What did you do to bring in 2006?

In my case, my girlfriend and I cooked dinner, watched a couple of movies, and nearly missed the countdown because of a cork malfunction. All in all, a better year than last year.

Wound up flipping between Dick Clark and South Park. Actually did miss the countdown because I was watching Cartman give Ben Affleck a handjob. First words of 2006: "Oh, shit; happy new year!"

We have a older couple we are good friends with and went over to their house. They had their kids and grandkids over and a couple of other couples. We talked, ate, watched the kids run around, my kids and their kids played Risk.

And at midnight we trashed their house with confetti, those popper things and glitter. Oh, and we checked out Dick Clark, just to see how he was doing, since Richard's (the houseowner) only about 5 years younger than Clark.

Old folks don't party as hard. Then I made fun of the people the cops had pulled over on the way home.

And back up at 6 - time for a typical Sunday

Watched Dick Clark from 11:30 onwards (though with the sound muted when Mariah Carey was on), and just as they were getting ready to light the big "2006" sign below the ball, the cable immediately switched to TNA iMPACT.

The "big announcement that'll shake the very foundations of wrestling" is that Sting is coming? Duh, we knew that three weeks ago. Oh, well.

I went to a huge Portuguese community dinner/dance in Toronto, feeling like I walked into the wrong wedding the whole night. The band came on about 10pm, and who knew that Portuguese music sounded a lot like polka? What's crazier is that I really got into it later in the evening. Seeing a guy rock out on the accordion is one of those images that will stick with me for a while.

Got about 3 hours sleep, then off to the airport, and here I am back in Calgary.

Short timeline:

Friday: Had the day off, got a babysitter, did our once a month bowling league...got a little hammered, went home played Gamecube games with the kids.

Saturday 4:30am - Woke up to my son saying "My tummy hurts..." immediately before he threw up all over me. Whee! Spent 4:30-9am alternating shifts with the Mrs., my son, and a bucket.

As for the event itself, we went ahead with the plans to play Gamecube games and watch movies (Kronk's New Groove & Valiant) all evening. And we deep fried everything we could (Saltines & 7-up for the boy ). We took a break at midnight to toast the New Year and called it a night (except I stayed up until 3:30am playing solo mode Mario Party 7 for my son).

Except for the barf...it wasn't a bad weekend.

Lit some sparkler style fireworks about 10pm for the kids. Otherwise, we didn't do anything different from any other night. Didn't go anywhere. Didn't watch anything special. Does anyone else just not pay attention to the New Year like us?

~NOTE~
I'm always cheesed off when they substitute Holiday Specials for my regular programming. Adult Swim, Toonami, & other shows I watch have been screwed up for the last couple of weeks and I will be glad to return to "the usual suspects". It doesn't have much to do with what I did, but I guess it coulda been what I did if they hadn't changed perfectly good television programming....

I'm surprised to say that this was the first New Years Eve that I spent stone cold SOBER since I turned 21... and it wasn't all THAT bad either.

I was asked what whould be the one thing that would make me NOT want to get shit-faced over the weekend, and after thinking about it for close to half an hour, I came up with the answer of "...spending the weekend in bed and not leaving the room." which was supposed to be a joke, but a certain someone took it for real.

I literally did not leave 'the bed' from the time I got home Friday afternoon until this morning.

...and I'm glad for this.

Yeah -- me. I don't celebrate New Year's any more than I celebrate the odometer in my car turning over.

They had a fireworks display at the sports field a couple of blocks from our house, so we watched that from our back window. Then we spent the rest of the night trying to coax the cat out from under the bed.

I got drunk in a bar. The hangover has just about settled down.

At midnight we had just ordered a bunch of wings so we held them up and had a buffalo flavored toast to the new year.

My girlfriend dominated a chugging contest like a champ and won a free t-shirt.

Ditto. Stayed at home, watched some episodes from the 5th Season of Seinfeld, worked on my NFL salary cap spreadsheet a little bit, and then went to sleep at 11:30.

Went to a party with people from work and drank too much. We ended up playing Sorry Revenge and Disney Scene-it and endured the worst Apple Martinis you have never tasted. We all got sick off it, and I got it the worst, puking only 10 minutes after downing the rest of the horrible concoction.

My stomach and chest didn't get over the totality of it all until just a bit ago.

I now wish my NYE had been as mundane as some of you guys' were.

Had some relatives over (my in-laws and my daughter's Godparents), opened some gifts with/for the girls, ate a ton of food, and watched Dick Clark from 11:50 on. Celebrated midnight with sparkling grape juice. Passed out at about 12:30 'cause of earlier sleep deprivation. A good night, 'cause in the morning the girls didn't care about a party the night before, and we were able to keep up with them.

Overall weekend-wise, the Cavs beat Detroit, OSU beat LSU, the Browns beat Baltimore, Savage stayed and Collins left (WHOO-HOO!), OSU beat Notre Dame, and I won the CRZ Invitational League in Fantasy Football. This has to be damn near one of the best sport weekends I've experienced in some time.

New Years in probably my favorite holiday.

Went to San Francisco with some friends. We had dinner at a Chinese restaurant, and went to a club to ring in the New Year. Danced, drank, and danced some more.

My wife and I watched movies. We bought some frozen pizzas, Peppridge Farms cake and some sparkling grape juice. We switched over to Regis at 11:55, watched the ball drop, said a prayer, toasted in the New Year and sent our girls to bed. My wife and I finished watching movies and went to bed.

I, for the first time, got plastered on Smirnoff Watermelon flavored Vodka and laid in the, at my cousins house, family room laughing at everything and everyone. Mind you that was only about five people.
