Reposted on: 31.10.12 1718.56 | WHDH Channel 7, New England Cable News and the Boston Herald have all reported that Theo Epstein has decided not to accept a new contract from the Red Sox and is resigning immediately. His current contract expires at midnight tonight. Sports radio station WEEI 850AM read a release on air from the club that Theo was leaving.
Given the fact that assistant GM Josh Byrnes left to be take the top job in Arizona, this leaves the Red Sox looking for someone to run the show and it would seem certain to have to come from outside the organization now.
Hard to swallow that the Sox would come this close to having a deal done (it was reported on Friday that no announcement would be made until today, but most sources expected a deal to be signed) and then let it all go to hell.
