And the first dropout is in: Mika Kiprusoff will take the Olympic break off to rest a sore hip, according to TSN.

(Odd choice for a first post in 3+ years, no?)

I'm a little surprised by some of the choices on the American team - I'd have selected Leetch over either Chelios or Hatcher, myself, and I sure would have found a way to get Roenick on the team. Say what you want about Roenick, but when the pressure is on, he's money in the bank.

I would have like to see Miller from the Sabres get in as the third goaltender, too. I think he's at least as good as the three named, and getting him some experience now would be valuable for future international competitions.

Kiprusoff withdrawing will hurt Finland's chances for sure - it's too bad, because they were a very entertaining in the World Cup. Hopefully they can still contend for a medal.

It's odd to see Axelsson referred to by his real name, not the "Americanized name."

My favorite of those is still "Vinnie" Prospal.

The non-NHL teams (Italy & Kazakhstan especially) I cut & pasted.
