Smackdown was taped in Wilkes Barre Pennsylania.
Velocity The Dicks beat some local tag team
Bobby Lashley beat another local guy
The Mexicools (Psicosis and Super Crazy) beat Nunzio and Vito
Smackdown Theodore Long came out before the event started and announced the Best of 7 Series Match 6 with Chris Benoit vs Randy Orton. Also Batista and Rey Mysterio vs MNM for the Tag Team Championship in a Steel Cage Match.
Matt Hardy vs JBL Falls Count Anywhere The match started in the crowd and went inside the barracades where Matt Hardy slammed JBL through the announce table. Then they fought in the ring for a bit and took it out near the enterance way. Hardy set up a ladder and attempted to jump onto JBL who was on the hood of his limo. But Jillan distracted Hardy while JBL smacked him with a trash can. Hardy fell off the ladder and onto the hood of the limo. JBL covered Hardy and got the win. After the match red smoke started coming out of JBL's limo and the Boogeyman appeared. He chased them into the crowd and caught Jillian and put worms inside her panties.
Randy Orton, Booker T and Sharmell are seen in the back talking and Orton is upset about last week with Sharmell. He told her to mind her own business and he will take care of it tonight. He promised Booker that he would give him the U.S Title on a silver platter.
Batista holds a press conference and says he admits Melina and he got intimate but he never harrassed her. She never said no and never said to stop. He said he would never take advantage of a women. Mark Henry interupted Batista and asked him if there is something wrong in his head that he would do that to Melina. Henry said what if it was him that has sexually harrassing Batista which got a couple of laughs from the crowd. Batista said that now is not the time unless Hnery said so. Then Henry left and Batista had a serious look on his face.
Ken Kennedy came out and announced with Tazz and Michael Cole.
Cruiserweight Championship Juventud vs Kid Kash. Juventud was in control most of the match and Kash got his finisher and retained the title.
Kristal interviewed Booker T and Sharmell and asked them if it was tough to be married working for WWE. Booker was interupted by Orlando Jordan. Jordan said he deserves some respect and Booker said he has to earn it like everyone else.Orlando walked off saying he'll remember that.
Best of 7 Series for the U.S Title Randy and Chris fought a good match. Right as the match started Sharmell interfered and Orton made the ref throw her out. The crowd was very into this match especially Benoit. Many of the girls were screaming for Orton. Randy was setting up for the RKO when Orlando Jordan came out of the crowd and hit Benoit with Booker T's crutch. Randy stayed in the ring and was stomping around in frustration. As he was walking to the back a fan said something rude and Randy told him to shut his F-ing mouth.
Simon Dean called out 2 superstars for some competition. Paul London and Brian Kendrick came out and found out that it was a trap because they weren't facing Simon Dean they were facing his new tag team called Gemini. 2 massive guys who are twins. They ended up destroying Kendrick and London.
Steel Cage Match Tag Team Championship The crowd blew the roof off the arena when Batista came out. Rey had a pretty good ovation from the crowd as well. Batista and Rey worked well as a team and were very close to winning when Mark Henry came out and ripped the chain off of the cage door. MNM held Batista as Mark Henry hit him a few times. Henry then ripped the cage door off the cage and sandwiched Batista between the door and the cage wall. Henry then smashed Rey with the door and MNM pinned him for the win.
After MNM left Rey and Batista were in the ring and got a huge ovation from the crowd. Batista found a Eddie Guerrero sign and held it up for the crowd. Rey signed some autographs and Batista kept hugging the girls around ringside. | Promote this thread! | | KaneRobot

And I think Knoble/Scotty is also on Velocity.
SD looks decent, but I don't get the continued burial of Matt Hardy. I mean, I get it in the sense he pissed off Taker, who got all bitchy (big shock!), but the guy should be 1 of the top guys on the show due to his popularity. He kept his heat after getting away from Edge & Lita, proving that wasn't the only reason for his popularity. They'll give the Boogeyman, despite being a joke character, a program w/ JBL, but Hardy's got nothing to do except be fed to JBL in 3 straight matches. | oldschoolhero

AFAIK, Matt Hardy got major heat after what happened at the Survivor Series.

All joking aside, my point still stands. Part of why Taker has a job is that he keeps people from pulling a Shawn Michaels and deciding what they do and don't want to do when they don't have the pull yet.

