Four Vikings charged

5 EYEWITNESS NEWS has just learned that four high-profile Vikings have been charged with misdemeanor counts related to the Vikings boat party scandal this past fall.

Fred Smoot, Daunte Culpepper, Moe Williams, and Bryant McKinnie have been charged with indecent exposure, a law enforcement source tells 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS. They could face up to 90 days in jail.
The Hennepin County Sherrif's Office is scheduled to have a news conference regarding the scandal at 1:30 p.m.

Steven Tallen, the prosecutor for the Lake Minnetonka Conservation District, received the case last month after Hennepin County declined to pursue felony charges.

An attorney for Al and Alma's Charter Boats said employees witnessed players participating in lewd behavior.

U.S. Attorney Tom Heffelfinger said that no federal charges will be brought against any players. Boat crew members alleged that women were paid to come to Minnesota from other states for the party.

Yeah, like they'll get any jail time. Were they wrong? hell yeah. If they weren't Vikings, would this have made the airwaves? Hell no. Next time you want to charter a boat Smoot, go a couple of states away and don't tell people who you are, dumbass.

As a Kentucky fan, I'm disappointed about Moe Williams being implicated, but with some of the stories that popped up after he left, I'm not all that surprised (specifically, his girlfriend accused him of physical abuse).

Maybe some of what was wrong with Daunte before his injury had to do with a lot being on his mind?

I heard last night that Daunte told his wife that night that he was going to a charity function for children's cancer. Whoops!

For all the hubub in the media, honestly the most these guys are going to get is a $500 fine each and that's it.

A reminder from about.com -
2002 - Moss was arrested after an incident in downtown Minneapolis in which he bumped a traffic control officer with his car, knocking her to the ground. He was ordered to pay a $1,200 fine and perform 40 hours of community service. Marijuana was allegedly found in his vehicle as well, but charges were later dropped.

Just in case anyone thought they might serve any jail time...

I bet their mothers are so proud. Guys, if you can't control yourselves, do us all a favor and STAY HOME!

One thing about that Moss/traffic cop story that never made the mainstream press (but they talk about on sports radio around here) is that about a year after that incident, it came out that this female office was a known "iron nazi" kind of cop, pushing people into incidents, and when she saw it was Moss in the car, did everything she could to antagonize him, to the point where some speculated if she actually had brushed herself against his car and said he did it himself. IIRC, i think she was relived of duty over a few other incidents such as this.

If only Moss had ended up traded to a team that wasn't starting Kerry Collins at QB, he could've ended up laughing over the Vikings whole season.
