ATLANTA, Dec. 7 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- The Coca-Cola Company today announced that it will launch Coca-Cola Blak in January in France, the first of several countries -- including the United States -- that are expected to introduce the new cola-coffee beverage in 2006.

Coca-Cola Blak is an invigorating and stimulating blend that has a perfect balance of the effervescent taste sensation of Coca-Cola and natural flavors, with real coffee. The lightly carbonated, mid-calorie beverage, which is designed to appeal to adult consumers, is yet another example how The Coca-Cola Company reaches out to new audiences and addresses new beverage occasions.

"Coca-Cola Blak is not just a flavor extension. It is a blend of unique Coke refreshment with the true essence of coffee and has a rich smooth texture and has a coffee-like froth when poured. We believe we have created a new category of soft drink -- an adult product in a carbonated beverage -- and a whole new drinking experience. This brand is ideal for any part of the day when people are looking for renewed energy or simply to take a break," said Marc Mathieu, vice president, Global Core Brands, The Coca-Cola Company.

The launch will be supported by television, print, outdoor and in-store communication. Global advertising and creative for the brand is currently under development.

About The Coca-Cola Company

(EDIT: If any mod wants to fix the title spelling ("BLAK" instead of "BLACK", that'd be swell...)

Somehow, I'm not convinced this product will be a big hit in France. People in France can be very particular about their food and drink. Why drink coffee-flavoured cola when you can have an outstanding espresso in just about every cafe?

I think you underestimate not only the addiction to Coke (or other sodas) that many people have, but also the brand recognition Coca-Cola enjoys.

Out of context quoting is fun. There's some truth behind this, though. Coca Cola Coffee Flavor? Come on. You GOTTA be on Coke to drink this Coke.

I was udner the impression (and since I'm drinking a Coke slurpee right now, hee, I can pretty well tell) that Coke is already black. They couldn't have found some kinda other name for this thing?

I'd sure like it if they stopped adding lemon and lime and coffee to Coke and just gave me back my Vanilla Coke.

But I could see how this Coke Black could be incredibly addictive. I'm not gonna try it and find out.

Sometime in the late 90's I had a soda called... Big Head Cola. It was coffee-flavored soda. It also had an amazing amount of caffeine. I remember it tasting like Coca-cola with coffee in it. I was addicted to it, and I don't like Coca-Cola or Coffee, but together it was amazing.

I'll try this stuff when it comes out, as I have wanted to have more coffee-soda, and haven't found any.

Give it back to you? Where did it go? I see it at the grocery store every week.

As for coffee-flavored soda, anybody ever try Jolt? I swear that stuff tastes like cold, kinda flat coffee. Has about as much caffeine too, if I remember correctly.

First thought I had when seeing this: "Coca Cola Blech"

Not to start a fight, but I actually would be surprised that Coke would be *that popular in France, given the Franco-American relationship (see: EuroDisney). Or possibly that's more of their politicians demagoging American symbols, as ours do with "Freedom Fries" and such from time to time.

Back to the product, I have a four-can-a-day coke habit, but that's my caffeine source. Never got around to liking coffee.

They're discontinuing the brand at the end of the year.

I meant people who tried the new product will probably get addicted to it just as easily as people get addicted to any other soda.

Really? I never see it anywhere. Maybe it just got taken off in some markets.

I can't help but think of Max Barry's Jennifer Government, where they were trying to market a similar drink called "Phukk." Anyone else read that?

Oh, man...I can't wait to try that stuff out! I only hope that it's released in normal sized cans, not those mini Red Bull-esque ones.

I wonder when the Canadian release is. Hmmmm....

Umm...are you that lazy you paid for Vanilla Coke when it's been around long before they put it in Coke. Simple...go to the store buy some Vanilla syrup and pour some into your Coke.

I was buggin' about Vanilla Coke being gone, but I happened to stop into a 7-11 to get some caffeine for my long drive on Christmas morning, and they have syrup flavors next to the soda fountain. So, presto, vanilla coke the real way. VERY nice. They also have banana (seems an odd choice to me), lime, and chocolate. Hmmm...chocolate root beer might be nice.

I'm told this is common at 7-11s now and started recently. Good idea from them.

Chocolate flavoring tastes like Tootsie Rolls so if you like those, you'll love the flavoring.

I, for one, love the flavoring.

Not to pick nits, but that's Maxx Barry's Syrup, where they marketed a drink called Fukk. (The author went by Max Barry for Jennifer Government). Both are awesome books.
