If you look at it Christian's place on the card the past few years can pretty much be considered the same as where Scott Hall was prior to his jump to WCW in '96: mid to upper mid card, could hold the IC or tag title, but not considered a viable world title contender. If he is the first wave as Hall was to Nash for Benoit or Jericho, this could be the beginning of a good move for TNA. If he comes in with no one to follow, then there is a good chance that it is a momentary gain for TNA, but probably no long term boost.

I have a question. We know Christian is attempting to patent "Christian Cage" as his ring name. His theme music is not WWE house produced, it's a Waterproof Blonde track. Would he be able to use that theme music in TNA if the band okayed it? Or would the WWE still have a legal way to prevent it, even though they don't own the music? If he could come in to TNA with all his packaging intact, I think that could be the biggest thing about the whole situation.

The version WWE Used as their own mix (the into was WWE-Made, as well as the loop they used)

The song was also on a WWE-Produced album with other WWE Themes, so WWE may have a case.

Christian deserves a lot of credit. Most talented WWE wrestlers have to water down their style and accept whatever stupid angle or gimmick that gets handed them. Even with the pay cuts, Vince is still writing the biggest checks and it takes some balls to not sell out. We can all bitch and moan about the state of wrestling today but, as in any field, things won't improve until more guys start caring more about their craft and not just the pay.

The only way that things will get better is if more guys join him. There can be competition again but it will take a sacrifice from some in order to do it. If that happens, I hope Christian will be remembered for what he is doing now.

Jackson, that is a very, very good point. A few more misuses like this, a few more signings by TNA, and Christian will be forever known as a trail blazer in many ways.

In any event, Christian's signing means I'm gonna finally go out of my way to watch TNA every week.

Thirdeded.

Honestly, I can't think of any one in TNA who can cut a promo like Christian can give them. Raven can be interesting, but he's regulated to being thrown off the show every week.

But Christian has the great hell cockiness that almost makes him a face. When I think of his feud with Cena, WWE so should of prolonged that. Cena was getting some boos and Christian was getting some cheers.

I think that what TNA is missing is someone with a character, someone who can talk. Jarret is SO boring on the mic and I'm not really a JJ hater. TNA has a bunch of guys who can "wrestle good" but no character. Or guys with character (3LK,Kip) who don't wrestle as good. The casual audience needs someone to be able to connect with, something to identify to draw interest.

A guy like Samoa Joe is able to convey that just through his size and demeanor. But a lot of the X-Division guys are just guys who wrestle good. Sabin, Bentley, Williams, Aries don't really have much to them.

You have a point, but it should be noted that Hall (as you said) had Nash to come in with. We still don't have anything but pure speculation to suggest that Benoit will leave WWE and sign with TNA. Also, and more importantly, Hall and nash came in with what was at the time the hottest and most well-booked storyline (the nWo invasion) people had seen in years.

So yes, if they have something that new, fresh, and groundbreaking for Christian to debut with TNA might be onto something huge with his signing. That's a big "if" though.

I think Christian's jump sets a good example for guys like Samoa Joe who are just coming up. A lot of young guys in TNA might be waiting for their chance to get over enough that WWE will make them an offer, but Christian's move might show them that it's better to be your own man in TNA than a misused curtain jerker working for Vince.

You just answered your own question...or explained why...well you get my grift.

If you don't cheer who Vinnie Mac wants you to cheer, he will change the parts until you cheer they right guy.

Seriously, name one WWE wrestler that the fans were dying to cheer and did so, until his character was changed.

Other than Stone Cold.

Rock and Undertaker come to mind. Let's throw in Hollywood Hogan too at WrestleMania.

Althought I think no heel-to-face turn ever got the reaction that Nikita Koloff's did.

Eddie Guerrero comes to mind as someone people demanded to cheer for.

The thing with Christian is that maybe he isn't as well known as the Dudleyz, but he was on WWE tv 3 weeks or so before he appears on TNA's show. He might have lost most of his matches this year but 4 months ago people were cheering him on like crazy OR booing him out of the building, because he was so hated. That's what they will remember. Not him jobbing to Rey.
He had huge heat. He will be able to work with that and claim those people "up north" have no idea how to handle someone as hot as him, etc etc..He could really heel it up and still be cheered. Claim to be Mr. TNA etc etc and get some great feuds right away.

I'm actually really glad to be finally getting a DVR just in time to have it start taping Impact.

Also: To anyone who doubts the impact (no pun intended) that Christian is going to make, just imagine seeing Christian on a TNA show. It is going to be a lot weirder and more impressive than people are giving it credit for.

Think also of the casual fan, who doesn't read the internet for wrestling news, and doesn't know Christian's officially gone. Think of them flipping through the channels on a Saturday night and seeing him on TNA. That alone is a reason why this is huge for them. They might also be surprised by the Dudleyz -- oh sorry, "Team 3D" -- but those guys, as people have said, have been off TV for a while.

I give him about as much chance as D-Lo Brown, X-Pac, and Brian Christopher.

Look at Christian's style. He has two distinct moves: the reverse DDT backbreaker and the Unprettier. The rest of his repertoire is pretty standard. He doesn't have what could be considered customized transitions or rallying gestures. His mouth has got him the attention, and he's earned it.

But he's moving to an organization that's trying to make a name for itself with strong ring workers. That's why I begrudge Jarrett's title reign; he's the least impressive wrestler in the main event. When did Christian ever bust out the "holy shit" moves in a singles match? When did he work up chants based on what he did in the ring? Why should I get excited that TNA is bringing in a nondescript singles wrestler who talks really well?

I'm clearly in the minority here. I like his character, but I don't see him creating momentum based on anything except the fact he's the latest guy screwed by Vince, and the hype suggests he's gonna stroll right past guys like Shark Boy and Samoa Joe who do less talking and more eye-popping moves.

I gotta wonder, is it more insulting to be compared favorably to Brian Christopher or unfavorably to Shark Boy?

Well, Matt Tracker, allow me to titillate you.

Because TNA has no good talkers and barely anyone with a personality, and they can't live on bread alone. Because he's a better wrestler than you're giving him credit for, and it's not like he didn't have really strong matches with a great worker like Chris Jericho and a jumptacular athlete like Shelton Benjamin (find the equivocal TNA counterparts). And because you don't know what kind of restrictions WWE put on his all-important MOVES.

The Dudleys had some non-in-house song as their entrance music for most of 2003-2004--their TNA theme is a pretty obvious knockoff of it. So either TNA couldn't get the song or didn't want to pay for it. I'm sure the same will apply to Christian.

I figure that when WWE arranges to use a song as entrance music--when they get Alter Bridge to let Edge use "Metalingus" and when they get Limp Bizkit to let Undertaker use "Rollin'"--there must be a clause in the contract saying those artists can't license the songs to any other wrestling promotion. Otherwise you know Turner would have paid Rick Derringer a fortune to use "Real American" when Hogan was in WCW.

TNA's entrance music is so remarkably indistinctive for the most part and given such a low priority in the audio mix (behind the announcers and the crowd mics) that it really doesn't matter anyway most of the time.

OK...I stand corrected, to a point.

In the midst of a feud, the heel gets cheered and the face gets booed. Vinnie Mac puts the kibosh on that feud pretty quick.

Heels that get cheered week in and week out is a different story. I remember when they brought in Honky Tonk Man, they were putting him out as a face but the fans hated him so they turned him. Same goes for Rocky Maivia.
