I guess this is the place for this question. My sister was having a problem with the apostrophe key Everytime she types the apostrophe key while on the internet (she uses Firefox) it opens the search window at the bottom of the page. Since I know a more about computers than her she asked me if I knew what was causing it to do that. I didn't know, but I figured it was kind of combo of the Alt, CTRL, keys or something like that. So after trying different combinations I actually got my computer to do the same thing. Problem is, I don't know what I did to make the search open when you hit apostrophe so I don't know how to undo it. Anybody know the problem?

Are you sure this is abnormal? The search box opens for me when I hit the apostrophe key too. I've always thought it was a built in feature on Firefox. Of course, if I'm typing in a search box (or on the W), then it doesn't turn on. It's just a quicker way of typing CTRL-F.

It is normal for the Find to open when you hit the apostrophe when you are reading text or something, but when you are typing like on a message board or sending mail the apostrophe key should type the apostrophe, otherwise you can never use any apostrophes.

Firefox always opens the search bar for me if I hit any key without putting my cursor on a text box first.

For example, if I'm on CNN.com reading something & I accidentally hit any of the letters or numbers on my keyboard, it opens up the search bar & allows me to finish typing whatever word Firefex thinks I'm looking for.

I always thought that was an intentional feature.

Actually, on Firefox CTRL-G works to the same purpose,
for some reason.

Guess they wanted to make sure you could search a page?
