I'm not sure Edzo was entirely the problem here, but it was obvious that the team wasn't listening. After getting defeated 3-0 by St. Louis, something had to be done. Therrien has done an excellent job with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the AHL lately, so hopefully he can salvage this season somehow. I don't think the playoffs are a possibility, but starting to put forth some respectable performances and not giving up 40+ shots every night would be a start... | Promote this thread! | | JustinShapiro

| #4 Posted on 16.12.05 1533.44 Reposted on: 16.12.12 1534.08 | I usually think that Bill Waters should be committed, but he made a really good point the other night on Sportsnet News. He said that Mario was a big problem with why the team wasn't living up to expectations because of the way he's treated Crosby. Crosby's been treated like a God enough already in his career, but having Mario bring him into his home, parade him around as "The Next Me" and shit like that have only given this *kid* a helluva bigger ego than he had before.
News hit's of Eddie being fired, and everyone says it's too bad, that things weren't going right but it's sad to see him go, that sort of thing, but when Crosby's turn to say something comes up, he basically said that it's about time that they did something to try to improve the team because Olczyk wasn't cutting it. I'm not 100% sure, but I think the quote "it's about time" was used.
Waters said Crosby's become the "chirpiest" player in the league who thinks he can say anything to anyone (have you guys caught the looks his teammates give him when he starts telling them how to play in the corners to help him out?) and after seeing his interviews last night I have to unfortunately agree. The kid's young, but he's been trained how to act in front of a camera when situations come up, so the fact that he has no problem coming off like an asshole when he's still one ankle injury away from 3rd Line 4 Life tells me he's gotten too comfortable already.
ps. I just don't like Crosby. It wasn't bad before, but Don Cherry's right. I'm worried what his attitude will be like in 5-6 years if he keeps getting his ass kissed by everyone in hockey that he meets.

The comparison up until now has been to Gretzky and how well the Great One always dealt with the press; that is to say, humbly. And when Crosby started in Pittsburgh, things seemed to be going well. Now all I hear about is the attitude he's copping.
Frankly, I think it's Lemieux. Mario has never been the role model and ambassador that Gretzky was; despite his incredible talent, it always seemed to be more about Mario than the team or the sport. Now I'm wishing Crosby had gone to Phoenix, not Pittsburgh.
There's no doubt in my mind that hockey-wise, Crosby's the real thing. But I'd rather see him become another Gretzky than another Lemieux. | JustinShapiro

Lemieux is/was a born leader with 2 Stanley Cup rings and an Olympic Gold Medal.
Right now, Crosby doesn't seem to be any of those things. | Mr. Heat Miser

Well, to be fair, he's an eighteen-year old. Mario didn't have any Stanley Cups or medals when he was eighteen, either.
Shapiro was specifically talking about a comparison "when his career is over"
Realistically, we need to wait and see. People change alot in their late teens/early twenties. No one knows what Crosby is going to be, and no one will until some time passes. | | ALL ORIGINAL POSTS IN THIS THREAD ARE NOW AVAILABLE |
