it'll mean something when they lose the title (Like they're doing with Angle/Henry). Normally this is done at the next PPV, but if they're doing it here, then I have a bad feeling that Cena will be winning it back at the Rumble.

And, I'm sorry, but I can't seem to read your username as anything other than "TNA is Anal Alternative". Not sure if that says more about you, me or TNA though.