In what must have been one of the most embarrassing "gimmick malfunctions" since The Shocker, it was obvious that things did not go as planned for Mark Henry breaking into the cage. Apparently Mark Henry was supposed to break the chain, enter the cage and interfere to cost Batista and Rey Mysterio the match. Unfortunately, the cage and/or chain would not give way. Instead Mark Henry did everything possible including hanging from the chain with dead weight for at least 5 minutes before it finally broke. Meanwhile MNM tried to sell their injuries by laying on the mat the entire time. It looked like they had actually gone to sleep and were taking a nap at this point. Apparently, Batista was not allowed to improvise in this situation so he essentially stood in one place for the entire time watching Mark Henry struggle with the chain. I was half expecting him to hand him a set of bolt cutters just to end the agony or light up a cigarette and take a seat while he watched Henry struggle.
When Henry finally did find a way in the cage he "ripped" the cage door off it's hinges and tried to bring it into the ring. I guess it didn't occur to him to tip it perpendicular to the mat so it would slide in. Instead he tried to push it through laying flat and it got stuck. Meanwhile, Batista (who probably wanted to swallow cyanide at this point) once again stood and watched as the weapon which would be used to defeat his team was slooooooowly pushed in the ring.
I didn't see it talked about here or any other sites, so I didn't really pay much attention to it. But this morning, I found this clip, from apparently the satellite feed:

You know, if they just had him come to the ring and pull the chain off, THAT would have been impressive. Instead, he looks like an idiot who can not follow a simple direction interms of which side of the cage to pull.

Some Thoughts: -Gymini is a stupid name, but they look good. I'll hold off judgment until I see them in a match though. At least this way, Simon Dean gets a steady gig as a mouthpiece for them. -Lashley's promo on his Royal Rumble involvement was rather flat and felt like he was reading off a cue card. Still, they're doing a very effective job at making him seem like a big deal. -They're also doing a great job at making MNM seem like a big deal. -Benoit/Orton was very good. -Kash/Juvi was good, but the crowd seemed to not give a damn (and have they been given a reason to do so?).

I think it's because this might somehow lead Batista to a feud with someone other than Goddammed Melina.
Seriously, where were they going with that shit? You know what makes this sexual harassment angle stupid? Melina's not involved with either guy in MNM, so there's no "husband/boyfriend" to defend her honor. The payoff match then has to be Batista vs. Melina for the Laws of Wrestling to work. Without everything building to that match, nothing they're doing with this has any fucking point.
The Royal Rumble Title Match is a throwaway feud. You DON'T want someone talented to go for the title because no one is getting the PPV for that matchup, so you're wasting talent by doing it. That's why Bob Holly a couple years ago was a good idea. Him and Lesnar had enough of a backstory to justify a match, but because this is the one match all year where the challenger's identity doesn't affect the buyrate, why put the next Eddie or Benoit or someone in it and waste their chance to crack the top since no one is paying attention to the match? Put Henry in the feud, have his match come and go, and move on to Wrestlemania.
As bad as it might be, I'll take Batista vs. Mark Henry over Batista vs. Melina any day of the week (but only for a couple days, especially since Melina's the harder worker).

I vaugely remember a 2/3 falls match in WCW that went 2 falls straight, but I couldn't tell you who was in it.
Other thoughts:
-The first few times I saw Bobby Lashley, I thought "If he can promo, he's got the world by the balls." Now that I've heard him speak.....GET HIS ASS A MANAGER, NOW. He sounds like he just got kicked in the balls. Not good for a guy with that look.
-The return of MISTAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH KENNEDY! He did sound like he was tripping all over Cole and Tazz, though.
-Someone please tell me they're not turning OJ face. No one gave 1/10th of one shit about him as a heel, unless he rescues 12 orphaned kids from a burning building, no one's going to give 1/10th of one shit about him as a face.
-Gymini......are these the two poor schmucks that were The Johnsons waaaaaay back in TNA's infancy? Nice to see at least one brand with a tag division.
-What's with the "dusting off matches" trend on both shows? The first 1st Blood match in 8 years, the first steel cage tag title match in 5 years........when's the next flag match? We haven't had one of those for a while.
-KENNEDY. | Destrucity

Lesnar had a pretty incongruous voice, too, though, and he eventually made it work. I think he figured out he'd sound more intimidating if he tried to be all breathy.

The two best candidates for numero uno face team-the Mexicools and Kendrick/London-are barely used, and the heel tag team champions are too busy as part of a pointless feud with the World champ. MNM are just begging for a face turn. They can't be full-on babyfaces, but they've got the swagger, moves, and gimmick to make money as a tweener group like the latter-day Midnight Express. And they can play the underdogs against the big heel teams of the Dicks and Gymini. |
