My opinion ... it's now time to take on the experiment of can Rey Mysterio be considered Heavyweight Championship material. What does Smackdown really have to lose these days? | redsoxnation

Well, if they are currently feuding Batista with Mark Henry, Vince could have the warped reasoning to get a dividend on his decade long investment and make Mark Henry Your World Heavyweight Champion. Taking a quick glance at Revelations, I believe that would be the 7th Sign. | oldschoolhero

That doesn't seem like WWE's style. If that's what they were going for, they'd fabricate a story about Henry aggravating the existing lat injury, not creating a new one in the tricep.
Also, if they were making it up, they'd have attributed the injury to something that happened on TV, not at a house show. | JoshMann

Not necessarily. They used a house show in 1998 (I wanna say it was in San Jose) where Austin "showed" the aftereffects of getting hit with a shovel and the footage was helpfully shown on Raw the next night to set up the mirth that was the attempted embalment. I realize that's going back a ways, but it's a better example than the thing with Eddie's mother in 2004.
Most likely it is a legit injury, but it's not like there's no precedent in the other direction.

He's still a solid champion. Of course, if it saves us from Orton/Batista being the World Title match at WM22, I'm all for taking the belt off of Batista.
If it's absolutely necessary to take the belt off of Batista, JBL would be my pick. But, they'd probably go with UT.
If JBL gets the title, in this purely hypothetical situation, wouldn't that make him the first person to hold the World and WWE Titles in this post-split era?
Not sure how injured Edge is, but it's interesting that now we have two injured world champions on both shows.

This would not be the strangest thing they've ever done to try and get Mark Henry over.
Bring him out, bill him as the man that injured the champion, and then let him win for a couple weeks before Batista makes his 'return' and tears through him like a weed whacker running over a wedding cake.
But, no. We're just making stuff up because it's frustrating to accept at face value that Batista is injured again because Vince hasn't given up on Mark Henry. | BigSteve

Originally posted by Dave Meltzer An update on Batista is that the belief at this moment is still that he tore his triceps at yesterday's show in Verona, NY. He has been flown to Birmingham to meet with Dr. James Andrews today for a full evaluation. That means he is unlikely for tonight's house show in Elmira, at least as a participant. What decision will be made from here will depend on Andrews' evaluation. The company had made the call to go with Randy Orton as champion when Batista tore his lat several weeks back, but then when Batista said he would continue working a full schedule, the title change was rescinded.

There's a world o' possibilities. It also means they don't have to make a decision on the Mania ME so soon, which could be a good thing as they seem to have no fucking clue what they're doing in that department right now. | Tribal Prophet

Sending someone from Raw would be a good idea, but I can't see it being Cena or Triple H. Triple H is not going to the "B-Show", and I can't imagine how much they would like "Cena's return to Smackdown" to be met with 75% of the audience booing. They've got to build him back up credibility-wise in the fan's eyes before they can do anything special with him. I don't mean build him up by winning matches (they've done enough of that), I mean giving him a character change so that the fans stop shitting over everything the poor guy does.

Wow. Who's the next top sports medicine guy after Andrews, anyway? Even in MLB, the NFL and the NBA, he's usually the first guy athletes will go to for treatment. | britishiles
