They can barely put together coherent Smackdown and RAWs. Correct me if I'm wrong, but this is just for specials, not weeklies? Promote this thread! | | Matt Tracker

| #5 Posted on 1.12.05 1734.26 Reposted on: 1.12.12 1736.37 | They better use the same logo and "Obsession" theme song as the old school SNME. Back in the day, this show was awesome and as a kid, I was pumped to stay up late to watch wrestling. But really, with RAW and Smackdown shows on ever week, this show loses some of its luster. Back in the day when the weekly shows had 99% squash matches and there was only 4 or so PPVs a year, SNME had a feel of importance. They have PPV every months, and some RAW or Smackdown main events can be PPV quality, so whats the appeal to a show like this now?
Still, this is gonna be awesome. I am somewhat excited. | Jim Smith

Then again, Spike might retreat and schedule one of TNA's Thursday prime-time specials for that week.
WWE will need to be careful with this. One reason TNA isn't a threat is because people aren't watching wrestling at all on a Saturday night. Once SNME brings the audience to the timeslot, some of them could discover Impact while channel-surfing during commercials or retarded skits. The first 30 minutes of SNME need to be nothing but PPV-quality wrestling, like the SNME of old. | Reverend J Shaft

And I want Don Pardo to announce the pre-emption of SNL just before it comes on. I always imagined my non-wrestling-fan friends tuning in to see SNL just to hear Pardo say "And now stay tuned for Saturday Night's Main Event" and laughing hysterically at how pissed they were to see SNL wasn't on.
Also, they HAVE to have those interviews where each wrestler had his logo in the background and recited some scripted interview while that cool techno beat played. This is NON-NEGOTIABLE. | britishiles

NBC IS doing business with them already (they own USA network). Obviously, they do what makes sense from a business aspect and if putting Wrestling on the big network on a Saturday Night instead of a SNL repeat could tick the ratings on Monday night up a half point, then it would be money in the bank (apologies to Edge).

Absolutely!!!!! Heck, they could re-run the whole show from the 80's in that timeslot and I'd be happy. Maybe they could have SNL's Tina Fey and Amy Poehler break-in and do the "fake news" at 12 still to appease those fans-it's the only funny part of the show for me.
SNME without Randy Savage would be weird. He was Mr. Saturday Night. I really liked the two Friday Night "Main Event" shows that NBC ran-- they really set up Wrestelmania quite nicely. | Jim Smith

Also, there's a world of difference between NBC getting WWE to produce a wrestling show for late night filler and NBC getting WWE to produce football games for prime-time. Just because the XFL flopped doesn't mean SNME has the stench of failure.
Actually, why did NBC drop SNME in the first place? It moved to Fox for a cup of coffee in 1992 before dropping off the map altogether. Was it the Slaughter/Gulf War controversy or steroid scandal? | DJ FrostyFreeze

Or they could have interviews with wrestlers in that fake locker room with the punk/purple lockers. Either that, or have the backhround with the bigass curtains. And Mean Gene better be doing the interviews. | ALL ORIGINAL POSTS IN THIS THREAD ARE NOW AVAILABLE |
