It's a little over a month until Christmas, and this is probably the first time in almost a decade that I'm excited about the season...because I'm heading to Utah to see my mom and step-dad for two weeks, and then heading to see my brother and his fiancee in Vancouver for New Years.

I haven't spent Christmas with family in almost a decade, so that'll be something of beauty.

So, to the people here, if you've made plans already, what will they be? If not, what do you want to do?

My family and I will spend Christmas Eve with my dad, then stay home all day for Christmas.

As long as my kids are little, I'll always spend Christmas day at home.....mostly because when I was a kid, I absolutely hated always having to leave all of my just opened new toys so that my family and I could spend all day at a relatives house.

Midnight church service, gifts to friends along with extravagant sweets, watch Christmas Story on TBS a few times. Sleep a little, feed the horses, then open gifts. Call the families back East followed by a nice meal with the three of us.
Mostly spend the day doing as little as possible with my famil and appreciate the meaning of Christmas.

Because I'm an idiot, I spent too much money on a plane ticket back East to Toronto so that people I left a couple of years ago can dominate my time and ensure that I return to Calgary more tired than before I went on "vacation".

I will hopefully kill 30 birds with one stone and have a party at The Maddy sometime between Boxing Day and New Year's Eve.

On the plus side, my Dad called in a favour and I'm going to the Leafs/Devils game on Boxing Day.

Ghibli Museum.

Akihabara.

Nagoya mostly.

Everyone else cancelled. New plans? Whiskey.

I have to work at least half a day and stick around if anyone calls-in. Can't imagine why anyone would want to call in sick for Christmas. Looks like I'll be there the whole day, so my wife and I are opening gifts way early in the morning.

We'll spend some time with my girlfriend's family, then my family, then a few days in beautiful Montreal for just the two of us.

Exactly correct. When we had one and then two kids, we would truck them all over the place on Christmas Day. Since we had number three, Christmas Day is spent entirely at home in our jammies. Church on Christmas Eve, homemade cinnamon buns on Christmas morn, lounging around watching "A Christmas Story" all day long.

Should we be there at 8 or 9?

We'll be having our now-traditional Christmas morning presents-opening, followed by a stop at Starbucks for egg nog lattes and chocolate milk, followed by the sure-to-be-three-plus-hour drive down to Oregon to see the family. IJ did well last year leaving her brand-new talking kitchen behind for the weekend, so she should be OK this year seeing as her big gift is going to be a bed.

I'm going to go down to Chinatown and hop the free buses they run to the casino boats and spend the day playing some low-limit poker since my family has decided not to do anything this year for Xmas.

We've always celebrated on the night of Christmas Eve, which is some sort of Scandinavian thing. That's when we have the family gathering (which this year will be just me, my wife, my mom, and my younger brother) and open presents and stuff.

Christmas morning we get stockings with a few more little presents, and then my wife and I will spend the rest of the day taking it easy.

No one will wear a crown of candles, unfortunately.

We never actually did any St. Lucia activities, so the decorations and whatever-ephemera-stuff that kicked around always just sort of fell under the general heading of "Holiday Season."

These relpies are interesting. At 6 p.m. Christmas Eve, everthing except a gas station or two is closed. On Christmas Day, a few gas stations (Quik Marts) open around ten. Other than that nothing resumes until midnight Christmas. It is quite neat to be on the road of KS and absolutely no trucks for 24 hours. Just curious if that is the case where you all live? Seems even Christmas is starting to get busy elsewhere.

My father-in-law passed away last December on the 28th, so my mother-in-law, brother-in-law, and wife don't wanna celebrate Christmas this year. In fact they are going on vacation the 20th through the 29th. I don't have vacation time available so I will be staying home.

Christmas Eve day sleep in late. Probably go to my sister's to see my neice and nephews.

Christmas Eve night at church for Christmas Eve Vespers

Christmas Day at church for 10am service

The rest of the day is up in the air. Probably hang out and watch football. Gotta be back at work 7:30 am on Monday the 26th.

MRS and I have Christmas Eve to ourselves. Christmas day we'll go to my parents' house early (after meeting them at church) and to her parents' house that evening.

I always take the week between Christmas and New Year as vacation, probably won't go anywhere. My true hope is that I can channel "Office Space" and say "I did nothing and it was everything I thought it could be."

For the last two years, the parents have flown over from San Diego to our freezing tundra of South New Jersey. This year, we are thankfully flip-flopping. My sister, brother-in-law and I are hopping on a plane on Dec 22'nd and staying in California until the 27'th. It will be nice not to be shovelling snow on Christmas day for once.
