I'm having serious difficulty getting the C-Stick to work the way it's supposed to. When I start a game C-Left and C-Right work all right, but you can forget about C-Up, and C-Down ain't easy, either. I've tried resetting the controller by holding X, Y and Start for three seconds, I've tried resetting the console, I've tried another controller... no success. Pretty damn frustrating especially when playing a Zelda game.

Any suggestions?

Is there resistance when you move the stick - does it feel like there could be something in the inner workings like sand, crumbs, etc stopping it from moving correctly?

The C-stick is analog, so the odds are that it is a physical obstruction rather than a dirty contact on the underside like you might see with a D pad problem.

I haven't taken one apart yet, and the last Dreamcast controller I took apart I couldn't get back together.

The controller doesn't prevent me from moving the C-stick into a C-Left or C-Right position... it's just that the console, half the time, won't recognize that it's in that position.

It doesn't feel as if there's a physical obstruction, no.
